View 2 RepliesRecently I've been having problems with the internet whilst using Ubuntu 10.10 (Dual booting with Windows Vista Home Premium x32). The problem is I simply can't use my internet (can't connect and the option doesn't show up). At first it said (using wireless internet by the way), firmware missing. After playing around for a bit, I managed to get a option to install my internet card driver (Broadcom).
As I try to install it says this:

But when I run in Live CD mode all drivers install automatically and my WI-FI device work properly.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Centos. During the installation, I noticed that only sound was being tested during the installation. Once everything has been installed successfully. I can run Centos with no problem. However, when I tried to switch from one window (browser) to another. The display was slow. Thus, I suspected the driver for the graphic card of my PC is not being installed successfully. When I type /sbin/lspci | grep VGA in the terminal, I get the following output:

Then, I went to the dell support & driver site to download the driver. In the readme file, it is suggested to install dkms first before installing the graphics driver by typing rpm -ivh dkms-2.1.0.1-1.noarch.rpm
I managed to install the dkms without any error.However, when I use rpm to install the graphics driver as suggested by the readme file:
rpm -ivh dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64.rpm
I get the following errors: error: Failed dependencies:
libX11.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64
libXext.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64[code]....
Since the above errors may be related to the missing packages then I use yum provides and install to find the missing packages. Even I try to install all the matched packages, i still cant install the driver for my graphic card. To be honest, i am not very sure whether I am doing the right things or not. how to solve this slow display problem when switching from one application to another.
I'm using ubuntu karmic and I'm not able to connect to the internet with my reliance netconnect data card using network manager. Other distros like fedora, opensuse n sabayon connected easily with nm. Ubuntu detects the data card flawlessly but just doesnt connect.This problem has been persistent even in previous ubuntu versions, n I used to use wvdial. But downloading wvdial on some other comp with every dependency is really cumbersome.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHeres the set up I have: one eeepc running ubuntu netbook. with a usb wifi dongle, this is connected to a parabolic antenna i made out of pizza boxes and tin foil. One fujitsu laptop running ubuntu 10.10. the eee connects to the internet via the dongle. then the laptop connects to the eee. I set this up by using network manager. I created a new wirless connection and called it "UbuntuAdhoc". The on-board card connected to this without issue and the laptop was able to connect to the new wireless broadcast by the eees on-board card.
This worked perfectly untill I rebooted the eee. Now the eee is unable to conect to the internet if the on-board caard is conected to "ubuntuadhoc". also the dongle now wants to conect to "ubuntuadhock" too.
I just installed Linux Mint 9 as a dual boot install with Win XP. Trying to activate wireless network card driver and video driver. Pops up: "You are not authorized to perform this action".How do I get authorized?
Now every time I boot Win XP, the Internet Explorer menu bar is all blacked out and goofy. If I log out and back in it corrects itself. If I reboot it's blacked out again. Re-installed IE8. Still blacks out.Also Firefox in Win XP crashes expectantly. It has NEVER crashed on me previously.
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04, I'm not able to make any connection to the internet with either my netbook through WiFi or my computer on wired LAN. I can, however, ping my Solaris machines and Macbook. How do I fix this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an old Radeon 9250, reported as RV280 in hardware info, the current driver is radeon but the performance looks very suspicious to me.
In browsers, for example, simply scrolling down a page shoots CPU to 100%.
It could be the browser issue but at this point I tend to think that I need the proprietary Ati driver, the problem is that my card is "legacy" and simply installing their driver from their repo won't work for 11.3.
So, what are my options here?
Is Radeon driver tweakable in any way?
If fglrx is the better solution - what are the general steps to install an older driver? There's so much to read on it and I can't figure out what is applicable to my case and what isn't.
Maybe I should just revert to 11.2?
I tried checking Opera forums, it doesn't seem like a browser issue and it works just fine on 11.3 with a different graphic card anyway. I wouldn't mention it at all but older versions of Opera, below 10.11, comparing to 10.61 in repos or 10.62 on their site, work extremely fast without any lag, or any latest improvements, for that matter. Chrome appears faster but CPU still shoots up to 100% on page scroll.
Or should I just buy a new card? They are not very expensive but then my motherboard might support only what is now "legacy". It's AGP, not PCI express or whatever it's called now. In that case, should I go for nVidia or Ati? I've got AMD processor, if it matters.
I have unfortunately found myself unable to properly boot up openSUSE because I decided to buy the Acer Aspire with the i5 Processor.
I have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) graphics card, and unfortunately from all my searching online and on openSUSE, I have been unable to find a driver for this that works for linux, and in addition I don't know how to install a driver outside of a GUI.
My openSUSE boots up to the boot choosing screen (regular openSUSE or failsafe), and then that nice list of functions being done is displayed, but as soon as the daemon has started, suddenly my screen goes blank and I am unable to do anything about it. Beyond this point, my OS loses all functionability, and while I can hear it computing, I am unable to actually tell WHAT it is computing. get a driver for this and to install this driver and get this GUI running, that would be great.

When I run the 64bit 9.10 Live CD everything works well in Ubuntu. However when I remove the Live CD and return to Windows I find a splat for a multimedia device. I have to reinstall the drivers for the Creatix SAA7134 TV card. I have to do this everytime I run the Live CD. This problem is putting me off dual booting between Windows and Ubuntu. I thought that the idea of the Live CD is that it has no effect on the installed OS. It appears thet Ubuntu does something to the card which Windows then has to recover from.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi was trying to uninstall old nvidia driver and install new driver via terminal. i used these commands (sudo dpkg -p nvidia -173; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove) and then this is the one that froze up on me (sudo apt-get install nvidia-current)computer froze while installing the new driver. now i cant boot up ubuntu 11.04. i get the grub menu but cant boot OS. i cant get recovery mode to boot either. it stops after it reads my dvd drive. i dont remember exactly what i did to get this message but i got a message that says alloc magic is broken at 0xb7ce5c80. im assuming that i have no graphics card driver installed and this is why i cant boot. is there anyway to boot from a live cd and manually install the graphics card driver? im on a dual boot with win7 and upgraded from ubuntu 10.10 so i dont really want to do a clean install and have to install tons of software etc.

I have ran the lspci command to find out my wireless card is Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 and I found the driver for this card at:it won't let me post the URL for some reason...but i googled "Broadcom BCM4313 driver for linux" and it's the first link.I downloaded the 32-bit driver but now I have absolutely no idea what to do.The download has folders named lib and src, and a text file called Makefile.
