View 1 RepliesI installed maverick meerkat but for some reason there was no install to free space option so I installed onto 32gb of my 170gb windows vista installation. I NEED THAT INSTALLATION. Maverick Meerkat cannot detect my windows installation!
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there any way that I can update 10.04 to Meerkat from CD rather than over the net.I mean without having to go through the fresh install of Meerkat.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFrom the BBC site, if I try to download the desktop iPlayer, it tries to download Adobe Air installer, but says it "can't write the application to the hard disk", so it stops.
I've got the Flash player plugin installed, but not Flash 10, and I've tried to use the software centre to install Adobe Air from there, but it starts, runs for a couple of seconds, then stops. The same result if I try to download Flash 10.I've restarted and checked the installed software, but zilch.
After installing Meerkat, some windows close (and take their apps along with them into oblivion E.g., when I run Applications -> System Tools -> Sysinfo, selecting the FIRST MENU OPTION, i.e., System, causes the app to close suddenly.
There are other small examples, in Firefox, e.g., but I'm not compiling a dossier here. Aside from the butt-ugly Ubuntu font, there don't seem to be (m)any major issues. Well, EXCEPT THAT MY WALLPAPERS have vanished, but I'm sure Q.A.
I'm trying to install 10.10 (x64) using live CD but after about 20 mins of operation my computer goes into sleep mode, even if I am actively using the sessions (e.g. web surfing etc)and won't wake up. The hard drive keeps working but the monitor is in power save mode and can't be woken up. This is most problematic when trying to do an install, as the the sleep mode kicks in even mid-install. So far I tried the following:
1. turned off all power management in gnome
2. used acpi=off at boot
3. switched from S1 to S3 and back again
4. uninstalled all power management packages
5. configued power management in gnome to not go to sleep
No luck, and no change in behaviour.
My hardware is as follows:
GPU: 9800GTX+
CPU: Q9550
MB: GA-X48-DQ6 (gigabyte)
MEM: 8GB (4x2GB DDR2)
When the system kicks into sleep mode, the GPU fan goes to full as well. So I assumed that there may be a graphics driver issue, but not sure how to update drivers whilst using a live CD. I'm aware I can use text based install or the alternative install CD however, without going into too much detail these will not suffice for what I need to do. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I did do a search but I may not have been using the right search words. I'm keen to get 10.10 up and running, grateful for any assistance from you unbuntu gurus out there.
I've been running Ubuntu on an IBM Thinkpad T42 for about 3 years and have never had any instability but my Meerkat upgrade 10.10 about a week ago has never been right and seems to be getting worse. It's almost impossible to use the Internet. Whether Epiphany or Firefox, the screen keeps going grey and regularly freezes the computer completely so that NO keyboard commands work and only a hard restart will do. I also have problems streaming audio feeds with RP 11 or VLC. VLC is more of a problem which I find odd as it is solid in Windoze.
PS The instability isn't only Internet related. There are lots of strange little things like authentication windows not closing after I enter password and hit Enter or click OK, not being able to paste in Terminal (sometimes not others), toolbard in apps appearing differently sometimes, stuff like that.
been using meerkat in VM and there are some nice touches in there so was thinking of upgrading my lynx to meerkat, didnt wanna do fresh install cos meerkat has some stuff removed from what i see that lynx didnt BUT big worry is by doing upgrade not fresh I will end up with somoething completely sha**ed and wont work at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFresh install AMD64 10.10 alternative (for RAID). No mouse will work. I have tried 3. My old optical M$ PS2 / USB mouse that I have had for years, that worked fine on Lucid yesterday before wipeout and clean install. dell cheapo usb wheel mouse and apple pro mouse usb. all light up like they want to work. LSUSB shows them. Dmesg shows them when I unplug and replug. The mouse cursor is there but will not move.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering how long I have to upgrade to 11.04 until Maverick Meerkat is EOL. I have talked to other people, and they say to wait about a month until after the release to fix all bugs and stuff. Is this a good Idea? Or should I update now and just get it over with?

Has anyone else run across this? Obviously, trying to convince a friend to switch to ubuntu using this CD would not be good.
I have upgraded this system 3 or 4 times from Lucid to Meerkat without any problems. After a nasty update to my Natty installation I have re-installed Lucid and am upgrading to Meerkat, then on to Natty again. However when I try to upgrade I am getting the error below.
Code:

I updated my Ubuntu to Meerkat last night. everything seems to be working fine, except when i went to iplayer, it told me flash wasn't installed. I followed the link, and installed flash from APT source. In the software centre it is listed as installed. However, still cannot view flash videos.i have tried rebooting too.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently use Karmic Koala (9.10) and want to upgrade to Maverick Meerkat (10.10). The thing is that Update Manager allows me to upgrade only to 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) but I cannot upgrade to Lucid Lynx because of a bug which freezes my keyboard and mouse. Also, upgrading first to 10.04 and then to 10.10 is quite time consuming. Can I upgrade directly to 10.10 from 9.10 without 10.04 acting as a mediator?

Have a Dell Studio XPS with 64 bit Meerkat on it. Whenever I connect my Samsung external monitor by displayport/dvi ubuntu no longer boots. Machine unresponsive and have to cut power and disconnect it. :/
Sounds exactly like this bug, no? [URL] Except for the fact I have ATI video card and the restricted drivers (with Catalyst control center, although it is useless).
Code:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Madison [Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series] Win7 install works fine.
I want to upgrade to Meerkat from Lucid but am unable to find the upgrade in my Package Manager.I have been receiving and installing regular updates recently so I don't think there is any problem with receiving notice of updates other than the Meerkat update.Did notice that my packages have not been updated in 46 days.how to update the packages if it is.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my laptop from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat). Upon rebooting after the upgrade I get a black screen. No login window, nothing. Just a black, empty void on my screen. My laptop has a Nvidia graphics card, and reading around on the internet I heard that there is a problem with Meerkat and Nvidia cards, something to do with the driver or some such thing. Is there a way to fix this?I'm wondering if it's possible to boot Ubuntu into a command line interface instead of X Windows, log in, and change the driver settings in xorg.conf? How would I go about booting into the command line? Is there a sequence of keys to press at boot time?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhy isn't there a clear warning against selecting the 'update' option in Meerkat?I know it seems like a good idea to have it, but unless a server speed test is run, it adds a huge amount of time to the install (3 1/2 hours of downloading so far). It's not my internet connection (ADSL2+ - fast), so it must be an overloaded server and/or congested intercontinental data pipes.
After the installation, it's possible to find one's optimal (fastest) server before running updates - and I know from past experience that this makes a huge difference to little old me in Australia. I can certainly update everything much faster than I am currently seeing . I strongly recommend that, if this option is kept in future distributions, it should include a server speed test (and auto selection of the best server?) as well as a realistic warning to the user.
I recently did an upgrade over the internet from the previous version 10.04. After everything required was downloaded and installed, I rebooted. Now, the system only displays a blank screen after a quick flash of "Ubuntu 10.10".
I have a copy of the 64-bit Desktop install CD of 10.10. I tried to boot up live with it. Same problem.
My system:
K8M800 motherboard
AMD Sempron 2600+
1 Gig RAM
Integrated graphics: VIA S3 UniChrome Pro
I recently upgraded from Lucid Lynx to Maverick Meerkat and my OpenOffice.org Impress presentations' sound is not working. I don't have any issues affecting sound in other applications.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI get the following error message trying to install dazuko on xubuntu 10.04: "headers for target kernel version could not be found" But when I run sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r), I get the message that I already installed the headers. My current kernel is 2.6.34-020634-generic
How can I install dazuko withouth having this problem??
Over the past few days I have been trying to install an older kernel (kernel 2.6.28.1) on ubuntu 9.10 64-bit WUBI installation. I compiled, installed, and updated my grub for the kernel. When I reboot, the grub menu correctly gives me the option of booting into the older kernel but when I do so I receive the following error message:
error: you need to load the linux kernel first.
I am at a complete loss on how to fix this. I even downgraded grub but I still get the same error.
With the recent upgrade kernel, my ATI driver can no longer work. After upgrading to the new kernel, upon reboot I would get stuck at the "checking battery status" and can't boot into kubuntu.
I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 64 on intel i5 with radeon hd 4870.
So I thought I messed something up since I was fooling around with conky script the day before. I did a clean install of kubuntu 10.10 64 and reset all my settings and my files. At this point, everything works smoothly and I can reboot multiple times without a problem.
I proceeded to install the Radeon catalyst driver following the documentation, which worked perfectly for me on the previous kernel. After rebooting, I can no longer get pass the "checking battery state" black screen. I had to boot into safe book, uninstall all fglrx and also delete xorg.conf to be able to boot back in normally.
9.04 this morning updated my kernel to I believe it is 2.6.28.18 and upon the reboot I had no desktop. It booted wanting to go into low graphics.
So I drop to shell and stop the gdm and try to run the latest nvidia run file I have and it hangs saying I have a x server running.
Otherwise I am needing assistance with getting my desktop back! I can boot into an older kernel and if need be I would like to roll back that latest update this morning, but once again I am forgetting the command line for that.
i just updated my mainboard, because of a failure in the grafic chip. Now I have a icore 7-2600K CPU with 16GB memory. The system will not boot with the latest kernel version Kernel 2.6.38.11 - Kernel 2.6.38.10 . It crashed and resets the system.
But when I am using Kernel 2.6.35.30, then it works, as you can see. As well the kubuntu 64bit CDROM does not work. Crashed as well.
