I was trying to install a program from source. I cd'd to the directory then ./configure'd. It was configuring fine until this.

Since I've installed opensuse 11.4 instead of 11.3, I cannot install .rpm packages nor execute updates. I get the following message: "There has been a (probably temporarily) when connecting to the software source/repository" (own translation) details: Media source [URL] does not contain the desired medium So, probably there is something wrong with my software sources. Could anyone give a suggestion to repair this since I'm not a linux expert and would like to install new software on my newly updated machine.
I am trying to install CentOS guest on CentOS 5.3 host. I have installed all the requirements for the same. As per documentation, only NETWORK install is supported if the guest is to be installed as paravirtalized.I copied the CentOS DVD in /home directory with folder name centos52 and exported it through NFS. When I run Virtual machine manager and give installation path as: nfs:<ip address of host>:/home/centos52 , the system while trying to create the storage fails and throws following error:Unable to complete install: 'Invalid install location: Mounting location nfs://<ip address of host>:/home/centos52 failed'
Is there any open source virtual machine so i can study the source in order to create my own? i'm gonna write my own, so it doesNT matter if license does not allow further development of the code.

I just installed ubuntu server 9.04. Now i wanna install GUI on that such as Xinit, and others, theni stuck because i wannna install it without connection (from source / offline).
Since the time I have moved to Ubuntu..I am finding it difficult to do work on images.... since in Windows I was using Photoshop.. But I tried running photoshop using wine and stuff but either didn't work or caused a lot of problems. So I found a new solution GIMP that is very close to Photoshop but not exactly like that. Now I got another solution that is some modification to GIMP called GIMP shop.
I downloaded the Linux version and I got a file gimp-2.2.8.tar.bz2 I was always confused in how I can install these source... there is no help on their website. installing these source files.... since I need to do many images manipulation and editing for my work.
I saw, there is a new OpenSSL v 1.0.0 and I wanna ask how to install it. I have this server now Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.10-2ubuntu6.4 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8k
And I try to install by reading the Install file in the package but I still have 0.9.8k.
I am wonder if somebody could take the time to teach me to install or compile a program from source.I have downloaded ZSNES from sourceforge but cannot figure out how to install it from the command prompt or using the package manager.
I attempted to install from source. Following the instructions on the gnome-do website verbatim, I received several errors. Gnome-do was installed (in Gnome menu), but would not run. Realizing I was over my head and was out of time, I ran "sudo make uninstall", restarted my machine for good measure, then installed gnome-do from my software manager. It still won't run. Running gnome-do from terminal gives the same error as when I attempted to install from source:
Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Could not read add-in description at Mono.Addins.Addin.get_Description () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Mono.Addins.AddinSessionService.CheckHostAssembly (System.Reflection.Assembly asm) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
[Code]....
I used purged gnome-do and plugins, restarted, and reinstalled, but am experiencing the same problem.
I downloaded this programs source and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to install it. I assume it is python source? I tried downloading the debian file but could not figure out how to install it aswell. I downloaded the software from [URL]
I want to look at Red Hat 9 source code on the same PC I installed RH9 on. Yes, I know that is old. The CD package has 3 source CDs and each has a key. I try using: rpm -i package_name.rpm
and I get warning saying NO_KEY. Also, where is the source installed?
I use Ubuntu Server 10.04 and would like to share my printer from it. I have a Canon Pixia MP270 and I can download the source drivers from URL...There is also a deb file driver download tested on ubuntu 9.04 but I fails to install.Im not worried about the scanner option on the printer I just want to be able to share the printer to my Windows 7 PC.
How do I install the source drivers?I presume once its installed I can share the printer through webmin and install it on my Windows 7 machine?
I'm new to linux and I'm using ubuntu 10.10 since it relished. I've download utorrent-server-3.0-25053.tar.gz. I configured intltool-0.41.1.tar.gz and libgraph-1.0.1.tar.gz using that very command installed them successfully.
As far as I can tell, I have the proprietary AMD drivers installed.
I want to install the open source drivers instead to see if I can get better performance.
According to this site, I have to install the PPA to my software sources as instructed here. I've done that. But how do I actually install the open source drivers?
Ubuntu 9.10 is the running system. I need to install a library (LibRaw-0.8.5) from source code as the version I need is not present in the repositories. So far, I managed to extract the .tar.gz, but now I have no clue how to install it and make it work with DigiKam... I tried the sudo make install stuff, but it seems I don't do it right or what
I just downloaded the blueman source file to get bluetooth tethering in my linux so that I can use internet (that's the only medium for me) but i dont know how to install from source code. We all know we can install a linux system such as Fedora 10 and use it. Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ? To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.
KeePassX is a fork of KeePass; the outstanding open source application for securely storing passwords. I use it for all my accounts and passwords for all my machines and customers. I ran into quite a bit of trouble trying to build it from source as it requires the Qt and Xorg headers to compile.
The following are the steps to build and install keepassx from source on Fedora 14
In what directory do I need to install a tarball containing API libraries in order to import the libraries for programming?I've been trying for a few hours now to get started on my homework - but I need the GLUT api for OpenGL. After attempting to compile a simple test program, I got the error Code: glut.h: No such file or directory
First off, I'm not even really sure if OpenGL wasn't included in the original install or if I even need it when programming with GLUT (I truelly am clueless, lol). But after reading as much as I could, I've only been able to deduce that I need to install the API libraries somewhere on my disc.So I found the tarball, and there are special instructions for installing a linux machine. I found instructions saying to install it in the directory /usr/lib/ but is that right for the SUSE distro? Also, if anybody knows anything about GLUT/OpenGL programming + openSUSE11.2.
