Ubuntu :: Can't Connect To Office Jabber/xmpp Server

May 19, 2011

I'm not able to connect to my work's internal xmpp server. I've confirmed with co-workers that my settings are correct. They are able to connect but I am not.

In the debug window, I get a large number of messages, though none of them show up unless I set the logging level to 'debug'. Specifically nothing shows up if I set the log level to "error."

The last message I get is

on_connection_ready: got error: WOCKY_AUTH_ERROR_STREAM (#: host-unknown:

I tried a Google search on "WOCKY_AUTH_ERROR_STREAM" and got zero results. That's right: ZERO! I suddenly feel like I'm using a Mac!

Again, my co-workers are able to connect (though I haven't spoken to any fellow ubuntu/empathy users as they are either on vacation or in the field with me and using their blackberry) but Spark (puke!) and IM+ work fine.

I've been trying to find out which jabber/XMPP clients out there automatically sign messages with openpgp you send but documentation on that has been spotty. Could you tell me a. if you know any clients that can easily sign and encrypt all outgoing messages and b. should I worry if a client is only able to sign presence and not messages?

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.10 - Cannot Connect To Office WiFi (WPA)

Jan 4, 2011

I am running 10.10 on a Toshiba NB255 netbook. Wireless works find for me at home and worked last week at a hotel. At home I just use WEP, and my office network uses WPA. I can connect just fine from my work laptop but not from this netbook. The network shows up fine in the network manager and it asks for the WPA password, but doesn't establish a connection. Every once in a while it will say it is connected and has full strength but I can't ping anything, and within a minute or so it drops again. IIRC yesterday it connected via wireless and actually worked for maybe a minute before dropping at it hasn't worked since. Like I said, this has worked on other wireless networks.

Here is some output from dmesg:

Ubuntu :: Connect Open Office To Remote MySQL

Aug 3, 2010

I have several ecommerce websites and would like to be able to connect Open Office DIRECTLY to the site databases and do simple mail merging on envelopes. The problem is OO appears to be file based. I read a thread suggesting to remove the Ubuntu version of OO and install directly from their site. This is my problem:There's no wizard. The readmes included in their archive speak to a more experienced crowd. I THINK I'm just supposed to uninstall the existing one, then unzip the new OO to a folder? That doesn't sound right though because that does not load dependencies.

1. Is a re-install really the correct way to access remote MySQL databases?

2. Would upgrading to 10.04 give me the ability?

Server :: Server Configuration For Small Office Server, Which Smtp, Pop Imap Server And Backup?

Apr 2, 2010

I have installed a linux server in my office to run 16 machines. Its main use will be a internal mail server but will be also running websites.

I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 server x64 and have got apache running.

I am looking for the simplest more robust solution for smtp, pop3 and imap. I have only ever used qmail before and found it a pain to configure and its getting old so I though I should probably try something new. I have not much experience with running pop3 or imap on linux so would love a suggestion on that.

I use Karmic 64 bit and have installed Guarddog. When i try to fire up empathy and gtalk, network connection is refused. Clearly, I need to allow a protocol in guarddog. Gtalk uses (I believe) XMPP - which is not listed in Guarddog.

Ubuntu Networking :: Fresh Karmic Instal Cannot Connect To Office Internet

Feb 4, 2010

After trialling ubuntu on my home comp, and getting brilliant results, i've now migrated my work computer too. Now, i can't connect to the internet or office network. I'm on a small office wired network. When i was on XP all the settings were on 'utomatic' - didn't need to input an IP, DNS, subnet etc. Now i Can't even ping the router.I've browsed around various other threads and can't find a working solution. I've tried inputting various settings in ubuntu connection settings, but still cannot get it working. (was hoping it would be automatic, as it was on my home comp).

Just created a new connection in XP).I have tried using StrongSwan and xl2tpd on Karmic without success.PPPd never gets launched. Ubuntu :: Kopete Bugs Appearing After Adding Facebook Chat Using XMPP?

Feb 17, 2010

A number of Kopete bugs have appeared since I added Facebook chat with XMPP/Jabber this morning. Once I added it, Kopete took every regular & meta contact with a Facebook chat address and removed it from all the groups. Also, metacontacts were renamed to the name used on Facebook. This would not be a huge problem because I could simply move the contacts into groups and rename them, but every time Kopete is closed and re-opened it reverts back to how it was.

Kopete also forgets if I delete groups, because when I re-open the program they're back again. But those groups aren't related to the new Facebook Kopete account. It seems to forget all changes I make when the application is closed.

Security :: IPTables Layered Chains - Create Rules For Certain Services Like Xmpp / Web

Jan 16, 2010

I want to simplify some of my rules, so I want to create rules for certain services like xmpp, web, etc. since some of them use multiple ports, and I toggle them on/off a lot. Can I simply put the jump to rule clauses in the Input chain, and once the sub chains run, does it return to the input chain after the jump to rule clause? I want to do this so I don't have a ton of rules in the input chain. I think that if I simply make a list of all the rules to jump to in the input chain, it will work itself through all of them until it finds a matching filter in one of them correct?

Ubuntu :: Empathy Jabber Breaks After Disconnecting

Apr 30, 2010

I was excited to use empathy in 10.04; however, both in the Beta and the Full Release I experience the following. (Note: I'm using 64 bit.)Setup 'Wizard' adds GTalk and Facebook Chat just fine.Manually add a IRC account (can't do that from wizard).Manually add a SIP account.Enjoy that it's working, and think that the full release fixed the bug.Disconnect

Then the next day.Set status as available.Get an ambiguous 'network-error' for GTalk and Facebook.Disable all accounts.Restart empathy, enable GTalk, get same error.Delete all accounts, restart system, go through account 'wizard', add GTalk, same error.Upgrade to dev version of Empathy, notice it's no longer in the nice messaging applet, but GTalk connects.Disconnect/Reconnect - same error.

Anyone else having this problem? Seems something is breaking with Jabber on Empathy. But I can't find any related information. I'll post logs when I boot into the 10.04 installation (which I was hoping to switch to, but not so sure right now.)

Ubuntu Servers :: Start MySQL Before Jabber On Boot

May 3, 2010

Currently when the system boots, It boots jabberd2 before mysql. So jabber fails. Then, later mysql is loaded. I either want to force jabber to load mysql first, or make the system boot mysql first. I've tried changing /etc/init.d/jabberd2 to say "# Required-Start:
mysql $network $named $remote_fs"...
However, insserv says that mysql service has to be enabled... so I assume that's an issue because mysql is an upstart script.

QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?

FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.

Ubuntu Servers :: Set Automatically Disconnect Inactive Jabber Clients?

I'm running a small ejabberd server on a LAN. Everything works fine out of the box except that when certain users disconnect they remain listed as online.
Specifically, Linux users who suspend their computers with their client still open are still listed as online. This is not the case for Windows or Mac clients.
I did some research and fount out that it has something to do with the TCP keepalive timeouts on the server. However I cannot figure out how to set those times.

Fedora :: Jabber Broken In Kopete In FC13?

May 26, 2010

I have just updated to FC 13 (64 bit), and there seems to be a problem with Jabber in Kopete. I use this to connect to the google talk servers. In FC 12 this was not a problem. However, now I recieve a message "Cannot load the Jabber protocol plugin." when trying to add a Jabber account in kopete. This happens on two separate recently upgraded machines.

I suspect the kdenetwork package shipped with FC 13 is broken in this respect.

EDIT: Updating to the kde packages from the kde-testing repository fixes this, so it looks like the package is indeed broken.

The incoming messages are received well. But the messages which are sent to others - do not reach them. His Jabber-client is configured as others'. I tried Pidgin 1:2.7.3-1ubuntu3.2 (which is used in our company) and Gajim 0.13.4-1ubuntu1 .What can it be? And what should I do?I compared the openssl version on my computer and on problem computer. I essentially need to lock down our network so that i can monitor what everyone is doing on the Internet and block it if needed. it doesn't have to be web based or have a bunch of gui's, im fine with command line, configs and log files, but it would be nice.

I'm interested in commercial products as well as long as they are linux based.
