Mar 31, 2010I need to create a test setup in my lab that will run power supplies for an indefinite amount of time. It could be anywhere from days to months at a time. This rules out matlab, as its memory leaks won't let it run that long, and LabView is too buggy (at least in my experience. and it has memory leaks as well). So I need a way to program GPIB (since that is the interface these power supplies have). So far, PyVISA seems to be the most likely way to be able to do this.
However, I keep receiving the following error:

pyvisa.visa_exceptions.VisaIOError: VI_ERROR_LIBRARY_NFOUND: A code library required by VISA could not be located or loaded.
Searching around, this apparently means that I'm missing GPIB drivers, but I'm not.
linux-gpib installed, and the card appears in /dev.
That being said, every now and then the gpib interfaces simply disappear from /dev,and the only way I can get them back is to reinstall linux-gpib. Also, has anybody else succeeded in working with GPIB outside of LabView and Matlab, and if so how? I'm also open to other options, having made no progress on this after over a week. The two real requirements is that I need programming interface to be scpi commands, and I would prefer to code in python or C/C++.

Dec 12, 2010Recently I faced a problem in typing in English in OpenSuse 11.3.When I try to type in English it shows me Greek letter and worse than that I think it is really Greek (not only in font) because when I enter my passwords or try to type a command in terminal I get error,I tested with UK and USA and all other English languages and I still have this problem. I even do reset in my keyboard layout setting and in KDE setting but it didn't help.

May 4, 2010I am pretty new to bash scripting...I am trying to write a script that will take an input and read it word for word and then DO something with it like echo. I have been able to find how to read word for word from a file but I don't know how to do it with input.

Feb 19, 2010I have to modify formsweb.cfg file in Oracle IAS.
Problem description
In formsweb.cfg file are two lines with labels archive_jini= and archive= at the beginning of line. After equal sign (=) is row of filenames of java archives delimited by coma(,). When I insert a new jar file in java directory, I have to append the very same name of jar file to both lines if that name is not yet present.

Jan 27, 2010how I can shuffle my MP3 files before I drag them on to my player? My little D-Wave MP3/4 player does not shuffle songs. This can be a little boring. I use Banshee to drag and drop songs to it without any problems and Banshee will play the tracks randomly.
I did see a thread on the Forum recently which looked like it would shuffle the files in a directory but I have not been able to find it again.

May 11, 2010Since upgrading to 10.04, Rhythmbox has been crashing regularly. It seems that every time it picks a new track, it has a chance of closing without notice. This can happen for the first track it plays, when clicking "next track" or when automatically going to the next track. This only seems to happen on shuffle, which is the way I usually use Rhythmbox. I tried running it with `rhythmbox -d` but the only output consistent between crashes is "Aborted", which appears suddenly and without any additional information or even a line break.
(10.04 64bit, upgraded from 9.10.)
Ubuntu :: IPod Shuffle No Longer Works With Banshee?
Jul 26, 2010I have a 3rd gen iPod shuffle which I had loaded music onto in Banshee a few months ago. It worked fine until yesterday when I decided I wanted to delete a few tracks from it. When I mounted it and opened Banshee it said I had to rebuild the database or something to that effect. I did that and could then see all the tracks on it. I went ahead and deleted the few tracks I wanted to remove, and ejected it. When I tried to use it, it says "please use itunes to sync music." A little confused, I went back and deleted all the tracks on it (using Banshee) and reloaded some tracks. It still won't work.
I haven't changed anything in Banshee (as far as I know) and I have never plugged the shuffle into itunes. I've always used Banshee to manage it and never had a problem. The only major change I can think of that might have made a difference is upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04.

Dec 2, 2010My ipod shuffle (1st generation) will not mount in Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit when I plug it into my usb port. When I plug in the ipod I do not get an icon being created for it on the desktop. I have also checked nautilus and there is no storage device for the ipod showing when I click on computer in nautilus.I have also checked /media in nautilus and there in no listing for the ipod. The only way I can see the ipod in Ubuntu is if I open up a terminal window and use the command lsusb which then shows a listing for the ipod.
If I have the ipod plugged into my computer before I turn it on and then turn on the computer to boot with Ubuntu, Ubuntu does not boot in the normal graphics mode but boots in text mode where I have to type in my name and password on a black terminal screen. The ipod has the latest software on it as well as being reset back to original factory settings. I have no problems using the ipod if boot up on windows 7 and plug in the ipod.

Dec 27, 2010Banshee will recognize iPod shuffle 4th gen. It will let me drag songs to iPod and they show up in Banshee as being on my iPod. When I disconnect iPod and hit play, the voice over tells me to please load songs from iTunes.

Aug 29, 2010When I plug the suffle in, dmesg looks good and puts it at sdb : sdb1, but /dev/sdb1 is never created.Other thumb drives mount fine at /dev/sdb1 and the shuffle mounts fine on my other debian box at /dev/sdb1. I just installed on this system and it's a pretty sparse install so I'm wondering if I'm missing some firmware.

I have no issues with music showing up fir my Gen 1 iPod Touch, but when I plug in my iPod Shuffle (gen 4 silver) I got an error (only got it once and dont know what it said) and it displays nothing.
