General :: Pipe Output To Pbcopy And Then Go Into A Web Browser And Paste It In A Terminal In OSX
May 25, 2011
In a terminal in OSX I can pipe output to pbcopy and then go into a web browser and paste it. I tried this in Linux with xcopy but when I switch to the browser it just overwrites the clipboard with with whatever was in it the last time the browser was used. What works like pbcopy in Linux?

I often have issues starting my window manager--xfce. My computer misbehaves in one of 3 ways, one of which is to fail to open X, but generate several screens of info. I want to paste that info to this site, but since I'm in the shell, not the terminal (please correct my vocabulary if it's wrong here), I don't know how to copy and paste the output, since right-clicking doesn't give me a menu. Even if I could copy I'm not sure the information would be accessible in X. Are there any other options?

I don't understand why I cannot use Ctrl-Ins and Shift-Ins shortcuts for copy and paste in console terminal. Shortcuts works fine in X terminal (fluxbox) Konsole... but they don't in text console.

After running the following command, I get:
[root@yukiko /]# find / -iname .bashrc
/home/clamav/.bashrc
/home/vpopmail/.bashrc
/etc/skel/.bashrc
/root/.bashrc
But I would like to have a command that prints a specific line by supplying the command with the line number, for example:
[root@yukiko /]# find / -iname .bashrc | getline(2)
/home/vpopmail/.bashrc
Is there such a command on CentOS?

I want to have the output of a program go to 2 different files but not going to standard out. Is there a way to do this in bash? I know that in Z shell its really easy. omething like: Code: echo "test" >> file1 >> file2 Would work. But in Bash it doesn't seem that easy. I know that tee will send the output to 2 files but it also sends it to STDOUT.Something like:Code: echo "test" | tee -a file1 file2 Would put the word "test" in file1, file2, and STDOUT. Is there a way to just send the output to file1 and file2?

hello
I tried to find a good subject but it was the best of mine, anyway I'll explain it here.
some time I do some thing like installing a new application in Linux terminal of my office PC but it take a long time and I have to go home during its installation or configuration process that it is not good to cancel it.My current solution is abandoning the process until next day. I wanted to know is there any way to redirect an input and out put of a terminal to another one, if it works I can continue my abandoned process by ssh to my Linux office PC and redirect that terminal to my new remote sshed terminal from my home.
Thank a lot for any help.

How do you paste text copied from some outside vim source (like a web browser)? That's the one thing that bugs me. I'm trying to more proficient w/ vim, but when I read some instructions on the web that say copy and paste this text into yadayda.conf, I can do that w/ gedit, but can't figure it out in vim.

I'm going away for the weekend and will only be able to bring my laptop that has the latest release of Ubuntu on it. My question is: will i be able to access my company's Terminal Server site [URL] from browser in Linux, and be able to launch the applications? (Outlook, etc.) Seems to connect to Windows Server 2008. If this works in Linux, that would make my life a lot easier..

I just love Linux! I am using Fedora 14 and just starting out. I am curious as to why is that when I click the Firefox icon to launch the internet from the menu bar a Linux terminal window has to be open. If I close that particular terminal, (which by the way says "Terminal" and does not show my chosen host name) Firefox closes. If I go to Applications, then Internet, then Firefox to launch the browser, the terminal doesn't open.

I'm using KeePass 2.10 (with mono) and I am able to copy a password from KeePass (Ctrl+C) and paste into ALL applications except for the GNOME Terminal. When I copy something, I am not able to paste into the terminal, and find the Paste menu item in the edit menu disabled. However, if I paste into another application and cut from there, I can paste into the terminal.
(if it is a bug) which project I should report a bug to (gnome or KeePass?).

I've written a simple server in linux used fork to create a FIFO pipe. The server create two FIFO pipe. One for server read data from client and write data to client. Then another pipe for client read data from server and write data to server. When the server read data from a client used server-pipe and then write data to client. But ,if the client no read open the pipe, the server side write will be crashed because of a broken-pipe SIGPIPE. How to check whether the read side is opened?Or,how to catch the SIGPIPE,and then my server will still execute on,not crashed!!

I want local programmatic access to ssh output in Mac Terminal. First, I tried redirecting the output of each command to a file. The file was perfect, but of course it was on the remote server, and an sftp for each command output seemed a little.. Next, I tried to Applescript Terminal, but it only gives access to the currently visible text in a tab (i.e. if half the output has already scrolled out of sight, it doesn't get returned - useless).
Last, I tried piping ssh to tee (e.g. ssh user@host | tee output.txt). This almost worked. I have the output in a local file, but there are a lot of unwanted characters mixed in. For example, every time I hit backspace, there's a ^H in the file. There's also text like "[0m[K" which is harder to get rid of.
