I recently removed Spotify using the Wine remove software function. When I try to reinstall Spotify using the "Spotify Installer.exe" I just keep getting the famous "NSIS error" (without any error code, it's plain NSIS). When I try to run the "Spotify Installer.exe" through a terminal it gives me:
wine: cannot find L"unix\home\user\Desktop\Spotify Installer.exe"
Any help in this bloody mess is much appreciated since I can't (I hope no one can) live without music.
I'm running Ubuntu Natty 11.04.

This is probably a really simple one to solve but I haven't figured out the solution. When I click on the minimize button of a window it closes down completely instead of just being minimized to the tray. I hadn't altered any settings manually so wondered why this has started happening in the last week or so. Is there any way I can stop this from happening by going into system settings or whatever. I am using Fedora 10.

Have 2 HDDs, ubuntu 804 is on primary, xp is on secondary. using grub boot loader which defaults to xp.
xp install has crapped out and needs reinstalling. any caveats i should be aware of?
My thoughts were that i should just stick the xp cd in, boot her up, reformat secondary, install xp and everything would be fine?

I'm trying to create a media box for my TV. I've installed a barebones ubuntu from minimal install disc. After that I installed xorg and XBMC. But my usb devices are not automounting. Is there a pacakage im missing? I've read that XBMC should be able to handle mounting of devices and that no window manager or desktop environment is needed to handle this.
I followed these two tutorials and my current install is 10.04 Lucid.

I've re-installed Windows and now can't boot xubuntu 9.1. I've looked at: [URL]. I did the the fdisk -l and tried mounting each of the partitions but I couldn't mount sda4 which I think is the partition that my xubuntu is located on. A clue that this is the partition is that it is the only one of type extended as I saw in gparted. It was also the only one apart from sda5 that I wasn't able to mount and sda5 I think was an old USB partition. Anything else I could try or are you going to need the output of "fdisk -l" to get a fuller picture.

I'm about to reinstall Windows XP on a system that I also have Ubuntu installed on. I'm a bit confused how the boot loader works in a dual boot system. After reinstalling XP will I have to do something, like reinstalling GRUB somehow?

I have a PC with a single HDD and multiple partitions as follows:1. A FAT32 - Special partition for recovery (Windows kit provided by manufacturer)2. NTFS - C: win partition for primary Win3. NTFS - D: win partition for other Win OSThese 3 are primary partitions.4. An extended partition with NTFS E and the rest of HDD the default partitions of openSUSE 11.3 (/ , /home)All the OSs worked perfectly until I reinstalled the D: Windows OS. During the Win install the machine is restarting and normally continues to finish the setup. In my case after restart the following message appeared: Invalid partition table.I think that by reinstalling linux I will get access to the C and E partitions too but I need to reinstall win on D too. How can I make this possible.

I'm trying to reinstall FC10 after a foolish mistake I've done that costed me operation of my Fedora partition (uninstalling SELinuxpolicycoreutils).
I have a dual boot Ubuntu - FC 10 machine and delete my old fedora partition with GParted. However when I try to install FC 10 from the live CD using the option "Use free space on selected drives and create default layout" I get the error message:
Could not allocate requested partitions:
Partitioning failed:
The following errors occurred with your partitioning:
You have not defined a root partition (/), which is required for installation of Fedora to continue.
This can happen if there is not enough space on your hard drive(s) for the installation.
Press 'OK' to choose a different partitioning option.
This is the output of fdisk -l :
Partition table entries are not in disk order
My last option is erase everything from my drive including the Ubuntu partition and start over the installation, something that I would like to avoid.

When that option is selected the screen changes colour for 2 seconds and then reverts to the GRUB menu. Ubuntu boots fine.I downloaded the Boot Info Script and ran it, the results are

I am using CentOS 5.2 with GRUB booting a software RAID configuration. The first disk is md0 and is mirrored across sda1 and sdb1.I manually re-installed grub using grub-install and the machine will no longer boot off of the HD. The grub menu comes up, I can select my kernel the machine then jumps to loading the initrd and hangs. It will go no further. I have a live DVD that can boot from the HD. If I use that to first boot from the DVD, then specifiy the HD, it shows the same grub menu and then the machine boots fine w/o the initrd hang.I have tried re-installing grub but not been able to get the machine to work again w/o the DVD.

When I open either my user or root terminal, by right-clicking on the Minimise Window option in the top right-hand corner (beside the Restore Window and Close Window options), if I tick the Always on Top option from the drop-down menu, then the terminal Window (or any other window when this option is selected) will not minimise automatically on clicking the mouse in another open window like, for example, Iceweasel. This is particularly useful, for example, when cutting and pasting commands from the browser to the terminal and I recommend it. But how can the Always on Top option be set to permanent for a specific program, like the the Terminal so that it will be saved for the next time one logs in to a Gnome session?

I am attempting to try install XUbuntu.
I loaded the dvd (one that came with Linux Format Magazine No. 139), changed BIOS to boot from dvd, and then:
I get the welcome screen with the options to boot Ubuntu, KUbuntu, XUbuntu or Boot from First Hard Disk. As I have an older laptop I was going to try XUbuntu. However, the arrow keys did not change the boot option. In fact nothing worked, Tab did not bring up a menu and Enter did not initiate boot.
I tried reloading the dvd, switching off the laptop (no way to shutdown) and restarting but always come up with the same problem.
My DVD drive works fine and the dvd appears not to be faulty since all the info is readable when it is loaded with windows running.
My system details are:
HP compaqnx9000
Mobile Intel Pentium(R) 4-m CPU 2.20 GHz 219GHz 704MB RAM
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7580A
Radeon 1GP 340M

After Reinstalling windows how 2 boot ubuntu i.e installed via Wubi perviously on win After Reinstalling windows how 2 boot ubuntu i.e installed via Wubi perviously on windows 7. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on my Laptop, where it installed via Wubi on Windows 7. [windows 7 (Cand ubuntu on the different drive(U(NTFS)*its not a dual boot as installed via wubi]. For some reason My Windows needs a reinstall but in this case i think i will also lost ubuntu because its installed via Wubi.
Part 1 - I need to back up all the data that is installed in ubuntu i.e. SMplayer,Graphical GTK theme,Compiz,Emerald. and its setting, means the whole ubuntu system. So that after installing windows and ubuntu as a dual boot (not wubi again)i do not need to configure and install the whole ubuntu data/software again. Its pain for me to downlad again and again the data for ubuntu [Coz low speed connection ]
Part 2 - if it is possible that after Reinstalling windows i can boot into ubuntu that is previously installed via Wubi on different drive that please tell me, how could i do that. ****if it is not possible than please show me the way to do backup all the data, software, plugin that is downloaded.etc. I need to back up the whole Ubuntu because after installing windows i am goin 2 format the ubuntu drive and make it to Ext4 that is currently NTFS and then i will install the Fresh 9.10 on that.

I've set up a triple boot system (Ubuntu Karmic, Windows Vista and OSX86 -- a patched OS X which works on a PC) on a Dell 9200 (C2D 2.13 GHz, 4GB RAM, nVidia G210). I sue Grub2 as the bootloader and update-grub picks up OS X and it boots without any problem.
However, although when booting OS X using its own Darwin bootloader, I can apply the boot option "Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32" to ensure that I get the screen resolution that I want, when OS X boots from Grub2, the only resolution available is 1024x768 which is disappointing. I have tried adding gfxmode=1650x1050x32 to the OS X section of /boot/grub/grub.cfg in Ubuntu but this does nothing.

But I tried to add software and it says : impossible to proceed, package software is broken, proceed to repair before adding... I want to put a decent photo software as F spot is not really good, for editing. how i can resole the package software problem, as might come from very low speed and may affect the program?

I'm trying to install ubuntu on my laptop running Windows XP, and created a cd with ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso on it, about 706 Mb. Anyway, I've tried powering off and on, and my PC doesn't try to run the install CD in the CD drive. It just ignores it and starts windows. I've done this several times. I remember one time it asked how I wanted to install ubuntu, and I selected the "inside of windows" option so I can boot either Windows XP or ubuntu. But nothing happens.

I have Vista 32bit dual booting with Ubuntu 10.04
I want Vista to be my default OS so I installed Start-Up Manager in Ubuntu and set Vista as the default OS and changed the timeout to 0 seconds.
By doing this, I thought that it would always boot to Vista as if nothing else was installed (which is what I wanted it to act like) and then whenever I wanted to boot to Ubuntu I would hold down 'Shift' to load the Grub2 menu and select Ubuntu.
The problem is, every time I boot up the Grub menu won't load. I tried holding 'Shift' down, tapping repeatedly, but all that comes up is something like "Grub Menu...Loading" in the top left corner and then it boots to Vista.
I just need a way to boot back to Ubuntu to change the timeout.
Thanks.
