Fedora :: Why Inittab Running Graphically - All Settings Correct

I'm using Fedora 15. For some reason, my computer is booting up graphically. I do not have video drivers for a graphical setup apparently now that Gnome is getting more advanced, so I really need to restore to a CLI. I see /etc/inittab is now deprecated thanks to systemd. The instructions say the following:

And that's exactly what I have set up!

Why is this machine starting up graphically? I even removed the symlink and recreated it... but that obviously isn't the issue here.
Set up new server using RH 2.6.9-42.ELsmp on an old HP G4 server. But can't get network to work, can't ping any host, not even my gateway.
Verified cable by plugin a different pc on it, using same network ip address, etc, it worked fine, could ping gateway and other hosts on same segment. Are there any other files I could check to verify network card on server is good? it was working when it was configured as a windows server.
I have some DVD's that I've saved to my comp as an ISO, in Ubuntu they would play fine in Movie Player or VLC, but I've just tried to play one on Debain Lenny and I have the following issues.
Movie Player: Will play the video but wont bring up the main menu so that I can select which episode that I want. It won't even skip to the next one, it just starts playing the first.
VLC: So I then though I'd down the trusted ol' VLC. VLC brings up the main menu but I can't select any thing. It just sits there and playing the menu screen for a bit and my mouse clicks seem to have know effect (except double clicking to change to full screen). Then it starts playing the first one, if I try to skip it goes back to the main menu and starts all over again. This particular issue I sometimes had in Ubuntu with Movie Player (depending on the ISO) but VLC would still play it fine.
Update: Just got VLC to run the menu correctly by doing the following: File => Open Capture Device => File Tab => Browse to the file, select it. => Click OK. I don't really want to have to do this every time I want to watch a video. Does any one know of a setting that will do this when ever I click on the ISO to play it?
I have tried all the ways possible by changing settings in BIOS, changed the ROM, even the hard disk but nothing worked to install red hat 5 in my system. I tried to install in my laptop and it was done but not in my desktop. I m using HP dc7900 convertible minitower.
I fired up my PC this morning and not unusually got an update message. I updated all that I was instructed to, as per normal - and at the end of the update was told that I'd need to restart to effect changes. I was in the middle of something else at the time so I left it but I turned the PC off an hour or so later and left it.
On starting up again I cannot get my previous resolution (1600 x 1200) and Second Life resolutely refuses to run giving a "Window creation error". Trying to change the display settings from the System> Administration menu just stops: It asks for the root PW and then nothing happens
Clearly something's gone a bit pear shaped here. I'm using Fedora 12 wth a PAE kernel and on an AMD 5200 chip with an nvidia 7900GS card. Things worked fine until this update so I strongly suspect that to be the cause but what can I do to fix it? Is there any way to "roll back" the update somehow or is there a fix?
I installed avant-window-navigator and followed these instructions to remove gnome-panel from startup: URL...However I have since uninstalled AWN and now cannot get gnome-panel to load at startup.I think I have put my settings back where they should be -- looking at them in gconf-editor:
1. desktop > gnome > session, the required_components_list is [windowmanager,filemanager,panel]
2. desktop > gnome > session > required_components_list, the panel value is "gnome-panel"
Yet gnome-panel does not load at startup. Any ideas why?Clarification: I can get gnome-panel to load by listing it under Startup Applications, but I am curious why it won't load via the gconf settings.
I just want to know how can I access root graphically if I want to paste a folder or write something then I have to do it by terminal I want to do it as graphically. If I am not wrong some thing like this system I found on fedora 8 but I want to do it in fedora 14. even f14 gedit not working.
I have 2 10.04 computers and one win 7 and one vista computer: The win computers can see each other and the ubuntu computers, but the ubuntu computers cannot see each other or the win machines. The ubuntu computers connect to the internet fine and can ping each other. I cannot find settings to correct.
I've updated a Fedora Core 3 server to Fedora 11. The old FC3 had an external modem attached for when we felt like dialing in for a ppp connection. I've replicated login.config, mgetty.config and dialin.config from the old server and had to put a RS232-to-USB adapter on the modem. I've test connected to the server and everything look fine. I'm have a difficult time starting the getty session from inittab.

Neither faxgetty or vgetty start on reboot or changing runlevel. How do you implement the equivalent of the old inittab function?
I was using V9 and upgrade to V10 and now my logins in my inittab do not work. I realize that is file structure is outdated so I made individual run files for each of my serial devices under event.d ( such as TX0000 - rc....etc) - all this works but i need to manual type initctl start TX000o to get logon for my serial devices. I would so much like them to automatically start on bootup.
I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix for my new laptop. I've tried at great length to install the correct drivers to get my wireless up and running. I'm currently trying to install the Broadcom driver for my 802.11g wireless card. I have downloaded the headers and tools for ubuntu and am proceeding with the instructions given on [URL].
But when I get to these steps I come unstuck # mkdir hybrid_wl # cd hybrid_wl # tar xzf <path>/hybrid-portsrc.tar
I can make the directory and open it but when it comes to the third step I get a message saying that there is no such file or directory.
how to access a FTP server with php. I've written a script from a tutorial but I'm getting errors with the ftp_get function.

I'm having trouble with the ftp_get function and I believe the problem is with the local server path. In this case var/www/download.txt I've also used a folder in that directory called download in the place of the .txt file and it gives the same errors. Is var/www/ the correct path to tell php where to download the files to? I've experimented with the files permission and nothing has worked. I'm running a standard ubuntu desktop install, Karmic Koala.
I need to check and see that dbus, udisks and gvfs are running correctly, how can I check them?
I'm running only LXDE on a custom install of Lucid I did and I can't get my usb hard drive to automount properly and I was told by an LXDE developer that I need to check and make sure these three are running ok.
I have now installed a radeon 9250l display board. I followed the Ubuntu Radeon documentation page. It tells me that 3d is supported. I am not sure that 3d is correct or running. I am running without a xorg.conf file and my current resolution os 1024x768 (which is fine). I get no errors on boot but want to make sure its correct. I also did:

Since the documentation seems to apply to the previous version (mine is 10.04) that may be a problem.
I'm running into this issue after installing Fedora Core 11 off DVD. Anaconda install the first part of the installation, then after reboot it goes into run level 3 (I think, where you have to login as root) I noticed that it said xserver failed to load before it actually boots Anaconda.
Maybe I should pull a graphic's card? I have logged in as root after the base install and did a lspci, and you can see the two Nvidia Quadro FX1700's and you can tell it is an intel board with the Intel Corp 6311ESB/6321ESB PCI Express ports. Also you can navigate through the linux directories via ls \. I tried YUM to find/install the graphics drivers but it says something about metadata not being configured. I checked the IP address with ifconfig and had to manually assign an ip.
I am using Centos 5. I got one error unexpectedly after some configuration for rsync and folder settings. The error i am getting is "Serve Authorization directory (daemon/ServAuthDir) is set to /var/gdm but does not exist. Please correct the configuration and restart GDM." after rebooting.
I tried to resolve the issue by setting permission for folder /var/gdm to 755. but the problem is still not resolved.
I am using Fedora 13 x86_64 on a Acer Aspire 7730ZG laptop with: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [GeForce 9300M GS] (rev a1) I have kmod-nvidia-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.x86_64-195.36.31-1.fc13.2.x86_64 installed from rpmfuison when I plug in the hdmi cable to the tv, my tv says the resoultion is at 720p, and I can not get any of the resolutions settings to look right on seperate x screen with the nvidia X server settings gui. my tv is a vizo 42inch. also another question is their a way to set the video card to output at 1080? this might be part of my problem?
I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.
In my server the iptables and ip6tables services are not running. But still i am getting some iptables and ip6tables related alerts on my /var/log/messages. My technical leader told me that there might be some mis-configuration in iptables configuration file. But i didnt see anything wrong.

Using suse 11.3 and kde 4.5 after an updating happen that runlevel 5 is skipped and suse dont start x I think is a kdm problem, becouse if I change kdm in gdm in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager it starts and show me the login window, (but system don't work well)

How can I come back to a working kdm using only "non graphic environment"?
I need to say that this is not my computer, so I don't know all of the details, but I know all it is really used for is Internet and reading .pdfs, and the main user is not an advanced user at all, so he wouldn't have messed with anything important. The picture pretty much says it all. It does not look like this at startup. This computer is set up to go to sleep after 15 minutes, and sleeping is how it spends most of its time. I don't know if sleep is what causes the problem or not. It just does it randomly after some time. The only way to fix it is to restart the computer.
i have downloaded the software bluez-4.81.tar.gz from internet and saved iy on desk top.in command line i typed like following.

there is a option for unzipping graphically.so i right cliccked using mouse and extracted.then a folder named "bluez-4.81" appeared on desk top. Now what are the steps to install this bluetooth software?
this isn't so much slackware specific as it is general linux related, but using the default huge slackware kernel included with 13.1, acpi reports cpu temps of about 55 celsius i always like to run my own kernels though, and using the latest stable kernel, i have compiled one using what i believe is necessary for my hardware, and everything works as expected except that acpi reports my cpu temp as 80 celsius at idle, causing my fan to be running constantly
so without simply using the generic config included with slack in the newer kernel, what do you think might be causing the thermal issues? i used diff on the two configs and the output is over 5,000 lines, so thats not a huge help, and im really not even sure what to be looking for the cpu is an intel i7 720qm, so if anyone might know any specific settings for that processor type needed for acpi to interface with it properly that would be much obliged here is my config for potential review: [URL] also, if i disable acpi entirely, the fan operates as normal but i cannot get readings obviously
There is a test/development environment here at work with some windows and some CentOS systems connecting over a network share to a CentOS fileserver in the data center. The developers run as root (i know i know, but the environment is completely cut off from the rest of the company and this just worked best) and connect to the fileserver using samba. I tried using nfs but to no avail. Now, a couple of the developers have no issues with permissions at all but a couple of them are not able to delete files or folders in their network share graphically. They can through terminal though.
