Ubuntu :: No Internet - Where Can I Donwload All The Software
Jan 14, 2010I don't have the internet at home but I have it in a communautariste library. So I can't donwload the software from Ubuntu, anyway, could I?
I'd like to know : where can I donwload all the software I can see in the libary selection of the ''start'' menu. Sorry but I don't know the name of it in english, I use the french version.
If the software are on different website, can you please give me a good web adress for a site that contain many good software compatible with Ubuntu. Site like sourceforge has many software but all of them require 55 other paquets!
Also, is there a place where I can donwload a mega-pack full of pacquets, so I can search on it at home instead of searching for them, one by one, on a web search engine.
Ubuntu One :: Can't Donwload Music From U1 Storage?
Jun 3, 2010I am getting seriously pissed off and dissappointed at the way things are handled here i bought some music from rhythmbox and after a long journey in disconnections and reconnections i finally got the files in my U1 storage ( rhythmbox still says "Transfering to ur U1 storage" in mydownloads ) now how am i supposed to download all this files??? i can't download an entire folder in web browser ( i can only do one file at a time ) and i am not able to find another way through rhythmbox or anywhere else after reading one hour of irrelevant tutorials and faqs ( i have a headahe at this time, so even if there was a way i probably would not understand it :D )
is there a way or do i just have to suffer downloading all my files one by one ???? and btw: i had to do all this on a virtual machine becuz noscript got in the way of adding my pc to the account ( w/ allowing all the servers it still blocked something) and rhythmbox crashed somewhere in the process and after restarting my pc, it kept getting stock when pressed the check out button any way that's not important i actually prefer it this way to have one dedicated virtual machine for U1 music
OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Donwload 4.7 GB Of Open Suse 11.4?
Mar 11, 2011When I click download DVD 4.7 GB, on any browser (I tried in Firefox, Opera and Chrome) It started to download 4.3 GB instead of 4.7- The first Download was 4.2 GB and I though that was wright, but the checksum didn't match. Now It started download only 4.3 GB Why is that? How can I solve this ?

May 2, 2011I often use the option in Chromium to create 'application shortcuts'. These are instances of Chromium that make a website look more like an app by not including most of Chromium's toolbars. I use it for gmail and google docs and spreadsheets and calendar. In 11.04 I have set up Desktop launchers and copied them across to the Launcher (what an odd way to add something to the launcher, why no right-click 'add launcher' option?)
The problem is that the launcher thinks all these apps are chromium (which they are really, but I would like them to be seen as separate apps). If I minimize my gmail window, a little triangle appears next to the chromium icon, not the gmail icon. To get the window back, I have to click on the Chromium icon. Clicking on the gmail icon launches a new instance of it (also tied to the Chromium icon).

Dec 2, 2010if i run chromium with --enable-gpu-rendering flag chromium's display looks like it's shattered into thousands of pieces and I can't understand a thing. This doesn't happens if I have a previous instance of chromium opened in the usual way, without any flag. In this case if I open another chromium window with the --enable-gpu-rendering flag it's display looks ok, but I can't figure out what's the problem and how could this be fixed if there's solution for it of course.

Oct 22, 2010I made a shortcut with chromium browser to listen.grooveshark.com. This is great as it's almost like the grooveshark VIP desktop application like this. However AWN dock groups it with other chromium windows like this:Kuvakaappaus.jpg
Is it possible to force AWN to group this specific chromium window under the Grooveshark launcher that I have in the dock? Turning off grouping does not solve this either, as it just shows grooveshark as another chromium window.

After the installation finished i was forceded to restart my system in order the installation to get done. I did it but i ended up with a black screen and ubuntu logo in the middle of it. Cups, hpijs hplip etc., system finds printer and sets it up and from system/administration/printing the printer shows up with the right description Hp deskjet d2600 on local host. when I try to print I get message "started job" and another message "finished job" but nothing prints. The log Var/log/cups/error_log shows only one thing that I think is wrong "cupsd authorize:no authentication data provided". my user name john and one other Andy (I installed) show up in lp group. I could attach the whole error_log file if it would help. I am new to Linux but love it. I used Windows NT for years. I am the administrator on the box. Don't know what to try next.

Ubuntu Installation :: Accidentally Canceled Upgrade To Maverick Before It Finished?
Nov 1, 2010I accidentally cancelled the upgrade (ctrl-c) to maverick before it finished on one of my servers. It was during one of the questions about installing an updated config file. If I run "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade", it complains that it can't lock the directory /var/lib/dpkg. What can I do to recover this and continue with the upgrade?

General :: File Has Finished Uploading From Another Location?
Jun 5, 2011Let's say we have machine 1 and machine 2. Machine 2, which is linux based, is receiving a file (let's say cat.jpg sent via SCP from machine 1 (doesn't really matter which operating system..) How can I know in machine 2, that the file has finished uploading from machine 1 ? Please note that by "knowing" I mean by running a command (via a cron that runs every minute), and not by an event driven way ("make the scp issue a command when it is finished uploading"). Another limitation I have is that I can't change anything in machine 1 or in the way it SCP files.
If it really matters: the files being transferred are video file, MP4 extension. machine 2 is ubuntu 10.10

The same sound also come out when rebooting/shutting down my laptop and this had never happened when I'm using Lenny. Where can I configure so the sound won't come out ever again.

This is literally a big enough deal that I might just un-install it. But, that would be terrible because I think it's a fantastic app if it didn't sit there for five god damn minutes telling me about messages I read five minutes ago...
No, not literally five minutes, so don't respond saying "There's no way its five minutes" or "if it lasts that long something's wrong with your computer". If I really can't change the timing then that's an awful call on the part of the programmers who made it. Who the hell wants an app that can't be adjusted in any way?

May 3, 2010No matter what I try, notifications do not appear. The notify-osd program is running (if I check ps) and nothing ever reports an error. I just don't see it, or hear it (does it make a sound?)
I think this might be because of my dual screen setup. I have two screens set up, with the screen on the right lower than the screen on the left so that they match up in real life.
This leaves a dead space above the right hand screen, perhaps its appearing in there? But I have already used notification-preferences to move it to the left (does that even work?) and still nothing. What's up? I rely on notifications to tell me that something's up, since the new "notification area" plugin does not flash and is thus utterly useless on this large screen display (design failure)

OpenSUSE Install :: Network Driver - Fails Before The CD Initial Boot Has Finished
Aug 11, 2010I am attempting a Network installation of openSuse 11.3 on an old desktop which has IBM Boot Manager so that I can boot to one of three OSs, openSuse being the third. Sadly the installation of openSuse fails before the CD initial boot has finished. Looking at the text log of the starting process the problem appears to be a driver and the last line of text where it stalls refers to eata driver.
There are 4 hard drives in the machine, configured as two RAID 1 arrays driven by a DPT 2144W hardware raid card. (Very old but very good). If I Google eata I get a good deal on SCSI raid and DPT cards but I am out of my depth when they say a kernel module is needed.
Another concern is that the RAID arrays are configured using a bootable DOS configuration disk and once this is done they are recognized by other OSs such as eCS and OS/2. The arrays are just treated as single drives so these OS installations do not interfere with the card configuration. I am concerned because I cannot afford to lose the data on the drives but it appears the linux driver might want to rebuild the arrays.
