My Cursor is the size I prefer when using firefox, or Epiphany but when I hover program menu options the size gets larger. Other programs like Inscape always have a larger size cursor and the desktop has the big cursor.
I just made the upgrade to the LTS version, I use compiz.
Seems I'm missing some default value but cannot find one that applies system wide?
I have been trying for quite some days to change the size and theme of the cursor . I was expecting that there be something in preferences in GNOME v2 but is not there (Is there some enhancement there in GNOME v3?) Anyways, after googling quite a bit, I came across a tip to change the the cursor theme. sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme The thing to do here is choose some alternative theme and logout and login back.

Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit installed in laptop hp compaq 6720s, gnome desktop. Personalized inverted theme with cursor whiteglass bigger size. Everything okay in apps except in kde apps I have installed as k3b, ktorrent, when I pass pointer over their windows, the size of cursor is not the bigger but the normal one. Can I do something to fix it?. I used tips in this thread [URL] to make kde apps look like gnome ones.

For instance, assign a given button the Forward or Back function when the cursor is on a browser, but assign a scroll-left or scroll-right to the same button when it's on a spreadsheet. Is there any way to accomplish this, say, in a script that I could run at startup as a background process?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just started the latest Ubuntu and like Unity a lot but I have a question about the application launcher.I have added a few applications to this launcher but the problem is it now takes up more than the screen. It seems if I scroll through it I can have it scroll down to use more applications.What I'd like to do is either make the application icons smaller so that they can all fit on the screen without me having to scroll or either make it wider so that there can be two vertical rows of application icons.Are there any options to do this or make any other changes to the application launcher?

View 14 Replies View RelatedIm running netbook remix on a eeepc 1005ha. It is my only OS and Im loving it except for one obnoxious quirk. It randomly cuts text and randomly pastes it. If there is something in the clipboard, it will usually paste that, but just as often it will cut random text and paste that. The pastes occur when the cursor focus jumps back to the location of the cursor on the screen. I dont know a better way to phrase that, but thats what it is doing. Say... I put the cursor over the word "pastes" in the paragraph above... even though Im typing in this paragraph, the focus will "jump" to the cursors physical locale (the word "pastes") and then paste whatever is in the clipboard. If the cursor is outside of the textbox, the page will jump to the bottom.
This behavior occurs across programs and in any place text can be entered. I can find no rhyme or reason for it... it just... happens. Sometimes even when Im away from my computer, so its not like Im hitting some key on accident. I have loved everything about this ubuntu distro, but this issue is just toany obnoxious. Writing psych papers on this thing is going to be near impossible if I dont get this fixed before I go back to school.
Am running Ubuntu NBR as the sole OS on my Dell Mini 9. Switched over in March to 9.10 NBR. Everything worked fine.Upgraded to 10.04 when it was released. It's awesome EXCEPT for this busy cursor thing.As soon as I log in, all the time my cursor is the spinning wheel of busyness.... It works just as a normal cursor would - my computer also does not seem to be slower due to any operations.If I open an application, the cursor will behave as usual within the window but if I more my cursor to the title bar or switch out of the application, the "busy cursor" resumes.
View 9 Replies View Relateda client brought in an 160GB external HDD and wanted to get the files off it, there appeared to be no partitions on the disk but i thought it may have been formatted to use the whole disk. I tried to mount it as the various FS types the client thought it may have been to no avail.
I ran testdisk on it which told me that it previously had a mac partition table and a 210GB partition on it (which is larger than the disk) could anyone enlighten me as to whether or not this is even possible, and if so how could i retrieve the data?
Ubuntu 10.04, xsane 0.996, Brother MFC 240c scanner.I just finished writing a long dissertation on my problem with this scanning environment (which I will spare you). In a nutshell the resulting image, when printed, is smaller than the original document. In writing my dissertation for this post I determined that the cause of the issue is that xsane believes I am scanning an 8.5 x 14 inch document when I am in fact scanning an 8.5 x 11 letter. So the question is... can I change the size to 8.5 x 11? and if so, how? I have not found anything in the xsane Preferences.

is lvresize with --resizefs options re-size the Logical Volume and then re-size the file system? i mean we don't need to use resize2fs?I looked at man pages but it doesn't explain this option.

I can run this thing from within its directory... but I do not like messing within the directories of my applications, this is why I sent this to /usr/local, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin...
I am trying to troubleshoot an application that is generating several segfaults with an error 14, but the application is not crashing.The program continues to run. I would assume I can connect to a running process to debug it, but I'm not sure what to gather. The program has several background processes associated with it so I'm sure I'll need to attach to the actual internal process. Does anyone have any experience in this to offer some insight?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Canoscan LiDE 30 scanner which works fine in Linux. I haven't used it in months, and never since moving from Jaunty x86_64 to Fedora 11 x86_64. This evening I suddenly need to scan two pages to send to someone via e-mail, and the recipient is desperate to receive them. Naturally, Xsane has decided this is the moment to screw me.
The problem: I cannot figure out how to tell Xsane that the page size is 8.5 11. It insists on scanning only the left side, 3.99 x 11. I cannot find a page size anywhere in any of the buttons.
In Preview I once got it to scan the entire page, but could not figure out how to save the image to file. Subsequently I have not been able to figure out how I did it. In any event, scanning from the small main window always scans 3.99 x 11. Adjusting the scan area manually in the Preview window allows me to change the size area in the small main window to 8.5 x 11, but when I then scan from the small main window it reverts to 3.99 x 11.
I have scanned the document a hundred times at least, each time trying different buttons, but nothing has succeeded in getting the full page.
Are there software that can split big file size into small file size in Linux?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Ubuntu 10.10 and the cursor is white on a white background. I tried changing it using the Appearance settings and only the size changed, not the colour.
Can anyone explain why this is happening, and how to change the cursor so that it is visible. Have never had this trouble with any other Linux distro, so it's not hardware.
