Ubuntu :: 10.10 - Cannot Detect Subdirectory (Bash CD Error)
Dec 21, 2010
I'm trying to change to a subdirectory:
Code:
tony@advent:~/scratch$ cd Home-Arch
bash: cd: Home-Arch: No such file or directory
So I list the contents of the current directory:
Code:
tony@advent:~/scratch$ ls
duhome Home-Arch qcad_1.dxf qcad_1.svg runme stdout
OK, I assume I have mis-typed the subdirectory name in ways I cannot detect, so I copy the sub-directory name from the output of the 'ls' command, while within the terminal window, and paste it into the next 'cd' command:
Code:
tony@advent:~/scratch$ cd Home-Arch
bash: cd: Home-Arch: No such file or directory
I browse the directory and sub-directory in Nautlius - everything is there where I expect it to be. The folders/files are not hidden. What is happening here?
I'm trying to write a small script and there's one part of it that makes me sick:
Code:
ifconfig eth$num down sleep 6 ifconfig eth$num hw ether $mac ifconfig eth$num up
The problem is that the ethX interface doesn't go down immediately after the first line is executed. So sometimes the change of MAC is called while ethX is up, no matter how big is the sleep time, which results in an error. Is there a way to make this work right?
I want to be able to time how long I spend in front of a terminal. I'm thinking the best way will be to have some sort of timer that starts and stops when the terminal gains/loses focus. And it will have to work with multiple terminals...
Using xsel I pass a selection into a variable. I then check that the variable includes an embedded newline to be sure that the selection returned by xsel is complete. If the selection content preceding the newline is just a single word, the check fails to detect the newline, thus
I have used Dump Command to dump the application files. For Full backup the level 0 is working fine. For incremental backup I used the level 1 or 2 it is getting the error as
DUMP: Only level 0 dumps are allowed on a subdirectory DUMP: The ENTIRE dump is aborted.
The code I used =============================== #!/bin/bash #Full Day Backup Script #application folders backup #test is the username now=$(date +"%d-%m-%Y") [Code]...
How one could determine (for use in a Bash or Python script) which device (eg /dev/sda1, /dev/hda1... etc) a ramfs was loaded from when booting from a USB drive.
I have a RIPLinux/Tinycore live USB disk that automatically needs to run a script that is stored on the same USB drive but not part of the RIPLinux/Tinycore image. (Please note that I do not want to put this script into the RIPLinux image.) I therefore would like to remix the RIPLinux/Tinycore ISO to automatically run this script once it has started up. After RIP linux has booted I would like to automatically mount the USB drive that RIPLinux/Tinycore was booted from. I need help detecting which device this is.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu Server from a USB drive. I can boot into the drive but when I'm trying to do an install I get a "can't detect CD-ROM" error. Does anyone know how I can get past this?
The following problem occurs to me, I'm creating a distribution (as a class project) for my school (I'm studying telecommunications and computer systems). I am following, in order to create the distribution, the manual that you can find on this page: [URL] But when I get to write:
I have Joomla installed at /var/www/joomla, if I navigate to http://localhost/joomla, I get a 404 error, but if I add index.php, the page loads. What is wrong?? Also I am not able to navigate to the administration part of Joomla for the same reason, typing in index.php doesn't load it in this case. Yes I have verified that all files are present in the directory.
I have a machine (mercury) on which /home/hyperhacker/video is a mounted external hard drive while the rest of /home/hyperhacker is on the internal hard disk. I have a second machine (konata) using autofs to automatically mount mercury:/home/hyperhacker in /mnt/mercury as needed. This works, except /mnt/mercury/video shows up empty.mercury:/etc/exports has: Code: /home/hyperhacker konata(ro,subtree_check)/home/hyperhacker/video konata(ro,subtree_check) and I've tried a few variations in konata: Code: $ cat /etc/auto.master
While saving a file I made a typo and performed the vi command ':w~' instead of ':w!' and I created a root '~' instance in one of my subdirectories. How do I remove this reference without wiping out the entire main /root /~ directory? Do I use unlink()?
I would like to know how can I get permission to subdirectories of a share other than what main share has. I do not want them to have same share I mean for example I share "sharetest" and it has full access for A and B and C groups but "sharetest/foo1" has read only access for A group and "sharetest/foo2" has read only access for B group and "sharetest/foo3" has read only access for all of them.
Anybody using Moneydance on 10.04 ? how to install it.
I downloaded the self installer with java *moneydance_linux_x86wj.sh* from their site as they recommended but when I try to install all I get is a Gedit error :- gedit has not been able to detect the character encoding. Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file. Select a character encoding from the menu and try again.
using this parameters the main html page and all the images will download in the same folder. Instead i would like to have the html page in a folder and all the images, css ecc in a subdirectory for example i want to have:
I am new to linux and trying to install one software and it is constantly throwing me an error eventhough I downloaded and latest version of boost and tryed to add it to its path: The error is: "We could not detect the boost library(version1.38 or higher). If you have a stages boost library(still not installed) please specify $boost_root in your envireonment and do not give a PATH to --with-bost option. IF you are sure you have boost installed, then check 7youe version number looking in<boost/version.hpp>"
I have the following command that I run on cygwin:
find /cygdrive/d/tmp/* -maxdepth 0 -mtime -150 -type d | xargs du --max-depth=0 > foldersizesreport.csv
I intended to do the following with this command: for each folder under /d/tmp/ that was modified in last 150 days, check its total size including files within it and report it to file foldersizesreport.csv however that is now not good enough for me, as it turns out inside each
so as you see inside each subfolderX there is a file named somefile.properties inside it there is a property SOMEPROPKEY=3808612800100 (among other properties) this is the time in millisecond, i need to change the command so that instead of -mtime -150 it will include in the whole calculation only subfolderX that has a file inside them somefile.properties where the SOMEPROPKEY=3808612800100 is the time in millisecond in future, if the value SOMEPROPKEY=23948948 is in past then dont at all include the folderin the foldersizesreport.csv because its not relevant to me.so the result report should be looking like:
and if subfolder3 had a SOMEPROPKEY=34243234 (time in ms in past) then it would not be in that csv file.so basically I'm looking for:
find /cygdrive/d/tmp/* -maxdepth 0 -mtime -150 -type d | <only subfolders that have in them property in file SOMEPROPKEY=28374874827 - time in ms in future and not in past | xargs du --max-depth=0 > foldersizesreport.csv
I have a vary unique problem with file and directory ownership. I need to change the ownership of multiple files and directories under a specific subdirectory.Under this directory structure there are files and directories owned my different users and groups. I need to change all files and directories owned by "user1" to "user2". but if any are owned by "user3" I need those left alone. Is there a simple way to do this or will I need to traverse the structure and change things one at a time.
I have RAID1.. throgh SATA cable..One of my HDD got failed to detect...hen i chkd other hdd is detecting in BIOS but i couldn't boot.. It says GRUB Hard Disk Error.
This is, incidentally, the same message that I see while booting. The error message goes away if I comment out the line in fstab starting with /dev/sdc.
I've installed Squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 on my laptop (Alienware M17X R3, Intel i7 Sandybridge, ATI Technologies Inc Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6800 Series])The screen is 17", with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. After a default install of the operating system, the maximum resolution I can select is 1280 x 1024.My research so far has suggested that I need to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and provide xorg with the necessary resolution.
Again, by default, the xorg.conf file is not created. This leads me to believe that xorg is scanning my hardware at startup and providing me with whatever it thinks is appropriate. I tried following these instructions to generate an xorg.conf file. This process created an xorg.conf file under /root/.
When I copy this xorg.conf file to /etc/X11, I get a blank (i.e. black) screen. Deleting this file restores the default resolution 1280 x 1024.This system is dual booting with Windows 7. Under windows I am able to get a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I know my hardware is up to it.At this stage I have yet to install the drivers for the Radeon graphics card. What are my options regarding configuring xorg to give me a higher screen resolution?
I've used mod_rewrite to rewrite my apache2 root (my.server.com/) to point to /var/www/drupal6/ instead of /var/www/. I also have a script installed in my cgi-bin (/usr/lib/cgi-bin) but since the rewrite I can't seem to access it. When I go to my.server.come/cgi-bin/test.pl, I get a page not found from my drupal.
Is there a way I can access my cgi-bin without resorting to accessing my drupal through my.server.com/drupal6/?
Background: I have installed drupal CMS which has a base address of my.server.com/drupal6/ as it resided in /var/www/drupal6/. However I wanted users to be able to access it as my.server.com/ so I added the following into my httpd.conf
Code: NameVirtualHost *:80 <Directory /var/www/drupal6> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase /
I have a new F12 install, and my syslog is filling up with messages about USB. I have 2 USB devices plugged in directly to the mobo (bluetooth keyboard receiver, touchscreen), and it keeps redetecting them and then disabling the port for some reason.
I tried to install VirtualBox 32 bit on my 64bit Fedora11 OS. I took the 32 bit version as I want to run a 32bit software. I collected all information I could get from other forums. That's what I did: I downloaded and installed [URL]
Now I got stucked with the error Qt WARNING: QGtkStyle was unable to detect the current GTK+ theme. I searched for qt or qgtkstyle on my system and found files containing both but don't know what to do here.
