How do I disable bluetooth on boot up. I know bluetooth can be turn off manually everytime I am on my com. But how do I permanently disable bluetooth on boot up. I don't want to disable it in bios because I am having dual boot.

I don't want it completely disabled as I sometimes require it but I'd prefer if the BT radio was in the off state as default.Really the bluetooth state should be persistent across boots - i.e. remember the last state.

surely this is a bad drain on my battery? how do i set it that my bluetooth will disable when i suspend the laptop then restart when i resume?

In windows there is an driver called wconsole.exe or wireless console which help me turn on and off both blutooth and wlan device but in ubuntu these devices are not turned off. When i connect to my laptop a bluetooth usb stick, the bluetooth could not be turned on.

The bluetooth manager does not detect a bluetooth dongle .trying to use ndiswrapper to fix.I installed device manager and the results are shown below.i downloaded the windows driver suite. It has 4 .exe self extracting driver archives and a setupconfig.ini. The .ini file is below.I was able to extract one of the 32bit archives on a windows machine and it had about 8 .inf files that are titled weird and would not install properly using ndiswrapper probably because im using the 64-bit architecture. there are 2 64bit .exe's in the driver download, but how can i extract them in ubuntu and do i really need to install all 8 .inf files. also do i actually need to make a .inf file? if so how?

well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.

At boot time I get asked to input my password to open the keyring. I don't need this level of security and want to either pass the password in a script or disable the keyring without disallowing my wireless connection. How do I do that and where do I find out about this keyring thing?

Most of the time it is postfix and some other service. Today it is just mcelog. So when I switch to the first terminal by strg+alt+F1, I see that mcelog has failed.The system is running anyway, so I wonder if it is safe to turn them off? I would turn off postfix and mcelog. Do I harm the system with that? Would it boot again, after I have turned them off? Or is it recommended to let them stay as they are?As far as I understood, postfix is just a mailserver, which would be used, if I would run a mailserver on my own. But I don´t. I just read mails, via IMAP... But mcelog? Whats that?

In order to get bluetooth to work, I had to downgrade the firmware. This is all fine and means bluetooth works in XP too. However, now, I have a dual boot with Windows 7 and Squeeze, I use Vista drivers (as Dell don't provide 7 drivers) and this has upgraded the firmware, and broken bluetooth in Squeeze. How can I get bluetooth working in both Squeeze and Windows 7? Could changing the hardware help? If so, what to?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to update all the software on my computer. Fortunately, it upgraded kernel version 3.14 to 3.16. I was happy to learn that suspend now worked on my laptop by calling pm-suspend, but it did not worked by closing the lid. So I search and found on debian's website that installing systemd and adding some config lines in /etc/systemd/logind.conf would sove the issue. So I followed the procedure and did like instructed, to end up with a computer that boots on black screen.
The last verbrose line I see on boot up is "kvm disabled by bios" and then it shutdown down the screen. The computer works, as I can login and shutdown by doing those operation blindly.
I tried removing systemd but it still does not work. If I use the old kernel 3.14 I can boot without any problem, but if I use kernel 3.16, I boot to a black screen. I remember successfully booting in 3.16 before installing systemd.
i've got UBUNTU 10.10 installed on my laptop.After i turn my laptop on and the comp prepares 2 boot the OS,a screen asking me to choose which OS version i'd like 2 select.Now ideally i'd like jst 2 names on dat list namely-Ubuntu and win xp..But I've a host of other options as well like memory testblahblah'safemode'....wotevr....Is this ok 2 have so many OS startup options.Is there a way to get rid of unwanted stuff like changin the BOOT.ini file or in any other way???
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am unable to boot my laptop in the usual way. The fedora emblem in the centre of the screen appears and starts to turn from white to dark blue in the usual way. When it is almost complete it stops.
In order to make the machine boot i hit escape and a message says leaving interactive startup mode. At this point the machine continues to start up.
When i do manage to get it to boot i get the following message repeated many times:
I should also add... The laptop will not close down, once i click switch off the screen turns blue and displays the fedora emblem in the centre. At the top right text says "Shutting Down" but at this point the system hangs.
