I need to check and see that dbus, udisks and gvfs are running correctly, how can I check them?
I'm running only LXDE on a custom install of Lucid I did and I can't get my usb hard drive to automount properly and I was told by an LXDE developer that I need to check and make sure these three are running ok.
I have installed Fedora 15 x86_64 but as I don't really like Gnome 3, I switch GDM/Gnome to Slim/awesome. Everything works except one thing which is authorisation with polkit /consolkit. When i launch a session with slim, it reads my .xinitrc and execute awesome with this command:

exec ck-launch-session awesome And in a virtual terminal if I check the autorisation with ck-list-sessions , the parameters "active" and "is-local" are always FALSE. So I can't use some applications like udisks and udisks-glue for automounting usb drive for example.
But if I launch my system in runlevel 3 ( via systemd), log in a tty and use startx , the parameters "active" and "is-local" are True and I am able to use udisks and udisks-glue.
How do I stop gvfs-afc-volume from running on my computer? What exactly is it?

Linux 2.6.34.10-0.2-default i686
openSUSE 11.3 (i586)

When I use nautilus open my home directory, everything is OK except that the file contents in the home directory are not presented. It seems that nautilus is still waiting and busy.
After that, I try to enter the user's home directory by the Terminal and succeed. I can use 'ls' to display the file in the home directory, But when I use 'ls -a' to print the hiden files, again the Terminal seem to be lock. the 'ls -a' is locked, I fail to 'kill' it.
At last, I find that everything that connects to the behavior which need to enter, delete or just dsplay the /home/$USER/.gvfs will fail and lock, and without any error message.
Recently upgraded to F12. K3B can't burn DVDs. Drive was working fine in Fedora 10 before the upgrade, and I've applied all updates.

Has anyone tried updating dbus in factory up to level 1.4 under openSuSE 11.3 x86_64 and continue to run KDE 4.4.4 Stable? Just wondering if it causes any issues or if it forces you to go to KDE 4.5.1 Factory. I've tried updating to 4.5.1 without, other thread, and the suggestion was to update dbus to 1.4 to correct speed issues.

It's a bash script that, amongst other things, checks the current playing song in Rhythmbox with "rhythmbox-client --print-playing". Now the thing is that if I run the script by hand it works perfectly, but when it's run by cron this part gives the following error:

Should I have hal and/or dbus services running when my system doesn't have GUI? For example, in case of a mail/web server where I have console applications only on it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have bash script for converting files. I have a problem. If file name is "corrupted" then mv command for that file will not work. For example file with "-" in front of the name.
Is there a way to check if in some folder (subfolder) all the files have correct file names or they don't?
If they are all correct -> OK proceed with execution of the script!
If they are not all correct -> NOT OK stop with execution of the script!
do have installed glib and dbus and can find them manually , /usr/include/glib-2.0/glib.h , but while comipling applicaiton it gives following error messages.

I have been searching for 90 minutes for something that I "think" should be fairly easy. I'm pretty new to Bash Scripting so I could be completely wrong. The error reads: GPG keys listed for RPM Fusion for Fedora Rawhide-free repository are installed but they are not correct for this package. Check that the correct key urls are configured for this repository.
This is far too involved for a linux newbie, I think my only option is to reformat and reinstall. This is so frustrating, there are 250 MB of updates available that I can't access.

I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix for my new laptop. I've tried at great length to install the correct drivers to get my wireless up and running. I'm currently trying to install the Broadcom driver for my 802.11g wireless card. I have downloaded the headers and tools for ubuntu and am proceeding with the instructions given on [URL].
But when I get to these steps I come unstuck

I'm having trouble with the ftp_get function and I believe the problem is with the local server path. In this case var/www/download.txt I've also used a folder in that directory called download in the place of the .txt file and it gives the same errors. Is var/www/ the correct path to tell php where to download the files to? I've experimented with the files permission and nothing has worked. I'm running a standard ubuntu desktop install, Karmic Koala.
I have now installed a radeon 9250l display board. I followed the Ubuntu Radeon documentation page. It tells me that 3d is supported. I am not sure that 3d is correct or running. I am running without a xorg.conf file and my current resolution os 1024x768 (which is fine). I get no errors on boot but want to make sure its correct. I also did:

What's the correct way to shutdown system while apt-get is still running? apt-get complains about unclean shutdown when I just shutdown computer.

I do not have video drivers for a graphical setup apparently now that Gnome is getting more advanced, so I really need to restore to a CLI. I see /etc/inittab is now deprecated thanks to systemd. The instructions say the following:

Why is this machine starting up graphically? I even removed the symlink and recreated it... but that obviously isn't the issue here.
I'm not sure what when wrong since I have a few DVDs and they all play well in my normal DVD player, I later attempt to mount it in my Ubuntu 8.10 I'm presented with the following message:

I tried to make one myself, but since the .x86 file has the same name for every server, it is hard to know a way to check if the server is running with the right process.

I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy DVD/CD burner is rather old now (going on 5 years), and I've had some "quality" issues when I've been burning stuff for the past year.
CD's: When I play a burned CD in my car stereo, the songs have a "skipping" sound to them on the low-volume levels of the audio. I use K3b as my burning software, and it seems to be the best, but am I wrong? Is this a common problem?
DVD's: Specifically video DVD's. After converting the .avi to an image file using DeVeDe Creator, it gives me a file that has the .iso and I burn the disc using K3b. It's really hit or miss.
The question: is there a way to test the performance of my DVD burner to make sure it's working properly? Is there a way to calibrate the mechanism? I have a new External DVD/CD burner that supports "LiteScribe" (I could be mistaken on the name, but it's a technology that allows you to create a picture on the opposite side of the disc), but my INTERNAL is a 5 year old Lite-On.
