Oct 23, 2010I recently upgraded to 10.10 and installed ktorrent at the same time. After the upgrade whenever I try to open up and file or folder for that matter totem tries to open them. Totem is acting like the default app for all the files on my computer. I tried uninstalling an reinstalling both totem and ktorrent and I still have the same problem.

Also some pics in Firefox have inverted colors. I doubt they are related though. Im running 10.10 and have been for about 2 weeks. I am completely new to linux prior to downloading this.

Share name - "admin-public"
Everyone can access it.
Everyone can create new docs and edit / save them.
BUT - only the originator can edit / save.
Everyone else has read only access!

I can not create a desktop item which brings up my Python docs in a browser ? This is frustrating to say the least. What has Fedora decided I am doing wrong now ?

Apr 22, 2011I am an experienced Ubuntu Linux user, but the fact is that I need some help. I recently set up a "venerable"(Pentium 4, single-core, 2.4 GHz, 32-bit architecture) machine with Ubuntu Linux version 10.04 server-i386. My objective is to set up a "kiosk" directory on it which everyone(including guests) on my SOHO network can read from and write to.
I have designated the directory "kiosk"(no surprise there) and defined it in smb.conf. It is directly under the "home" directory, as path = /home/kiosk and set the file permissions as drwxrwxrwx or, if you prefer, like chmod 777. I have a separate machine, System Librarian running Ubuntu Linux 10.04 Desktop amd64 on the network(via Wi-Fi) and a second separate machine running Windows XP Pro, with SP3, also on the network this time via Fast EtherNet(100 Mbs).
From the Linux machine, I can read a complete file list, but I cannot "open" an RTF or an ODT doc in the kiosk directory. When I try to do so, OpenOffice.org simply "opens" a blank, untitled document. JPEG and PNG files in the kiosk directory open just fine. I cannot write to the kiosk directory from this machine, either.
From the Windows XP machine, by contrast, I can list files, open RTF and ODT docs(using Microsoft WordPad) and write file to it without any apparent problems. The file format on the server(Iguanodon) is ext4. Obviously, I have made some sort of mistake in setting this share up,

Oct 26, 2010after updating my system I can't start VirtualBox-OSE anymore. I get the error:

Jun 18, 2009I've just installed F11 (x86_64) on my computer. I've been using x86_64 since Fedora 7 and normally I use a manually installed i386 firefox/thunderbird. This time I've tried to do the same using Fireox 3.5b4 but I got many troubles. The last error I got is:

I've tried to use the i386 version of thunderbird (2.0.0.9) but I got this error: ./thunderbird-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory but on the repository there is just the libstdc++-4.4.0-4.i586 lib.

Aug 23, 2010Running Fedora 12 (32 bit). 2.6.32.14-127.fc12.i686.PAE #1. Trying to open Amarok or digiKam generates the following error:- error while loading shared libraries: libQtWebKit.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Package exists in /usr/lib. Above 2 are the only applications affected that I've noticed to date. Googling indicates possible problem caused by recent flashplayer upgrade but I'm not sure.

Nov 3, 2010I work for a company that makes portable devices running Linux and I was recently asked to make the underlying file system read-only for "security" purposes. Since the distribution is based on LinuxFromScratch, I know that very little writing happens at run time. So, even if the device runs on a usb flash device, I doubt that putting the root file system RO will be that beneficial. I am actually more concerned about a process actually breaking because it cannot open a file in RW mode than a process going rogue and filling the root file system with log files, etc. I'd really like to ear what kind of advantages disadvantages there really is with read-only file-systems.

In the choice of changing the opening program from mousepad to something else, it says search and allows to navigate to find a program, but I cant find emacs anywhere not in etc/ or elsewhere. I have two files first one is called client, second one is called server I am using named pipes to sent a message from client to the other file called server in client I used mknod() to create the two named pipes,one for read,one for write and created new thread in client using fork() spawned a child process that executed the server file both named pipes are opened the client file got the message from the user and sent it through the named pipes to the server file when the server receives the message , it needs to verfify it is correct in the server file, a local file descriptor is created to read and send this verifing message when it is not correct but I am getting an OPEN() error when I tried to open this shared local array buff and attach it to a file descriptor where the message is kept why do I get this error in server file

Dec 19, 2010You may know the Humble Indie Pack 2, which is a set of crossplatform indie video games. There's one game in the bundle that doesn't offer a 64bit build and therefore it fails to load. It's called Braid and that's what you get when you try to run it: $ ./braid ./braid: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Of course the 64bit libs for OpenGL and the propitiatory nvidia drivers are installed, but the game asks for the 32bit ones, at least to my understanding. I do know that why can install 32bit libraries on a 64 bit linux system (we do that for the sake of crappy Adobe Flash), but I don't know where to find these libs (searching the repo with keywords like .i586 or ia32 led me nowhere).
