I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit & I've attempted to setup airprint so that I can print from my iPad using the howto at [URL]. When I run the script, I get the following error;

So i have used WinFF to convert the video into a Mpg (thats the file it made for me when i asked in to convert it into a ipad file)
But i just can't find anyway to get in to play on the iPad, once plugged in, what folder do i put it in, do i need to download a app?
These forums won't let me post using an iPad. I can visit this page, no problem, but when I try to add or edit a post, it just doesn't work. The edit page appears, but when I tap in the main textarea field, nothing happens. I expect the virtual keyboard to slide into view and a cursor to appear. This does not happen. In fact, if the keyboard is visible prior to tapping in the text area, then the keyboard slides out of view when the textarea is tapped. It's kind of awkward, having to wait until I get near a desktop machine before I post anything.

Im looking for an alternative to the iPad (havent got one and am not interested in getting one).
Is there a preferably Linux-powered mini comp/tablet out there that would be a good portable movie player? Nothing too small though, it should be about the same screen size as the iPad...

I've heard a VNC client is the best way to go. But will this allow me full access, or just to view the screen? Will I be able to watch movies at the highest framerate with this method?

View 5 Replies View RelatedInteresting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.
I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedNot sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed.The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.

For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.
Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.

But the issue I am dealing with is that it will print a full page and then print a blank page..then a full page..then a blank page. Actually they aren't completely blank..it shows half of "2 of 6" or whatever page it is on. Like it cuts that in half and prints the 2nd half of "2 of 6" onto a separate new page.

it was a fresh install of the distro and i updated it using update manager. i plugged in the printer via usb and it recognizes it but the damn thing won't print for ****. i've looked on the forums for a solution and there's nothing there. one guy had the same problem as me but no one posted it so i'm here to revive that post. anyone got a solution for this?the test print works but it prints blank pages! wtf is going on? as advance as ubuntu is, printing shouldn't be a problem. this is an urgent matter and i'm sure other people out there has the same problem as me.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI convinced our librarian to let me put Ubuntu on our public computers a year ago. However everyone is really upset as printing is a constant problem. Soon Ubuntu will go and windows will be back if I can't solve this soon. I have tried lots of tweaks with no luck. I am not a computer or Linux professional but am pretty knowledgeable on tech although a bit weak with command line tasks.Karmic can print test pages but rarely pdf, office, or web pages. I constantly uninstall and reinstall the printer. We use a print server and several laptops share the printer. All run Ubuntu 9.10 and all are up to date. When I check the print queue all jobs are being held even though I have it set to no hold.Occasionally something will print.I also have an XP machine and an Apple but have about given up on ever getting them to print though the printer does get found by both of them.We are lucky that they let me put Ubuntu on these machines but unless this is solved soon Ubuntu will be history here. What I really need is to talk to someone while I am at the library and see is this can be fixed in a step by step manner.
I am there Thurs by 1pm eastern time USA daylight savings time. Though I could be there by noon if that would help. We open at 3pm and after that it is really hard to get exclusive use of the computers.If anyone can call me there on Thurs we can set up a time. Also I could call out by Magic Jack phone if it would save someone a long distance call. The Magic Jack is quite unreliable.We are getting Charter with long distance in 2 weeks but everyone is on my case to get this fixed before that. I am a volunteer. Also if another day would work I could maybe schedule that but I do volunteer other places at set hours. research,and web searches trying to solve this with no luck.reinstalling the printer on all the machines will maybe make it work for a few documents but not even that works much.
I accidentally submitted a print job twice. So I have this job sitting in the queue and haven't been able to figure out how to clear it. Tried system > administration > printing. Nothing there about how to clear the queue. I'm running 8.04.

However I am able to print through 'lp' command.CUPS updates installed.
