View 2 RepliesI have an anime series (about 24 episodes, each 325-350 megabytes each) encoded in .mkv format, high quality (1280x720). It took quite some time to download this series, however no matter what I do, I cannot get the files to play correctly under Ubuntu. I have tried several different media players, including VLC, Movie player, and Mplayer, and none work correctly. VLC will play the first 15-20 seconds fine, and then stop the video and go back to the beginning. I however, do realize that my laptop isn't high-spec, and isn't really built for HD video playback (1.6ghz single core athlon CPU, 4 gigs of ram, integrated radeon x1250 graphics chip.)
I can play these files on my system and have them play correctly? (Without lag or stuttering?) Also the anime is subtitled, so I would want to make sure the subs work correctly, and preferably have the audio in sync with the video.
what drivers must be in our system to play audio files? in windows, i installed device drivers?but when i install fedora12 ,automatically it detects all i think.after the "yum update" command , audio, video everything is working properly..how it is possible?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI need to play or preferably convert (i.e. to MP3) old SNG files, which contain voice records. From what I could find, it's basically a MIDI created by synthetiser. I think it was recorded by some ancient VLC player. I failed so far to play it on anything I could download.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried to play mp3 files with sox play.
The result I get is:
play FAIL formats: no handler for file extension `mp3'
I have installed all libsox packages I could find, including libsox-fmt-mp3 and libmad0.
sox -h though, gives me:
AUDIO FILE FORMATS: 8svx aif aifc aiff aiffc al amb amr-nb amr-wb anb au avi avr awb cdda cdr cvs cvsd cvu dat dvms f32 f4 f64 f8 ffmpeg flac fssd gsm gsrt hcom htk ima ircam la lpc lpc10 lu m4a m4b maud mp4 mpg nist ogg prc raw s1 s16 s2 s24 s3 s32 s4 s8 sb sds sf sl sln smp snd sndfile sndr sndt sou sox sph sw txw u1 u16 u2 u24 u3 u32 u4 u8 ub ul uw vms voc vorbis vox wav wavpcm wmv wv wve xa
PLAYLIST FORMATS: m3u pls
AUDIO DEVICE DRIVERS: alsa ao oss ossdsp pulseaudio
(no mp3 mentioned there).
The reason I try to play mp3 files with sox is that I wanted to play a playlist with different formats and feed it to ices2 through a pipe, ie :
sox Musik/storlista.pls -t raw - | ices2 ices-pcm.xml sox
FAIL formats: no handler for file extension `mp3'

from what i've heard, VLC doesn't support multi-threading, whatever that means, and so plays MKV files with much more CPU use.is there any alternative? i know windows as COREAVC, but i don't believe that software is available for linux.

As a side note I did remove PulseAudio and install Esound then removed Esound and installd PulseAudio again, hopefully I did it right, because I get system sounds and no problem with music or ..... for example.
the problem is Amarok cant play these files so i dont have them in collection till i dont give here password, so amarok must again Scan all the files (about 6000 songs) and it takes long and i want to know any way to skip this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy audio is working on my recent koala install. System wav files play without a problem.
However, when I open a terminal to play my own wav files I get an error. (I encountered this problem merely by trying to setup an incoming mail notification with CheckGmail....)
The command: aplay /home/saskms/Music/test.wav
The error: aplay: test_wavefile:807: can't play WAVE-file format 0x0002 which is not PCM or FLOAT encoded
I think I have installed all the necessary gstreamer options. I am guessing that maybe I just need to re-rip the WAV file into a different format. I also tried doing searches on the error, but yielded no results.
