Fedora :: What Drivers Must Be In System To Play Audio Files?
Nov 23, 2010
what drivers must be in our system to play audio files? in windows, i installed device drivers?but when i install fedora12 ,automatically it detects all i think.after the "yum update" command , audio, video everything is working properly..how it is possible?
I'm running Fedora and Gnome on a laptop and I'd like to play an audio file. I installed xmms and the mp3 plugin via yum, and started xmms amd tried to play the file. The progress bar advances as if the file is playing, but there's no sound in my headphones. I do have gnome volume slider bar set to the highest value. I tried running alsamixer and the volume is set to the highest level (however +/- causes alsamixer to exit, and not change the volume level like the F1-Help page says). What can I do?I tried the Gnome filesystem browser and clicked on mp3 or wav file which brings up the totem music player. Again, the progress bar advances as if the file is being played, but no sound.
What is the best/easiest way to get ALL multimedia codecs both free nd non free so i can play all types of audio an video files? Like xvid quicktime, avi windows video files etc etc
Can anyone tell me how to play dual audio mkv in Ubuntu??I tried Mediaplayer, but it plays only the english audio and not the dubbed audio?? Is this any small settings issue or do i need an different player to play such file?
I am trying to play the following real audio file but it does not play right, can anyone else hear it correctly if so what codec have you installed??I have also tried other real audio files from the same website that also do not play correctly.I am running maverick ubuntu 10.10.
Is it at all fathomable to play .qcp files on Ubuntu 11.04? I REALLY want to... I recorded this totally amazing trumpet player, and I need to play this audio to learn more.
"There is no application installed for RIFF audio files." Is what I get when I double click it.
WAIT! VLC does it! OMG YAY! With skips in the audio How can I convert to mp3
Download this: [URL]
It converts any mobile file to a file of your choice, it worked PERFECTLY for my .qcp file, converted it from qcp to mp3 with no problem, no skips, full file.
not able to play any AV files. i have installed 10.10 on my desktop,i even installed VLC player, but if i run any audio, video file am not able to hear anything, even though the player volume and system volume is maximum..I am unable to hear even the boot up sound that we get hear when we login into ubuntu.
I do a bit of script writing, and part of this involves reading the text aloud and reacting to audio cues. What I'd love to do is set up a method of playing audio files at whim based on a general shortcut. So, say if I pressed <Super>C1, I could play ~/Music/cue1.mp3, <Super>C2 would be ~/Music/cue2.ogg etc.
Currently the closest I've got is using the terminal and a modified .bashrc to play via VLC's ncurses.
Code: alias cue1="vlc -I ncurses ./Music/cue1.mp3"
Obviously this isn't very near to what I want. Entering a Keyboard Shortcut using the usual methods (xbindkeys, gconf-editor, the KeyShort Preferences GUI) to run
Code: vlc -I ncurses ./Music/cue1.mp
doesn't play anything. Is it possible to launch these kinds of commands as shortcuts, or am I hoping for too much? My Google trawls have been pretty fruitless. I'm running Lucid, btw.
I went to the record store a couple of days ago and bought some CDs. I was able to pop in the first one and rip it no problem. Then, I put in a different CD and I have been greeted with all sorts of nothing. I put the original CD back in and I get nothing. Some example error messages....
When I open Sound Juicer, I am told: "Sound Juicer could not read the track listing on this CD. Reason: Cannot access CD: The specified location is not mounted"
When I open Kaffeine: "Cannot find input plugin for MRL [cdda:/]"
When I try to view the disc in dolphin:"Device does not have read permissions for this account. Check the read permissions on the device."
I have had F11 installed for over a week. When I play a video or a sound file it plays fast. All the audio is whinny and voices are high like its playing to fast. If i match the time it does play about 6 seconds fast.
Whereas former 2.4.0 can. I just find that audacious says it cannot decode *.ape after upgrade from repository. Here are what I installed relates to audacious and its plug-ins,
i am a newbie in Linux. i have installed fedora 10.. whenever i try to play audio/video files in totem, it says additional plugins are required..MPEGAV-1MPEGAV-2is missing.
I cant play mp4 files with dual audio and dual subtitles. I am using a laptop with intel graphics. I've already tried mplayer, vlc, and smplayer. But still the files wont play properly. I been jumping all over the forums reading and trying anything i come up to. What do I need to do? oh btw I am using Ubuntu 10.04.
I have an anime series (about 24 episodes, each 325-350 megabytes each) encoded in .mkv format, high quality (1280x720). It took quite some time to download this series, however no matter what I do, I cannot get the files to play correctly under Ubuntu. I have tried several different media players, including VLC, Movie player, and Mplayer, and none work correctly. VLC will play the first 15-20 seconds fine, and then stop the video and go back to the beginning. I however, do realize that my laptop isn't high-spec, and isn't really built for HD video playback (1.6ghz single core athlon CPU, 4 gigs of ram, integrated radeon x1250 graphics chip.)
I can play these files on my system and have them play correctly? (Without lag or stuttering?) Also the anime is subtitled, so I would want to make sure the subs work correctly, and preferably have the audio in sync with the video.
I want to listen to this audio file: [URL] but my real player 11.0.0.4028 gold desn play it, it says that there is a codec 28_8 missing, I go to relaplayer page, download the last release available for linux systems, but the message is the same : audio codec missing and doesn't play the audio.
I havev tried to play the audio with smplayer (not luck), vlc can play the audio but the pause button doesn't work so I have to listen the entire audio all the time I stop it playing. Is there any audio player capable od reproducing in the proper way this audio in ubuntu? No one of my video players totem, smplayer, realplayer or vlc are capable of playing this video: [URL]
dell inspiron e1505 3.2 gb ram 1.86 ghz intel core duo ati x1400 gfx opensuse 11.4 kde 32 bit.
okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.

I downloaded the latest version of DirectX and installed it through Wine. It seemed to work, but whenever I try to play Akane's new Death Note game, it says 'Failed to initialize DirectX Audio' and closes the window. How can I fix this problem? I need my fan service!
When I installed the latest version of Open Office in Fedora 10 I was no longer able to play ASX Video Files. Removing open office does not fix the problem. Also reinstalling mplayer and the gecko media players doesn't fix the problem.
I am trying to get avi files to play; I've managed to get the sound, but no video I tried google-searching but seem to have broken something else - the "package manager".
I read the instructions [URL] however, on one of the instructions I get this:-
Code: [root@bgrlaptop badger_fruit]# yum -y install gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-ugly xine-lib-extras-nonfree Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/mirrorlist?repo=free-fedora-11&arch=i386 error was
[Code]....
how I can recover this and get libdvdcss and support for AVI (oh and MPEG) files?
I need this pretty urgently, otherwise I may have to convert individual files to some other format.I use totem player, it says "The following plugin is required : Windows media speech decoder" but not able to find it any configured software source. Therefore, it plays the file without sound.(attachment 1)I have vlc player, when I try to play wmv, it plays the files but again without sound. (attachment 2).Same with kplayer.
