I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and I would like to know a way to know what applications are asking you to enter password for default keyring to unlock. In the past that dialog used to appear at startup once but now appears twice and I would like to know which applications are asking me for the password. Is there any log where I can see it?
View 4 RepliesI have installed Fedora11 onto my Dell laptop; as nice as it is whenever I log in I am prompted to "enter password for default keyring to unlock". Now, I don't recall ever setting one up, each password I try (e.g. the user or root) fails and gives me the prompt again. After a few clicks of "deny" it does go away but I want to know what it is and if I can stop it from prompting me).
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe only problem I am experiencing is that when I boot Ubuntu quickly finds my wireless network but does not automatically connect to it. A window then comes up asking me to "enter password for Keyring default". After having then entered this password the connection does take place and remain stable. So really no big deal but why do I need to do this every time I boot up. This is new to me. Never had anything like this on previous versions.

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.
I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).

Then I can Deny or OK it. How can I disable that and keep it from popping up. Also, it there a way to figure out/change the administrator password if you don't remember it as well?
Whenever I restart my computer, it asks me to retype the keyring password for Network Manager. Is there a way to get rid of this or set it permanently?

Longer story:
Somehow I got my keyring and login passwords out of sync. I went to change my login password using passwd on the terminal. I meant to change it to (let's say) "abcdef" but typed "abcdfe" twice. Realizing my mistake I tried to used passwd a second time to change it to "abcdef", but passwd complained that the new password was too similar to the old. So I used "su -c 'passwd myusername'" - I was able to change my login password but I guess this did not update my keyring password. I've tried changing my password using passwd as myself (not root) to something completelydifferent, but my keyring password remains the first password (e.g. "abcdfe").
I installed opensuse yesterday, but I don't remember the keyring password, and even if I know the WEP key by heart, it's boring to retype it. How can I reset the default password? I tried Keyring menu, dell all keyrings and created a new call "default", but it stills asking me the password, that is different that the new.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just re-sized my windows partition on my laptop and installed 10.04.1. Brand new clean install. I set up my user account, gave it a password, and everything was fine until I tried to connect to my wireless. I typed in the security key for my wireless, and it asked for a password to unlock the default keyring. The problem is, I never set a password for the "default" keyring. I never changed my user password. I didn't auto-login, I entered my password. This was the first boot up of the machine after installing 10.04.1. I can't use Empathy, because the keyring cannot be unlocked. If I "cancel" it gives me an error saying the account details are wrong, but I log into my facebook, aim, and msn every day, so I know the passwords are correct.
I have read about other issues with the keyring and with the auto-login bug that is associated with it. I have also read up on the bug that occurs with that as well. I couldn't find anything about my specific situation, so I hope this isn't a re-post of an issue that has already dealt with, but I did look it up. If it helps, the laptop I am running is a HP Pavilion dv7-3065dx, and I have Ubuntu Desktop 10.04.1 x86 installed. Clean install and the only thing I have done was log in, connect to network, and try to set up Empathy. Both Empathy, and connecting to network, gave me the issues with the keyring. It appears that there is already a password for the default keyring, it is not blank, and my user login password does not work for it. I'm at a loss...
I managed to install the ubuntu One app on my desktop machine and it was working really well, but then it stopped working, when I forgot my password to the default keyring. How do I go about resetting the password to my keyring? Is this possible?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just did a fresh install of 10.10 and whenever I log on it request the password for default keyring (the same as sign in password) in previous versions of ubuntu it never asked and automatically started the wireless; now it asks and tells me the password is incorrect. I can hit cancel a numerous amount of times and it will eventually allow me to connect, but that doesn't seem like a good fix in my opinion. This also happened when I tried out lubuntu 10.04 which I promptly removed due to the menu style.

Well the password I set before the install doesn't work, it gives me an authentication failure. I thought that since it was inside windows it didn't set me as a root user. I go to user groups and I see my name there and then "root" above it, but its grayed out. Is there a default root password I can enter?

I want to store my svn password in the gnome-keyring so it is encrypted and 'secure'. I made the necessary changes to ~/.subversion/config, but even after running a few svn commands, I do not see an entry for SVN in the keyring.

I usually connect to wireless network. The connection is automatic so whenever the connection goes down, it is automatically restored.
But sometimes, the connection goes down, nm-applet asks me to enter the password and will not proceed until I have entered the password. I have observed that this usually happens when the request to connect takes a long time or the wifi router does not respond immediately.
Is there way to change this behaviour? I want nm-applet to keep trying until its connected and not ask me for a password. This way I can be sure that my laptop is always connected and does not need my intervention.

Every time I need root privileges and I am asked to authenticate (i.e. Update Manager, mounting a partition, etc), the password window comes up, shakes and immediately closes, leaving me with no chance to enter a password.
