I keep getting notified about the update to 11.04.
Is there any point in doing this if Meerkat works fine?
Will the upgrade delete my existing programs and or settings in things like i8kmon, etc.?
I was just wondering how long I have to upgrade to 11.04 until Maverick Meerkat is EOL. I have talked to other people, and they say to wait about a month until after the release to fix all bugs and stuff. Is this a good Idea? Or should I update now and just get it over with?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded this system 3 or 4 times from Lucid to Meerkat without any problems. After a nasty update to my Natty installation I have re-installed Lucid and am upgrading to Meerkat, then on to Natty again. However when I try to upgrade I am getting the error below.

I'm trying to upgrade netatalk to the latest version because my Time Machine gets corrupted when the volume reaches its max capacity. How do I do it? I uninstalled netatalk, downloaded the latest package, made configure, make, make install (without any errors, just some warnings), but netatalk doesn't seem to run. I can't connect to the shares. If I install netatalk 2.1.2 via synaptic everything starts to work again. How to upgrade netatalk to the latest version on ubuntu 10.10?

I followed the link, and installed flash from APT source. In the software centre it is listed as installed. However, still cannot view flash videos.i have tried rebooting too.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus K60 laptop with the Athlon chipset. I had wireless working just fine under Lucid. But after upgrading to Meerkat, I can't get my password to be recognized. The router connection is seen without any difficulty, but the WPA password is rejected every time. I've rechecked it, of course, and also checked that it works in the Windows partition on the same machine. I'm using wicd and madwifi, recompiled for the -35 kernel. I currently use Karmic Koala (9.10) and want to upgrade to Maverick Meerkat (10.10). The thing is that Update Manager allows me to upgrade only to 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) but I cannot upgrade to Lucid Lynx because of a bug which freezes my keyboard and mouse. Also, upgrading first to 10.04 and then to 10.10 is quite time consuming. Can I upgrade directly to 10.10 from 9.10 without 10.04 acting as a mediator?

I want to upgrade to Meerkat from Lucid but am unable to find the upgrade in my Package Manager.I have been receiving and installing regular updates recently so I don't think there is any problem with receiving notice of updates other than the Meerkat update.Did notice that my packages have not been updated in 46 days.how to update the packages if it is.

update-manager -d is different to linux mint so I can't go the traditional ubuntu way of upgrading.
Can I at least convert to ubuntu 10.04 and then from that; upgrade to maverick meerkat?
If I woulda known it'd be this hard to try the new stuff out I woulda just stayed with ubuntu the whole time. Linux Mint is still cool anyway.
I recently upgraded from Lucid Lynx to Maverick Meerkat and my OpenOffice.org Impress presentations' sound is not working. I don't have any issues affecting sound in other applications.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWell over the weekend I took the plunge and upgraded. All was fine with Lucid. Well the upgrade was surprisingly straight forward. But, yep there is always a but. I though it had screwed up my samba totally, but no it hasn't. It is working just fine. I use firestarter to tweak my firewall, turn it off and all is fine.
I have told firestarter to open my local network, with a 10.0.0.1/24 (I can never recall is that right?) but it still ain't working. Have router doing firewall duties too, so not that bothered, but would like to know how to fix it. Before I upgrad my webserver box too.
Decided to try Meerkat. Looks great from the USB. With Lucid installed on Dell Optiplex with Windows XP - worked out ok.Installed Maverick Meerkat from USB and now no OS at all. I only get a prompt to re-try booting or to enter set-up.I installed Meerkat to the existing Lucid partitions, a / and /home partition, but I'm not even getting as far as grub-menu at boot.In the first attempt the installer installed grub to sda, (the hdd), and that didn't work, so I tried re-installing with a separate /boot, (sda7), partition, and still no love.
One of the problems is that on the Dell there is a /dell utility partition at the beginning of the disk, so I can't really move that to put a /boot partition at the beginning.Oddly, Lucid had no such problem. Lucid installed and recognised Windows XP, but when I try the same install procedure with Meerkat I draw a blank.
I made the mistake of downloading a couple of tunes from Ubuntu One, with the result that my credit union put a hold on my credit card because of "strange traffic" with a site in England. I've got that straightened out, but it didn't improve my opinion of Ubuntu One -- which seems to me to be about as proactive as a pack of hyenas at getting its fangs into various aspects of my file system, including absurd "synchronization" with "the cloud" which "at my level" is "Still Free." The synchronization notice also takes up valuable real estate in my file system windows, and should not be there without being invited.
Moreover, Ubuntu One AUTOMATICALLY begins synchronizing SOMETHING without being bidden if I merely open System -> Preferences -> Ubuntu One! I despise this kind of paternalistic crap, and want it OFF my system! Ubuntu One, IMHO, is a beachhead on my bank account and I want to remove it ENTIRELY from my system. My question is, is it safe to remove ALL references to Ubuntu One in the Synaptic Package Manager?If not, how do I disable it COMPLETELY, so that it will never again be activated?I have already cancelled my subscription at the website. I want the Ubuntu One code on my Dell Inspiron 1525 to vanish, preferably without disabling Meerkat further.
I just installed MeerKat on a Compaq Presario 2100US with 1 gig of RAM. How do I set the time correctly? I checked the Compaq set up screen and time is correct there. The install asked for my time zone. I'm in Seattle area so chose Vancouver. Time now showing in systray is four hours off but can't find any way to re-set it?

Everything is working very fine and suddenly bang ubuntu drops to black screen and cursor blinking on top right corner requiring a reboot to get it back to normal and again happens the same at any random time.
Is there any way that I can update 10.04 to Meerkat from CD rather than over the net.I mean without having to go through the fresh install of Meerkat.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIbus is very familiar to some users. And they find only one way to use Ibus as their keyboard layout. But its not possible to use ibus on Maverick Meerkat by default. you need to follow some instruction to do that. Here I am telling how I have done this...
Go to System> Administration> Synaptic Package Manager (you have to give your password) type " ibus-m17 " on search box. then just install the one appears. After installation the package, just close the synaptic. Now you are done to use Ibus.
Now go to System>Administration>Language Support (it may ask you to install the Language support, just click on the "Remind me later") Then select ' ibus ' from the "Keyboard input method system" under the Language tab.
Then close the window and restart the PC.
Thats the work I have done to get the iBus on Maverick Meerkat.
Is there a way to use meerkat with the 2.6.32 kernel?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing difficulty with the screen resolution on my Asus X51L laptop. Currently I am using Lucid and everything works perfectly but when I attempted to dual boot Meerkat the screen went out of sync. I have tried Meerkat both as a live CD and a full install and in both instances the display does not fill the screen. I attach a photo of the display in the hope that it will assist.
When I use the laptop at home I attach it to a 21 inch screen and everything works a treat and strangely enough when working with Meerkat and displaying it on the large screen it will properly display. This only confuses me further. I am due shortly to go for a trip and as the display is not correct am not prepared to show Ubuntu as being improperly displayed to others.
is it good to just upgrade Ubuntu 10.09 to 10.10 but not clean install?I've installed so many applications so far in Lucid and if I clean install it, I've been thinking of reinstall all the applications back is a tiring process.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI loaded the operating software on a new drive and all seemed to load ok. When I go to log in to ubuntu I get the window with my user name and a request for password. I type my password and go forward and the ubuntu appears to go into the program then the login window comes back on the screen. It almost seems like it is stuck in a loop???...If I put in my password and choose safemode I can access the operating system.

I've got the Flash player plugin installed, but not Flash 10, and I've tried to use the software centre to install Adobe Air from there, but it starts, runs for a couple of seconds, then stops. The same result if I try to download Flash 10.I've restarted and checked the installed software, but zilch.
I'm having frequent freezing issues within Ubuntu 10.10 and it's beginning to become a regular thing. I've come to find out that it only happens when the visual effects settings are at normal or extra. Everything will be fine for whatever amount of time but after a while the entire system freezes. I get no response from ANYTHING at all, not even the keyboard/mouse. This is really annoying and I'm not quite sure what to do. I'm mostly new to the whole Linux scene. Machine Specs:

Maverick Meerkat won't boot. I have tried removing the option of quiet boot and after a whirl of text flies by the splash screen is reached, after a few seconds just blackness indefinitely. Does anybody have any suggestions of what I can do?

If I close out of Update Manager and invoke the Synaptic Package Manager within a couple of minutes I am not asked for my passwordDoes anyone know if the was SUPPOSED to change in 10.10? I have reproduced the phenomenon in both the 32 and 64 bit versions of 10.10.

I can't do anything, ctrl alt delete doesn't work, pushing the button doesn't activate it either (I mean Turn on/off button). I have to hold shut down button so it would turn off, I lose everything I was working with, and simply have to start it again. I'm using Windows XP SP3 home edition.
