I have had my server for quite some time now with a website running, but just recently I cannot connect in any possible way. Even from the server itself. I've tried the domain name, ip address, and internal address but it always comes up cannot connect to server. The only thing I can think of is we recently installed nortan security suite on our main computer. I've checked all the settings however and I didn't find anything wrong. Does anybody have any idea what may be causing this? I'm a little tempted to just re-install everything and start from scratch.
I just installed Ubuntu and I cannot connect to the internet. I am new at this I wanted to try it out before I restore my computer back to Windows. So I need to be walked through it all still trying to figure out where all the shortcuts and everything are.
I installed Fedora 12 weeks ago and it was working like a charm. And suddenly, i can't seem to connect to the internet anymore.I tried booing to winxp and i successfully conected. I'm using PPPOE connection. And that's the error in the var/log/messages

Recently, or more specifically, yesterday, Thunderbird started telling me that the IMAP Yahoo server does not accept my password encryption. I checked in the settings, and it says it is "Normal Password". I then change it to "Encrypted Password" and then change it back after it reloads and tells me the encryption is wrong. After I change it back, it works fine for about 10 minutes, after which it tells me the encryption is wrong, even though its on "Normal Password". Mad, I delete the account and start a new one. The account manager then tells me that my password is wrong, writing something like
Quote:
Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?
Seeing as I tried to do this about 50 times, I doubt I typed my password in wrong 50 times. My other account, a Gmail one with IMAP as well, works just fine. Is the IMAP address of Yahoo different now?
PS: My firewall is off. I have also installed the WebMail and the Yahoo Webmail Thunderbird Extensions.
I installed 11.2 a couple weeks ago on a machine at work, and thru YaST connected to the domain. I was then able to add a printer, and thru nautilis browse to windows computers with shares. Something changed about a week ago and I've played with everything I can think of, read lots of tutorials, and still can't make it work. I'm about ready to format and reinstall from scratch and try again, as I'm out of ideas.
So the way it was before, in nautilus if I clicked on network it would give me a list of all sorts of computers on my domain, and if I clicked on one of the windows machines it would ask me my username/password, and after I entered them, I'd be in.
Now, in nautlis if I click on network it shows me "windows network" and if I click on that it gives me a list of all sorts of workgroups and domains (or something like that). If I click on the one with my domain name, it asks username/password but it doesnt work.
I've tried leaving the domain and rejoining, I've enabled and disabled kerberos, ldap, samba, everything I can think of - although I dont think I had to change those at all from default the first time.
I dont know what I could have done between when it worked and now. I did allow some installation of updates. Shortly thereafter I noticed ssh no longer worked, and after playing with it forever I couldnt make it work, I uninstalled openssh and then reinstalled it from the repository, and it worked again. No idea why it stopped working, but maybe it's related to this domain problem, I dunno.
My main goal at this time is to be able to access windows shares from the linux machine. I don't care if I have to login to linux with my windows domain account or a local account (although all the documentation I've followed said that I should be able to login with a domain username/password too).
yesterday I installed pulseaudio and pavumeter. This morning I couldn't connect to the internet anymore. I checked the settings but couldn't see any changes. I read the post at [URL]?t=370108 and I'm going to post the outcome of the instructions here:
So at work, we host most of our clients websites on a server we have (from Lunar Pages) and I can ssh as root from work just fine, but from home, all of a sudden, I can't ssh as root anymore. I can't ssh as anyone (certain users have permission to ssh).
I can still FTP into the different sites and stuff from home, so it isn't an AFP issue (I doubled checked the deny_hosts.rules (or whatever it is) just in case).
I used to be able to ssh as root into the server from home... what could have changed? Has anyone had this problem? Being able to FTP from all IPs but only SSH from some?
Before I start a flame war, I'd like to qualify my question with...I have a boatload of ram and a VERY thin install.(CLI openSuse 11.4-64) If I'm running the most baseline, text-only-install...and the whole system install is like 2GB or less, and I have 8GB of ram (which I could easily upgrade to 16). At install time...do I really need a swap partition at all? What purpose could a swap serve if I have that much ram in such a trimmed down environment?
My server with Opensuse 11.1 doesn't boot anymore. This afternoon I've installed imagemagick over yast. After that the server still works for a couple of minutes. Then it stops working (I'm not sure if it's because of the installation). so I had to reboot it.But it never came up again. It doesn't boot anymore.I get the boot menu and can make my choice. But it doesn't matter what I choose (standard or failsagfe) the only message I get is:
I have a qmail server running binc imap since more than two years and had no problems. Recently after deleting thousands of mails the system became unstable (when opening Thunderbird I did see new mails which disappeared a few seconds later and reappeared some when... after a couple of minutes or hours). There where a few problems in my network which are now sorted. My main problem is now I cannot access the binc server anymore. When I run
Code: qmail:/var# mconnect 127.0.0.1 143 * OK Welcome to Binc IMAP Copyright (C) 2002-2005 Andreas Aardal Hanssen at 2011-06-23 18:04:39 +0000 01 LOGIN user password
[Code]....
I am sure that has not changed in the last two years and have no idea why it did not work... but before raising the thread I noticed a few mails disappeared form my server and also files created did not exist after the reboot. My server is running on a vm so I guess that is not a general problem...
To make it short, the folder /var/qmail/bin/bincimapd was not accessible by the user nor the group shown in the strace above. After modifying the access rights I can see my mails again :-) The multiple login attempts also disappeared

I have an ubuntu server with a printer plugged to it through USB. I used to set the server ip on the Printing panel to print remotelly to it, but it doesn't work anymore since I upgraded to karmic. I can see the printer in the printer panel, and I can even print a test page through the panel, but I can't print from any other application. When I come to the printing screen, the printer has the message retrieving information from printer and I can't print. I guess the cups server is working well as I can print the test page, and I used to print with hardy, looks like if the changes made in the printing panel don't have any effect on the system.
seems like I killed my softraid. First, my initial setup: 2x 1.5TB SATA disks -> raid1 with mdadm -> lvm -> multiple LVs as luks partition This worked for a while now, even though I made a bad mistake; I created the raid out of the whole disks (instead of creating partitons on them). I didnt notice because it worked...
Now one disk failed, but I could still access the other disk which I moved to another server. mdadm recognized it during boot, after vgscan --mknodes; vgchange -ay I saw the luks partitions in /dev/mapper/ and could mount them via luksOpen. Went well several times, I did not use the disk anymore to avoid killing it also.
Just today when I wanted to move the stuff to my new raid, this way wont work anymore
First of all, dmesg reports a wrong size (500G instead of 1.5T)
I use evergreen for 11.1 on a hosted server. I just did a "zypper up" and I can't boot anymore!I still have access to the server through a recovery system a bit like the openSUSE rescue. But my main mail server in on this machine, so I don't have anymore access to the evergreen mailing list (of course I can subscribe from gmail of else, but i try first here).
I can reinstall from my hosting provider, but I just missed the point that this reinstall is not from 11.1 but to 11.4, and that mean I have to reconfigure most of my service, and this takes time.is there a way I can reinstall original 11.1 base? may I stop the evergreen repo, do zypper up and be undergraded?important notice: this server use a provider kernel and lilo, not the evergreen kernel. I now have a 2.6.38 kernel next time I will try simply issuing "lilo".
every time I try to connect to the ftp server I setup i am recieving this error Response:*** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/sbin/vsftpd terminated Error:Could not connect to server

I'm trying to setup PS3 media server on my new OpenSuse 11.2 and I'm being unable to connect to the PS3. The multimedia server seems to being working ok, only it has not appear on XMB.
I've been searching on PS3 Media Server forums and try a couple of solutions regarding /etc/hosts and adding full qualified domain name of server to it, but it doesn't seems to work.
I cannot use cvs within eclipse to connect to the server, but when I use cvs in terminal everything works fine.

I am using ubuntu10.04-server 64bit AMD with fluxbox. After I ran Matlab in a shell (without GUI) the shell does not display characters anymore, but will execute any command, I just can't see the characters that I'm typing.. I use aterm and xterm, does anybody know why that is, am I missing a package?
Ubuntu 10.x servervsftp mysqlwebmin Apache2I am running the Ubuntu server on the same 192.169.x.x subnet as the PC I am using to test vsftp and webmin and Apache.I can connect to the Apache web site hosted on the Ubuntu server but I cannot connect to any other service -- i.e. port 21 or port 10000 or 3306.Netstat shows:
i am trying to send malformed string into ability ftp server in order to have some unexpected crashes. i login in into the ability ftp server on my window 7.On my virtual machine,i am working on a backtrack 4, i tried to send some string to have some unexpected crashes, but i couldn't success.here is the code:
I am merely trying to change the port for my ssh server. However it isn't changing.I edited my ssh_config file to:
Code:

When i try to connect to my server via port 443 i get a connection refused error. However when i try to connect via port 22 it connects. Since that didn't work, i tried restarting the entire server. To restate, i changed the config file and restarted ssh then the computer, however the port didn't change.Ohh and yes my router is set to port forwarding on port 443, though it doesn't matter since I'm inside the network.
In Gnome Places->Connect To Server dialog, I am having problem using the Custom Location Service Type. I enter in the URI as
Code:
smb://username:password@ipaddress/share_name
I get an pop up error message that says:
Quote:
Cannot Connect To Server. You must enter a name for the server.
Which would be fine if there was actually a place for me to enter the name which there is not. What am I doing wrong. This is the first time I have tried using the Connect To Server dialog. Normally I just use a script I wrote to mount my share in a folder on my local drive as some programs cannot access the mounted network folder. In a browser all I have to do is:
Code:
smb://ipaddress/share_name
I tried using Windows Shares, but that did not work either. It does work if I click on network and access the share that way, but some programs like firefox and a few others that I want to save a file to my network drive do not show the network unless the share is mounted in a folder. So, I wrote a script:
Just installed openldap server on a VM CentOS called 'ldapsrv', it works fine, ldapsearch returns all ldap information.
Installed openldap client on another VM CentOS called 'ldapclient1', configured it with most basic configuration, no ssl/tls etc. but ldapsearch returns error:
I've tried /etc/init.d/mysql start, and it actually starts, or at least, it doesn't error out. But when I do pgrep mysql I get nothing, and when I try to login with mysql -p as root, I get
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
None of my other logins work, either, but since pgrep mysql didn't work, it's clear that MySQL just isn't running. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling mysql-server via apt-get, but I get the same thing. The logs in /var/log/syslog show this:
Apr 11 14:31:26 /etc/init.d/mysql[9774]: #007/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed Apr 11 14:31:26 /etc/init.d/mysql[9774]: error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server
I'm no expert on DHCP. My problem is that i have a CentOS 5.5 server on which i want to install a DHCP server. I have two NICs where eth0 has access to the internet and where eth1 should act as an DHCP server.
I have installed dhcpd and this is how my dhcpd.conf file looks like.
Code:
ifconfig looks like this
Code:
When i start dhcpd on eth1 i get no error messages but when i connect any devices to eth1 they don't get any IP. I cant find anything in any logs about devices trying to get an IP address. I dont have any firewall rules in iptables.
I need to setup a Linux VPN server at work for resources' sharing, I currently have a server running CentOS 5.4, and tried endless tutorials on the web, but to no avail, and can't find where the logs are kept for the VPN server to check where the error is. But all my attempts to try to connect keep failing.
