Ubuntu :: Configuring ATI Radeon HD 5450

Just purchased and installed an ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card and installed the proprietary drivers via System > Administration > Hardware Drivers. After rebooting the machine X would not load so I restarted into recovery and removed my xorg.conf. At this point I could restart normally and the machine would let me into X. I went to System > Preferences > ATI Catalyst Control Center to try and configure the card.
I receive the following message:
There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following. No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI Driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig.
So, I did just that, I restored my backup xorg.conf (configured for nvidia card) and executed 'sudo aticonfig --initial', it made the proper changes and additions to the configuration file and this is what it looks like [view xorg.conf]. I then restarted the machine and X still refuses to begin [view Xorg.0.log]. Again, I went in removed the xorg.conf file and the machine will load normally. I tried running fglrxinfo to try and see if the card was properly installed and it just threw a segmentation fault.

i got a dell computer running ubuntu. it is equipped with an ATI radeon 5450, using a dell IN2010 1600x900 screen. when i installed ubuntu, the resolution was just fine. then i installed the ATI driver, and from that moment on, i have that strange behaviour: when i start ubuntu, the resolution seems set to 1440x900, but stretched to wide-screen mode, so the font is somehow blurry. when i turn the monitor off and then on again, everything is just fine.i have catalyst control center installed, and the resolution is set to 1600x900, but i still have the problem that i described.

After installation of the new hardware I activated the ATI closed source driver. There is an issue with the screens
1st screen, via DVI: I cannot change to the native screen resolution
2nd screen, via VGA: The background of any window is not drawn.
Means: I can see lots of parts of other windows after moving or closing them.
Therefore I was searching for an alternative and found the hint to uninstall the ATI driver and use the open source one. After uninstall and reboot (requested by a parallel system update), some boot messages I have no screen output anymore. Means: two black screens. These are going into sleep mode after a few seconds. How can I get a running system again? Optimal would be, that I have full support for both screens. Same happens in failsave mode.
System environment:
Ubuntu 10.04
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, 4G RAM, motherboard ALiveNF6G-DVI (internal graphic deactivated), ATI Radeon HD 5450

Few week back I downloaded this driver ati-driver-installer-10-12-x86.x86_64 from AMD/ATI. Everything when ok then I decided to reboot f@@@@K the system up kept rebooting all the time so I did a fresh install again and downloaded the Driver again but this time I need QA. Is this driver will solve my issue of Accelerated 3D graphics is not available? Will this mess everything up again? If so how can I recover without having to do a fresh install?

Installed Ubuntu 10.10 on fresh HP dm4-1050so laptop and encountered problems, this is one of them. Noticed that ATI card is heating heavely with default installation and I would like disable it and switch to use Intel's GMA. Also tested ATI proprietary fglrx driver through Administration->Additional Drivers, after booting got empty screen so I switched back. Afterwards read from documentation that 5450 is not supported, so no wonder. So what is the simplest way of disabling ATI and using only Intel's gma? Here's what I got with lspci -v:

I recently installed ubuntu 10.10 on HTPC, after having a few RAM and SATA issues everything seems to be working fine, The audio (using HDMI) does not work. Have PC connected using HDMI for video (and I am hoping for audio too, this card is made for this and it has been tested with other OS) however the audio does not work, although in the audio preferences it shows to be using the correct hardware. Testing for sound under sound preferences does not play anything, acts as it it was, but no sound, no error messages either. I went ahead and installed ATIs proprietary drivers in hopes that it would make the audio work, but not luck so far.

I recently bought 1GB video card of 'xfx radeon hd 5450'. It came with cd for drivers of windows.
I installed fglrx. Still in ubuntu 10.10 (lucid) I ran: lspci -v | grep -i prefetchable
which shows 256M which is video memory of my ASUS motherboard.

I just installed the propretary driver for my graphics card, that I could excellerate my gfx.
I tried working with the ATI CCC, and it can't run because of my graphics configuration. It says to run aticonfig. I do, and I don't get anything helpful. It needs an argument. I tried --initial, but it can't find my Xorg config in the standard path.

I need to setup a dual-headed workstation that will be starting one instanse of certain program in each monitor. I got screens configured. But get errors when running a command for second monitor.
DISPLAY=:0.0 firefox- this runs ok in left monitor
DISPLAY=:0.1 firefox- this erros out
Error: cannot open display: :0.1
I've tried configuring with sax2 and with aticonfig but still get error for second screen

Last year I had a gui tool for configuring the radeon open source drivers in my old slackware install but now I forgot the name of it. I'm pretty sure it was gtk based and no matter what I type in google I can't seem to find any reference to it. There is a radeontool but that's not it. Anyone know what the name for it was, or something else that provides easy configuring of the open source radeon drivers? I remember it had lots of options to configure including some I've never heard of. Thought it'd be easy to find now since it seemed so officially supported during the time I used it!

i have ubuntu 10.10 kernel 2.6.35-25-generic installed , 2GB ram, intel 41g express chipset. Machine is double boot - Ubuntu and Windows 7
Today I installed ATI hd 5450, everything works fine on Windows, but I have trouble with playing videos on Ubuntu. I logged in Ubuntu and there was this bold black line in the bottom of the screen (about 1/4 of the screen in total), I reboot and it was there again, so I installed and activated ATI driver System=>administration=>additional drivers Installed ATI Catalyst driver Reboot and that line was gone, but after a while I noticed that VLC and Movie Player won't play videos, I tried formats like avi, mkv, mp4. There is a sound but no picture. I can play ..... and other videos in browser (Firefox, Chrome). I tried installing a few other video players but it didn't help. I was able to play videos with integrated video card.

I replaced an ATI Radeon 9550 with a Radeon X1300/X1550, in hopes of better performance.
My System: P4@3GHz, 1.5Gb RAM, Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.10-90.fc12.
Faults: Screen refresh is extremely low. Glxgears outputs 25 FPS. Dragging windows around is sometimes really slow.
What I did so far, in hope of fixing it:
1. Installed 'system-config-display', for providing an xorg.conf
2. Did: yum --enablerepo=rawhide update mesa-dri-drivers-experimental mesa*, fixing this, but to no avail...
I cannot find any errors in the log...I don't know what to do...
I am posting my Xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and Glxinfo through links to pastebin.com
POST UPDATE:
When running GlxGears, I get a bit of motion, and then the gears freeze for 1 second. And this goes on and on. But...if I move the mouse around, I get 1100FPS!
Now I messed a bit with xorg.conf and the "SWCursor" Option, but the above happens when this option is on "true". On "false" there is no 1100FPS, only the freezing loop...

I been searching for months on how to get the s-video to work on my pci VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] card. I found a site with instructions.
This is how I got it to work.
I install Debian 5.0 Lenny Desktop
added the Driver "radeon" to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
This work and I was able to use my tv as a monitor however when I try to play a video file from totem or vlc all I could get was audio with no video; These files work and played fine in the CRT monitor.

When I put my laptop, a Presario X1000 to sleep that uses Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500], when it comes back up, I get just black and white "nosie" on the screen.
Even after I do cntr+alt+F1 and then cntrl+alt+F7 it still doesn't appear to restore the regular screen.

I installed Ubuntu a few months ago on my Dell inspiron 1318. All works really well, however my only only problem with the setup is the boot selection screen. Is there a way to put Vindoz in the first spot instead of Ubuntu? I use them about 50-50 of the time but would still prefer windows as default because my wife uses that with her accounting software and she goes nuts when she turns it on and it goes to Linux.

When I issued 'tail -f /var/log/messages', I got no messages. do I have to disable any other services to do this work.

I am trying to configure my wireless network on my laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 and am having a bit of difficulty. I am a complete Linux newb, but want to learn it, hence the reason I'm trying to set this up. Here's the vitals:It is a Gateway 600 YG2 laptop. It was previously running Windows XP, but I installed Ubuntu 10.10 in place of it (not a dual boot, I removed XP altogether).I have an old wireless card that I'm trying to resurrect. I haven't really used the card in a couple years, but it seems to still work, I just can't connect to my home's wireless network. The card is a Linksys WPC11 v2.5. When I plug it in, Ubuntu recognizes the network, but won't connect to it. My home network uses WPA encryption and the only connection type that Ubuntu's network manager is giving me is WEP and then it asks for a key -- I have no idea what that key should be.
So, basically, I'm asking, is there a way I can instead connect through WPA? I've tried creating a new connection in network manager, but that won't work, it keeps falling back to the WEP connection and asking me for a key. I have tried to install the XP driver using ndiswrapper but I don't know if that's working or not. Is there a way to tell if:A) the card is working as it shouldB) the correct drivers are installed (again, I installed the XP one using ndiswrapper NET8180.INF, but I'm not sure what to do next)

I am experiencing trouble configuring suPHP on my Ubuntu 8.04 web server. I've googled around quite a bit and the general consensus is that you first disable php5, then install the suphp module (I did that from the repo). I configured one of my Vhosts to use suPHP_UserGroup, but I get the following error:
Invalid command 'suPHP_UserGroup', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
I know the module is loaded, so I'm not sure why I'm getting this error. Is a Vhost the right place for this setting? Note that I installed from the repository instead of compiling from source if that makes any difference. Any insight on this issue? I can provide configuration files if need be.
Edit: After some extended googling, from what I understand I have to recompile suPHP using the 'paranoid' mode. Am I correct?

I'm new to Ubuntu and installed Apache, Tomcat and PHP using separate packages. All work well but it seems that the default doc root for Apache and PHP are in different places as:The following command to start Apache: sudo /usr/local/apache2/bin/apachectl start brings me to the "Test Page for Apache Install" and shows the Apache logo--successful--when I hit URl....Also, could someone please tell me how to stop PHP from starting Apache on boot?

I am using Ubuntu 9.10. I just got a Linksys WRH54G wireless router. I want to protect my wireless connection by putting a password to it but when I enter the Router's default IP address (192.168.1.1) into my browser to open the 'Utility Welcome screen', the browser does not respond.
According to the Router's manual this is because PC' TCP-IP is not set to automatically obtain the IP address.

I would like the calender to boot come on the screen with only the month ctrl 3 and the contact/control panel on the left.
I do not want the Event or Task areas to show. I don't use them that much and there are buttons to call them if I do need to make notes.
I only want the numbered squares and buttons/icons to be displayed.
I've dug here:

I recently bought a dell inspiron 14 n4010 and i've installed windows and Ubuntu 10.04 in it. The problem is that i'm not able to access internet in my ubuntu. I'm using asianet broadband connection and i'm able to get internet in my desktop when i connect the cable to the system. But when i did the same with ubuntu 10.04 in my laptop, i'm not able to get internet access. I'm able to access internet in windows though. But i hate using windows.
