Ubuntu :: Convert - Upgrade From System Mint Isadora To 10.10 Meerkat?

I have linux mint 9 installed and would like to upgrade to ubuntu 10.10 maverick meerkat without reformatting and reinstalling from cd.
update-manager -d is different to linux mint so I can't go the traditional ubuntu way of upgrading.
Can I at least convert to ubuntu 10.04 and then from that; upgrade to maverick meerkat?
If I woulda known it'd be this hard to try the new stuff out I woulda just stayed with ubuntu the whole time. Linux Mint is still cool anyway.

i bought this laptop for my parents to use with a webcam to communicate because i recently moved to another state. I have read that the logitech c200 webcam is compatible with my laptop, and should just install as soon as i plug it in. However, nothing happens when i plugged it in so i tried to install it from the cd. there is an icon that pops up on the screen when the cd is in, but goes away when it's removed. not sure what type of info you need. my system is linux mint 9 isadora.

I burned the ISO of linux mint 9 isadora xfce onto a CD(the live version) and when I booted up for the very first time it asked for a username and password, what am I supposed to put in there? Also, should I have my ethernet cable plugged in for the installation of the OS, or is it fine to do it with no internet connection?

I'm pretty new to Linux, but I know enough to run only Linux mint 8. (I hate windows)
But I just noticed yesterday, I have a 64 bit processor, and Im running 32 bit version.
The website says that its less stable (The 64 bit), but is it really worse? I find that my processor gets bogged down very easy in my 32 bit. (No freezes though, I love linux )
How do I upgrade to 64 bit without reinstalling the OS?Is that even possible?
What other solutions could there be?

According to the Linux Mint website, 6 RC1 is considered stable. I'm running Linux Mint 5 and I'd like to upgrade. How can I upgrade without reinstalling?
I'm not new to Linux, I know about using the terminal and stuff. MintUpdate says I'm up-to-date and there's no Distribution Upgrade or anything like that available. Maybe if I switched the "elyssa" lines in sources.list to whatever the equivalent is in RC1? That would cause a truckload of updates to be available, thus upgrading my computer to 6RC1, right?

I keep getting notified about the update to 11.04.
Is there any point in doing this if Meerkat works fine?
Will the upgrade delete my existing programs and or settings in things like i8kmon, etc.?

I was just wondering how long I have to upgrade to 11.04 until Maverick Meerkat is EOL. I have talked to other people, and they say to wait about a month until after the release to fix all bugs and stuff. Is this a good Idea? Or should I update now and just get it over with?

How are your experiences upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10? I'm thinking about it but I'm hesitating since there is no way I could make any backups and I've had some bad experiences with Debian dist-upgrades. Have you upgraded already? If so, have you had any trouble?

I have upgraded this system 3 or 4 times from Lucid to Meerkat without any problems. After a nasty update to my Natty installation I have re-installed Lucid and am upgrading to Meerkat, then on to Natty again. However when I try to upgrade I am getting the error below.

I'm trying to upgrade netatalk to the latest version because my Time Machine gets corrupted when the volume reaches its max capacity. How do I do it? I uninstalled netatalk, downloaded the latest package, made configure, make, make install (without any errors, just some warnings), but netatalk doesn't seem to run. I can't connect to the shares. If I install netatalk 2.1.2 via synaptic everything starts to work again. How to upgrade netatalk to the latest version on ubuntu 10.10?

I updated my Ubuntu to Meerkat last night. everything seems to be working fine, except when i went to iplayer, it told me flash wasn't installed. I followed the link, and installed flash from APT source. In the software centre it is listed as installed. However, still cannot view flash videos.i have tried rebooting too.

I have an Asus K60 laptop with the Athlon chipset. I had wireless working just fine under Lucid. But after upgrading to Meerkat, I can't get my password to be recognized. The router connection is seen without any difficulty, but the WPA password is rejected every time. I've rechecked it, of course, and also checked that it works in the Windows partition on the same machine. I'm using wicd and madwifi, recompiled for the -35 kernel. I currently use Karmic Koala (9.10) and want to upgrade to Maverick Meerkat (10.10). The thing is that Update Manager allows me to upgrade only to 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) but I cannot upgrade to Lucid Lynx because of a bug which freezes my keyboard and mouse. Also, upgrading first to 10.04 and then to 10.10 is quite time consuming. Can I upgrade directly to 10.10 from 9.10 without 10.04 acting as a mediator?

I want to upgrade to Meerkat from Lucid but am unable to find the upgrade in my Package Manager.I have been receiving and installing regular updates recently so I don't think there is any problem with receiving notice of updates other than the Meerkat update.Did notice that my packages have not been updated in 46 days.how to update the packages if it is.

Well over the weekend I took the plunge and upgraded. All was fine with Lucid. Well the upgrade was surprisingly straight forward. But, yep there is always a but. I though it had screwed up my samba totally, but no it hasn't. It is working just fine. I use firestarter to tweak my firewall, turn it off and all is fine.
I have told firestarter to open my local network, with a 10.0.0.1/24 (I can never recall is that right?) but it still ain't working. Have router doing firewall duties too, so not that bothered, but would like to know how to fix it. Before I upgrad my webserver box too.

I am running Mint 8 KDE 64-bit edition, which is very nice by the way. Last night I tried to run the upgrade to lucid, but it did not commit any changes, and the version is still listed as Mint 8 Helena, which is based on Karmic. I am guessing the Mint guys have set apt-get to look at the Mint repositories rather than Ubuntu.What do I need to do to bring my system up to version 10.04, including Gnome 2.30 and KDE 4.4.2?

I am a first time Linux user and have recently installed Linux Mint onto my dell inspiron 1525. When i connect the Ethernet cable to my computer the two computers symbol in the bottom right hand corner starts searching for a connection, but unfortunately does not find one. it says "no network connection". one thing that is strange to me but might not be to you is that i have installed fedora 12, 10, and 6, and all distros had the same exact problem. i take the cable out of the laptop with Linux and put it back in my desktop with xp pro and it works fine.also my wireless 1395 card isn't recognized but thats an entirely different pain in the *** ill work on one problem at a time..

Is there a way to make the Synaptic on Debian look like Mint's? You can see how more polished Mint's looks versus Debian's 0.6.25 and 0.70. Mint's complies with GTK styling and has a nicer placement of the Quick Search and nicer toolbar icons IMO.

Using 2 different linux mints(6, and 8), with 2 different screen sizes. (17 inch and 10 inch) i have not been able to connect the vga laptops to a Hdmi slot in the tv. i have tried using different screen sizes for the laptop and also have tried to use different screen sizes on the tv. aside from that i don't know much else what to attempt, all of my drivers are active so i don't think that is the issue.

I have double boot windows xp and linux mint 10 on a dell desktop. from the start, linux mint would not completely shutdown. the windows xp shuts down completely. i have tried the commands sudo poweroff, sudo telinit 0 and sudo shut down -h now. not one works. i also have updated to the dvd version and is updated on everything else.
i do not know how to go to bios or perform any programming tasks. may i then request that instructions, if any, be detailed?

I wished to know if I can install windows 7 on my system when I am already running Linux Mint 10(as the only operating system on my machine). That configuration is called a dual boot. If you install Win7 first (or it is already present), THEN install linux, you will find that grub notices both and you will not need to mess with the MBR. The better solution is to load mint, add VirtualBox, and install Win7 into a virtual machine. Then you get to run Linux and Windows AT THE SAME TIME!

I did something weird and now my text size is like 3pt on every system window, but when I go in and change my window fonts to larger to something that looks normal, it makes my clock, bash, and other fonts absolutely gigantic. Is there any way I can just roll back my system and it's settings? It wouldn't be much bother as I installed the OS yesterday. I'd hate to have to reinstall entirely though

I'm using Linux mint and get Internet wirelessly from the router downstairs. i have xbox live and get Internet by following the instructions from this page:

but i cant seem to get the script file to run automatically or for the commands to run, so i have to run it everytime i want to connect to xbox live. is there anyway i can solve this?
