My mainboard is a MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum. I have 4GB of OCZ memory installed. 2GB just recently installed. In the bios, I've enabled the memory hole remapping for both HW/SW. It is not a shared memory with the onboard video. I have the onboard video disabled. I have a dedicated Nvidia card. The Bios does show a full 4GB in the system information section.
I thought that 10.04, was supposed to have the pae kernel enabled by default. Is that not the case?
am getting the hang of it & have installed various applications with no effort at all, however, I have run into a problem that I hope you can help with ?I've installed Thunderbird & it is showing "installed" in Ubuntu Software Centre but is not showing anwhere in either applications, places or system - surely it should show up in applications right
i installed ubuntu in my system after that i formatted my xp and installed it again. After installing ubuntu is not showing in the boot up screen. can any one say what to do for showing ubuntu in boot uo screen...
I installed a few services using the dolphin tools menu (configure dolphin) but they're not showing up on right-click, how can I enable them.
Here's my setup: -Ubuntu Lucid GNOME -Dolphin 1.4 -All dolphin dependencies and issues resolved (I think) by using: Code: sudo apt-get build-dep dolphin sudo apt-get install dolphin
My second problem is file search, the feature that comes with nautilus is way too slow, and catfish is lacking so many feature, I'm kind of a sucker for eye-candy, and when I tried beagle it stuck out like a sore thumb! Is there a good looking, well-developed file-search feature for the gnome desktop?
My third question is regarding the update in Lucid, it keeps telling me the following when I run: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade Code: The following packages have been kept back: linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic Is there a new kernel that it's not allowing me to use? if so, how do I get past this message?
My last issue is with nautilus, I have many large directories with tons of subdirectories (especially my music folders), and nautilus can only view them as icons, list or columns, is there a way to install a script or plugin for nautilus to make it faster and/or include some form of miller columns like in dolphin (I believe it's the best way to view large folders).
I have installed ubuntu 10.04 using wubi installer..I am dual booting ubuntu with windows 7.I have alloted 8 gb of disk space while installing ubuntu. My first question is how can i know where the installed applications are stored and how much memory they occupy and how much free space is available out of the alloted 8gb.?My second one is now i have to install RAD 7.5 which requires 3.5 gb of free space..How can i expand the disk space without the need of reinstalling ubuntu.
I used to dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu for quite some time now. Yesterday after seeing OpenSUSE installed on my friends lappy, I decided it IS the time to bid goodbye to Windows. I don't play games, just internet browsing, listening to music, some letter writing and movies of course!
So today I removed Windows XP by formatting C: drive and installed OpenSUSE.
I am happy with OpenSUSE, but I still want to dual boot OpenSUSE with Ubuntu. But in the GRUB,only OpenSUSE entry is shown, Ubuntu is nowhere. It seems OpenSUSE has overwritten the Ubuntu GRUB during install and doesn't include Ubuntu in the boot list as Ubuntu does for other OS when we install Ubuntu.
How to create an entry in the GRUB so that I am able to boot into Ubuntu also.
I know I've got inotify-tools installed; I've got a daemon that runs and it's using inotifywait to move some files around.
This thing is: 12:20:16 /home/barrie $ >> dpkg --get-selections | grep inotify* 12:20:29 /home/barrie $ >> aptitude show inotify-tools Package: inotify-tools New: yes State: not installed Version: 3.12-1 Priority: optional Section: misc Maintainer: Peter Makholm <peter@makholm.net> Uncompressed Size: 115k Depends: libc6 (>= 2.6-1), libinotifytools0 Description: command-line programs providing a simple interface to inotify inotify-tools is a set of command-line programs for Linux providing a simple interface to inotify. These programs can be used to monitor and act upon filesystem events. inotify-tools consists of two utilities: inotifywait simply blocks for inotify events, making it appropriate for use in shell scripts. inotifywatch collects filesystem usage statistics and outputs counts of each inotify event.
12:20:40 /home/barrie $ >> It's not showing up as installed! If not how to get the list of installed packages 'reloaded'. I've googled for hours and reloading the installed packages doesn't look promising!
Toshiba/Celeron/multibootI just installed Salix KDE. The install went well, afaIk...Salix does not appear on the grub, and I in fact have no way of knowing if it even exists on my machine. I have not checked anything via the console. I do not know how. All other OS's on the HDD are present on the grub, and are unaffected.I am running Kubuntu 10.04 LTS currently.
ltib is showing following package not present: rpm-build Software not installed, even though rpmbbuild is already installed. I am trying this on Ubuntu.
Recently I have installed DockbarX and Cardapio. After installation they are supposed to be found in the Add to Panel items, but both of them are not there.I can run them directly without any problem. Is there anything else I should do manually? I have tried pkill gnome-panel to restart the panel as well.
Intel 1000GT gigabit Network Card itself installed successfully and shows up under network cards. However, when I plug it into the network in place of the regular 100mbit card, it won't show up.
I am trying to write a script to calculate the total amount of installed memory to use during an anaconda kickscript, so the swap file is created at 2 x the installed memory. I so far have the amount of installed RAM DIMMS but need a way to total them up and produce a varible I can use in the pre section of the install.
Note: on some servers there could be from 1 DIMM up to 16 DIMMS installed so the script needs to be able to handle this. I also can not use bc as it does not exist during the install stage. I am guessing I need a while loop to do this and use expr but do not know where to start for this logic.
I have a desktop PC which initially had the Intel D946gzis mobo, its chipset as video controller, some RAM and so. There I installed Debian without a problem alongside WindowsXP.
I've bought an ASUS HD 4670 video card, installed it on the PC and now the installed Debian does not work, while the Ubuntu live CD refuses to run no matter if I set acpi, apic on or off... it throws me some low memory corruption at position just like shown here. With normal configuration, Debian throws kernel panic (keyboard lights blinking). Anyone have faced this before? Ideas? Thanks!! (meanwhile, debian hides in a virtualbox :'( )
Edited: Tried Ubuntu 9.10 x64 (due to the fact i've a core2duo at 2GHz) and it throws a kernel-panic to me (flashing caps and num LEDs). On screen, can be read different lines with things like:
I've got something that's really confusing me. I'm a total noob, but I read a fair bit about Ubuntu before I overwrote my windows. To make sure it worked, I used the Live run option, and it worked fine on my system. Everything worked, it notified me, however, to use the internet I'd have to download proprietary drivers (Broadcom B43 wireless driver and Broadcom STA wireless driver). I did it and my internet started working. So everything was fine and I rebooted and actually installed the OS. Once installed, it would not get internet, nor prompt for drivers being required. So I checked my manual and tried to do it manually: System / Administration / Hardware Drivers. It searched, and said there were no proprietary drivers. I thought that this was weird, so I rebooted my system "Live" again (even though it was already installed): and the Drivers were there again! They only show up in live, I can't get internet in the installed version. What's going on? How do I get these two drivers to show up on my actual installed copy, not my lie copy?
Wondering if most people have GNOME or KDE installed on their server, and how much memory do these guys consumed.
I have been running a VPS website with only 256MB of RAM fine, though memory does appear to be a bottleneck at times. So got a new server with 1GB RAM but I'm surprised to see after installing CentOS 64-bit with GNOME the memory consumption varies between 600MB-1GB.
The only difference is I've never had used any GUI desktop on the VPS (don't think the hosting company offers one). Wondering if the memory consumption came entirely from the GNOME desktop I installed.
Would most people install with GNOME, configure all the stuff required, and then remove it?
I would like to know when usb inserted, its showing cant mount when i clicked details its showing bad blocks in beginning , and smething in /dev/sd6. Can i knw why usb drive cant be mounted automatically , even if its set to do so, and to cope the error mentioned above
I have a computer with 16GB of ram. At the moment, top shows all the RAM is taken, (NOT by cache), but the RAM used by the various processes is very far from 16GB.I have seen this problem several times, but I don't understand what is happening. My only remedy so far has been to reboot the machine.
I have had a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 and installed some software after that.Since third some, some process is eating half of my memory.I have checked processes running in system manager but everything is normal.Maximum is consumed by compiz which is about 26 mb, seems very normal.I did restarted my computer several times, and in the start for 5 mins, its fine after that again my cpu fans runs at very fast speed and my one cpu is used up 95 % (I have dual core). Please help me out, this invisible thing is driving me crazy.I am attaching my htop screen shot (sorted by cpu %), now the cpu is not used by completely but fan is still struggling hard and fast.
Having one issue with evolution not showing html websites showing up in email like verizon sending a promo. I have gone to edit, preferences, mail preferences, html messages and have always load images from the internet chosen. I have also added sender to contacts. Even if I right click message and tell it to dload images it doesn't.
When I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.
Here is the output of xrandr when the laptop is connected:
I am using malloc and frees a lot in my program. It shows its allocated but when i remove it doesnt show as the memory is removed(I am using the top command to view VIRT memory usage). If this continously grows what would happen to my program (Will it go out of memory?)
I am looking to buy some memory for my netbook. Currently I have 1 GB of DDR3 memory. However, the specification says that 2 GB of memory is the max. However, when I do the following it says that 4GB is the max:
I am looking for free database that has low memory usage and innodb and memory like engins that has C API and support trigger and client/server support for using in embedded linux systems.
I am new to C and linux. My code below does arbitary writes but I cant figure out where or how it does it.
I am calling the insertNode() function with seq = 'MISSISSPPI$' and alphabets = 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ$'
Code:
Weird behaviour I should mention is that when I check for NULL pointer in node->child[index], the unassigned values are not null anymore, they point to arbitary memory.
