Software :: Setup A Calendar / Scheduling System (or Online Service)
Jul 18, 2011
i am looking for ideas to set up a calender/ scheduling system (or online service) for a doctor's office to set up patient appointments. i would like to set it up so that only the doctor, technician and receptionist can access it and set up appointments from 3 different computers.
i have added a tomcat startup service using chkconfig. I have set up JAVA_HOME and JRE_HOME as well ass alternatives to point to the correct location.I have an init script in /etc/init.d. When i start the tomcat service using [ /etc/init.d/<x> start ] everything works fine and the environment variables for JAVA_HOME and JRE_HOME are used correctly. Now i added the service <x> using chkconfig --add so that it can start on boot up. But now the service does not use the system environment variable for JAVA and JRE setup by me.Also after complete bootup if i try to start the service using [ service <x> start] the environment variable in the shell are not used. don't want to exclusively declare variables for JAVA_HOME and JRE_HOME in the init script.
If I wanted to schedule a perl script to run every weekday at 1800 hours, should I setup a cron job. once I do so, if I want to cancel it, how do I undo it. Do I have to just type this at the shell prompt to set up:
Can anybody recommend an online storage service that works with Linux and preferably Slackware? Free would be nice but a small monthly fee is ok too. I'm looking for an offsite storage to backup a small collection of files, mostly documents, maybe around 2Gb total and encryption would be probably required. Nightly transfers would come from a Slackware 12.2 file server, but I can upgrade it to current version if needed.
For the troubleshooting of one server (having 73Gb 3HDD, Raid5 of 140Gb). When I check in the Array The Logical Vol Appears as One HDD not Online 0 HDD1 1 HDD2 2 HDD3 0 HDD not showing Online, When we set it for Oneline & save, After restarting it will go off.
I live in a crowded area so I have to use headphones almost all of the time. I just leave them plugged in so when an alarm goes off from Thunderbird or Evolution, I can't hear it. Is there a way to get some use out of my internal system speaker and have a reliable calendar-event-reminder and alarm? I'm talking about the one that will beep from inside the computer even if you have headphones plugged in.
I was wondering if anyone uses kmymoney? I am trying to setup an online account but I get errors when I try to map to an online account.my bank is M&T bank and quicken 2007 is no longer supported.
How do i setup an email service? I have my server configured and everything (ip tables, fail2ban, able to access it, open ports, blah blah blah) and now i want to get me some emailing service on it!
I'm trying to setup QoS for my VoIP line on my debian router box. I have tested wondershaper and to me it doesn't seem to work at all, so I'm looking for a better solution. Ultimately I would like something in the lines of [URL] but I guess such nice things doesn't exist for linux. Currently I'm on an ADSL link switching to cable in a few months.
I am trying to accomplish an objective, I need to get 389 Directory server installed in the process however is it possible to just have email addresses of users in the LDAP server? I have a primary domain, example 'abcefg.com' with about 3,000 users and several hosted domains like 'xyz.com' and 'mno.com'. The end goal is to speed up email processing, so instead of the Barracuda asking the email server(s) if a user exist it queries the LDAP.
Is there a way to configure 389 Directory Server to contain just the email addresses of the end users to allow the Barracuda to poll the LDAP server to verify the email address is valid. The rest of the authentication like password is handled by the email server. So in the end the LDAP server would just contain the email addresses (live) and the Barracuda would query the LDAP asking if joebob@abcefg.com exist if it does carry on. If user xxeedd@abcefg.com does not exist drop it and go on.
I've 7 PC's on my network. I've to setup an internal mail service, to send mails inside the network. I've installed Fedora 12 on one machine and the rest run's on Windows XP. What all packages do I need? How can I configure it?
My actual mail is via pop3 from verizon. What I've done so far is just pull my pop3 mail onto my main machine at my house. But I'm finding I'd rather have a single imap server on my network so then all my machines could see the same mail.
I don't really want the imap server to poll verizon for mail, I just want the imap server to check pop3 mail at verizon only when one of my mail apps checks into it to look for mail.
Im running a virtual linux server on a low-end system, and i wold like to configure the server to boot in terminal window and not to the Gnome log in window, this is because of the low specs on the hardware.
I accidentally deleted one of the libraries in /lib or /usr/lib and now when I boot into Debian, it won't load the GUI. I get an error message saying that something failed because the library needed did not exist (I couldn't read it because the text was scrolling by so fast, so I don't know exactly what it said). I need to find an archive or something of all the system libraries for Lenny so I can reinstall them. Is there a place online where I can download them?

I need an alarm / reminder system for all the crap I have going on. I want one that will pop up and remind me of a given task. Sounds, bleeps, rings, bells, etc., would also be great. Doesn't evolution have such a thing? IF not, what about online options. But I really prefer sg on this computers so I can still get the reminders when I am offline.
My system slows much down so that i cannot use it at all when am watching any online videos or movies am using firefox 3.6.13 .

I have recently loaded Linux Mint on an old IBM Laptop and am very happy with the GUI; however, I would like to learn how to use the Linux shell/terminal. I don't know any of the commands. Is there a good online source for this information--a tutorial or list?
Yesterday Ubuntu One stopped syncing properly: all files and folders were listed on the web site grayed out and tagged with "uploading", while there was "0 bytes Used". I could still upload files manually to the website fairly quickly, so it probably wasn't purely server overload. Anyway, a number of things happened after that:uninstalled the Ubuntu One client packages and reinstalled them in Account settings on the website, I removed my computer, hoping to make a fresh start the Ubuntu online account login system for some reason forced me to change my password (presumably it wasn't strong enough)
After all that, I can still login to the website (with the new password), but the computer can't login. When I type u1sdtool -s in terminal, the result is
Code:
When I open Ubuntu One Preferences from the Me menu, it completely freezes at the Account tab; I can't click anything or even close it (have to kill it in terminal).
I suppose the login failure has to do with the old password whcih was saved in the keyring. The removed computer from the account probably complicates the issue.
My Ubuntu 9.10 Server does not automatically get an ip address at start up and I have to run
Code: sudo dhclient
every time so I it connects to the network, gets an ip etc. This is fine so long as I am physically present. If I am accessing it remotely using SSH and reboot the system there's no way I can connect back again untill someone runs a sudo dhclient on the machine.
No I am trying to add dhclient to startup automatically. I was hoping to put it in /etc/rc2.d but to be able to run the script must be present in /etc/init.d. The dhclient command is located in /sbin
Creating a sym link in etc/init.d to point to /sbin/dhclient hasn't worked for me so far. I can't copy the command to /etc/init.d before running
Code: update-rc.d dhclient default?? How else do I have it run at system start?
I am familiar with windows 2008 cluster servers, and I just started testing with centos cluster. I am creating a simple 2-node cluster, for a simple ping test.
So far, I can ping a virtual ip, and manually relocate it between the nodes, but I didn't figure out, how to do this automatically. So this is my question: How can I setup the cluster, to it automatically failover the a service to another node case one node fails?
dear, in centos / fedora, I can config to start a permanent vnc session by setting the /etc/sysconfig/vncserver file when the system starts. Is there any similar configuration in opensuse which give me a permanent session?
