well i thought about trying out the new webgl feature , however i didn't get off to a good start as , all apps that i've seen on the web aren't running ?

isn't FF 5.0 supposed to be this new Uber release with the most advanced technologies enabled?
there have been many posts about trying to use FF4 with graphic acceleration and i ran into an article that discusses some of the ramifications in doing so: Context and from the information presented, it appears that mozilla's approach is to blacklist graphic drivers that are not sufficiently "malware-proof" since code from the webpage is presented directly to the graphics driver.
i was not aware of this side issue and figured many others were also uninformed, but my thoughts are that some careful consideration should be done before implementing this new functionality. Perhaps someone more knowledgable could chime in with more concise information.

I am currently redoing my setup and have installed a new cursor called Vienna3Ubuntu. I extracted it to the .icons folder, went to preferences and found it, it the cursor options list, right where it should be, but when I applied it, it only works kinda half way, the normal cursor won't change at all, and the other cursors only work in by browser and when I am reszing windows and such. Why won't the cursor work like it should? I am using compiz and I wonder if that has something to do with it. I have already tried restarting, relogging, reinstalling, and fiddling with general options in compiz.

Well the app use very high virtual memory, Gigas of it(around 500), use Linux as Calculation Server using a very large swap space. If we can't find some way to fix this trouble, we can change the Linux for some open *nix like Open Solaris, because those have fp_class_l().

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried installing NFTS Configuration Tool to auto-mount several partitions at startup, but the Configuration Tool isn't working. I've entered the terminal line to update it, but it still won't even start.
What happens is when I click on NFTS Configuration Tool under System - Administration, I'll get the prompt to enter my Administrative password. I enter it and click Ok, but then it just disappears. If I try running the Tool again, I see a window come up at the bottom of my screen titled 'System Administrative' for about half a second then disappear. If I restart or suspend and try again, I still get the same nagging problem.
I want to install Linux on my laptop. I started with Arch but 4 hours later, I'll take anything so now I'm trying Ubuntu.It appears that the keyboard function button that corresponds to my wireless does not work, and perhaps is windows dependent?Every time I try to interact with wlan0, I get the error "Operation not possible due to RF-kill". And as I've looked around online, it has been suggested in other forums that the only way to resolve this is to reinstall windows and dual boot, so the FN key will work.
I think this is ridiculous. There must be a way to persuade the RF-kill to be turned off again, shouldn't there?I don't have a recover disk for this laptop and I don't want to go through the trouble of requested one from acer. I reformatted the whole disk while attempted to install arch.
the problem i am experiencing on my laptop (hp pavillion zv5000) which runs ubuntustudio 9.10 (this problem also occurred with ubuntu 9.10, before i upgraded to ubuntu studio) is that whenever i view a video on firefox, be it videos, metacafe, and generally any site where you can see online videos, the video glitches a lot, and after a few seconds firefox grays out, and is not responsive, which means i either have to kill firefox.i am running firefox 3.5.7 with the ubuntu firefox modifications 0.8 pack added. in the preferences, on the content tab the enable java button is not ticked. the following is the list of plugins i have on firefox:

I am doing some Linux kernel programming for my research project. I need to record the timestamp (by using cpuid and rdtsc) when an interrupt handler (top half) is first invoked. Due to the time critical nature of the problem itself, I have to do the timestamping inside the interrupt handler itself (the first operation when the handler is called). However, I understand that tasks that are not so time critical should be deferred to a tasklet function (bottom half) for processing because other interrupts are disabled in a (top-half) interrupt handler. I am currently out of idea on how I can pass the timestamp information that I have obtained in the interrupt handler to the corresponding tasklet function.

That being said, is there a way to get Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() to function on the newer versions of OpenSuSE?

I'm using 'Adobe Flash plug-in 10.3.183.4ubuntu0.11.04.1', installed from the package repos on kubuntu, and since the last update, it has broken all flash functionality in both rekonq and firefox.I have tried removing and reinstalling the package multiple times, both with and without the browsers open. This is in gnome under F11.I have the Power Management Preferences set to put the display to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity and gnome screensaver is configured for 5 minutes idle time.On a regular basis, I'll leave my computer come back anda) the screensaver hasn't kicked inorb) the screensaver kicked in, but the power management features didn't kick in to put the display to sleep.It seems to be an intermittent problem and usually it goes away after I restart X, but then at some point it comes back. In the past, I've gotten in the habit of being logged in for weeks/months at a time but I find that I can't go more than a few hours without logging out and back in or else the screen won't go to sleep.
View 14 Replies View Relatedi wiped my entire hard drive that had xp as its only OS. I freshly installed a Windows 7 ultimate and everything went perfectly. I then decided to install 10.4. I split the partitions correctly (i had experience doing this already with my laptop, which has xp/10.4). Ubuntu 10.4 install went flawlessly, except for one thing. Now when i boot up the pc, it goes straight into 10.4. I have tried holding shift during the start up to force the boot menu, and it just shows the Ubuntu 10.4 OS as choices. Any clue what i could do to make Win7 appear in the boot menu?

Flash doesn't load and the light at my webcam doesn't switch on at all. Things to note:Cheese works so I know my webcam in Ubuntu is functional. I've tried purging the flash plugin and reinstalling it. It doesn't work on Chrome and Firefox so it's definitely only a flash problem. View 9 Replies View RelatedYesterday I installed F13 onto a somewhat older machine of mine, to test out some software that I've been developing, and while it works quite well in general, there's a couple of situations where gtk+ seems to be incredibly slow. Most notably, that app lets the user click-and-drag a large map inside a scrolled window; the app updates the scrollbars appropriately. On F13, the click-and-drag starts to lag behind the mouse almost immediately. I had been developing this app on another distro (Gentoo) prior to installing F13 on the machine, and never had this issue then - I've even doublechecked by booting that box onto a Gentoo LiveCD and trying from there, and the speed of click-and-drag is totally fine.
Additionally, and possibly-related: the highlighting which follows the mouse around as you mouseover the map seems to lag behind as well. Otherwise, the system responds quite quickly. Now, the box is an Athlon XP 2100+ (1.73GHz) with an nVidia 7600GS (AGP) - I've tried using all three of nv, nouveau, and the binary nVidia drivers (both from rpmfusion, and compiled from nvidia.com), and I get the same lag using any of those X drivers. I've tried changing the desktop theme (in Preferences->Appearance) to some more "basic" themes, but that hasn't affected anything. I've also tried hopping into a very basic WM outside of Gnome (icewm) but the problem persists there.
Is there some kind of global "smooth scrolling" gtk+ option I could turn off somewhere, perhaps? Run into this kind of weird, selective gtk+ slowness before? I hadn't thought to try before, but I've just verified that I get the same behavior with the "vesa" driver. The system is otherwise snappy, but that click-and-drag is still horribly slow. I just tried it out on an Ubuntu LiveCD, and the speed is also totally fine on there. Just, you know, as one more datapoint. So I went ahead and put together a simple test-case which is removed from the actual application, and it still exhibits the same behavior for me. On Fedora 13 it's quite laggy, on other distros on the same hardware it's totally fine. [URL]
I briefly installed OpenSuSe 11.3 64 bit on my Lenovo laptop last night only to find an app critical to me would not run with Crossover Linux Pro on 11.3, so I reverted back to 11.2
That isn't a problem for me. What I could not find in 11.3 was SCPM. I use my laptop quite a bit and used scpm to set the nfs network up for each different site I logged into. I did not see how to do this with 11.3, but assume I looked in the wrong places. how to do this with 11.3?
