I opened KPackageKit in my new Fedora system. I want to get wine. The description says "A Windows 16/32/64 bit emulator". But wine stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator.

Is there a way I can run Mac (OS X) programs on a Linux (Ubuntu) system in a virtual machine like either Wine or VMware (maybe that is the wrong term) for Windows programs?
Specifically, I want to develop an iphone app and I would like to use the simulator and IDE "Xcode" provided by Apple but they only will run on Mac.

I installed 11.04 after Windows 7. when the GRUB boot menu starts up there is an option for Win 7 boot but it will not boot windows. When that option is selected the screen changes colour for 2 seconds and then reverts to the GRUB menu. Ubuntu boots fine.I downloaded the Boot Info Script and ran it, the results are

I've had enough with Windows and decided to try Ubuntu, I'm slowly getting used to it a bit and finding my feet a little but my big problem is: I have an Iphone and I'm only keeping Windows currently as I can't get iTunes to work on Ubuntu. I've looked online for 'how to' vids ect and I have found many things yet none of them tell me in simple terms how to do it. Do I need to run a emulator of a mac os? Run iTunes in Wine?

Most of the really popular packages (Skype, ooVoo, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc) are available for Microsoft and Apple platforms but not Linux/Ubuntu. Wine doesn't seem to bring much joy for running these reliably. So my question is - is there a Mac emulator? That would seem a good way to go since apple also use a unix variant and presumably the emulator would be a lot more compatible/reliable?

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1501. The other day I installed a super nintendo emulator (ZSNES) to play around, but decided I didn't like it and cannot unistall it.I am an administrator on this machine. I have tried uninstalling from the synaptic package manager (crash) and the ubuntu software center. In the ubuntu software center, the error I get is:
Code:
installArchives() failed: dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/available' near line 2 package 'xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse':
value for `status' field not allowed in this context
Is there something I'm not doing right? Forgive the newbieness, as always

Is there any 32 bit operating system emulator (like a bridge) that I could easily use those packages or software that can be installed on a 32 bit operating system easier? Something easier than emulating another Ubuntu using Virtualbox.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a CDROM emulator that runs on Linux. I want to emulate this configuration:
[CDROM DRIVE]----USB CABLE----[COMPUTER UNDER TEST]
Where [COMPUTER UNDER TEST] is a computer that boots from a physical CD inserted into the [CDROM DRIVE]. Only instead of the [CDROM DRIVE] I want the following configuration:
[CD IMAGE BUILD MACHINE]-----USB CABLE-----[COMPUTER UNDER TEST].
I want to build an ISO image on the [CD IMAGE BUILD MACHINE] and have some sort of USB CDROM emulator running on it to serve up the ISO image to the [COMPUTER UNDER TEST] as though it was talking to the [CDROM DRIVE]. Does this exist? If it does, I can't find it. I want to do this so I can test out bootable CDs without burning a lot of coasters.

I want to raise an issue that needs some expert to help explain. As we know, Windows software can be run from GNU/Linux using an emulator. In that case, can some windows-borne virus or malware get an opportunity to infect your GNU/Linux system through the emulator?
I myself am switching to GNU/Linux because of the windows viruses. However, I still have many important database software that can only be done in windows environment. Currently all my windows stuff is quarantined in a separate partition(And I'm sure it contains some virus). I am worrying using an emulator will open the Pandora's box.

I recently moved and didnt have internet. Out of a fit of boredom i decided to get me Ubuntu 10.10 disk and dual boot. My laptop has a SD slot in the front of it that has never been used so i decided that itd be cool to have ubuntu on an SD card that i could boot any time. I used the default installer to install it onto the SD card instead of using the Universal USB Installer (i imagine this is where i went wrong). It installed and everything works fine and when i boot up it lets me choose between Linux and Windows when the SD card is inserted. When it is not i get this screen http://imgur.com/gg63v. The only really problem is me worrying that the sd card will be lossed or get broke and i will no longer be able to access Windows. Is there anyway i can set the windows boot loader back t the default bootloader (i think this is what need to be done i may be completely wrong>

i have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a pre installed windows 7 system. Ubuntu is working really well but the only problem is that when I try to boot into windows,
I get the windows sign and then I get a black screen and windows does not load. It seems to be an easy problem to solve because I can actually boot windows 7 in
safe mode with no problems at all! The problem is there when I try to boot windows 7 normally. To be honest I only need windows for a project that uses MSQL server.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60 with Nvidia GeForce 8200M graphics card. When I first installed Windows 7 followed by Karmic in dual boot I could boot into both OS. Now when I try to boot into Windows, it displays the Windows logo and then drops back to the grub menu. It may have started happening after Windows 7 installed updates. I tried reinstalling both Windows and Karmic again and it again worked initially but now Windows no longer boots. Does anyone have any suggestions about what may be causing this or how I can fix the problem without reinstalling?

I have some ISO, UDF, and IMG files on my Windows partition that I would like to mount in Fedora so that I can run it as if it were a CD. In Windows, I used Magic Disk to do this. I searched the forums and found posts that told how to do it from the CLI, but I would like to do it from the GUI.
I am running Fedora 13 with Gnome.

It would be great if there was a terminal emulator application that used SDL.
Basically all I want to do is open a terminal, however, this is on an embedded device, and the only form of output available to me is the linux framebuffer (or ssh/serial, but I want to use the LCD). I have SDL installed already.
Actually, if there is an application that uses the framebuffer device directly, that would be fine too. I just think its odd that there are so many terminal emulators already, but none of them use SDL.

I have a Gretag-Macbeth Eye-One monitor calibration tool that (along with the Epson printer calibration tools) I use on my Windows machine to get W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G. color photography printing. Am curious as to IF the thing can be run under Ubuntu (using 10.04). Know that it will have to be run in Wine or some emulator. has any one done this? And how was it accomplished AND (most importantly) DOES IT WORK? This is NOT one of those "I gotta get this working" things. just that I WOULD like to calibrate the monitors on the Ubuntu machines I have.

I am doing a wine gaming experiment on my laptop with no CD drive. On windows I would use daemon tools or power iso to create a virtual CD drive, which would allow me to play my games without a CD. I have a USB CD drive, but there seems to be a problem either with the games recognizing it or with wine properly linking it, because it doesn't work either. I don't want to experiment with cracks and no CD patches because I worry that they will break functionality with wine on my system.
I searched the software center and there are a lot of iso mounters, but none of them create a virtual CD/DVD drive, which I need to fool the exe into working properly. What software should I use? Should I use daemon tools lite in Wine or a native linux app?
