Software :: Program To Mass-resize Jpegs/pngs?

Mar 20, 2010

Is there a way to take a whole directory of pictures that are of various dimensions and scale them all down to conform to, say, an 800x600 (or 600x800) boundary?

Better yet is it possible to also ignore and not size-up files that are, say, 400x300?

I am command line savvy so if it can be done via some kind of script I'm cool with that.

Red Hat :: Icons Not Displaying Properly And .pngs Not Loading - Centos 5.5?

Nov 29, 2010

I am running Centos 5.5 X86_64 and recently after updating my server, I am having problem loading gnome. When the server boots, and begins to bring up the login screen theme, I get an error that states "Could not recognize the image file format for /usr/share/gdm/themes/TreeFlower/background.png" I am able to login after clicking ok to this message, and using the "simplistic" login manager. But when the users desktop loads, there are several errors pertaining to "unsupported image format" and none of the icons are displaying correctly. They are just the default "curvy page" icon for an unassociated file type. Some of the icons do not even show up at all.

Another thing I noticed wierd is that when I try to view a png, nothing happens. When I try to open one using gimp, I get an "unsupported file type" error. When I tried to click on the "add/remove software" button I get prompted for root pass, but nothing happens. So, I tried launching pirut from CLI, and I received the following error:

Quote:

[root@server ~]# pirut
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/sbin/pirut", line 41, in ?
from pirut import *

Debian :: Nemo Won't Preview Network Files (JPGs And PNGs)

Nov 7, 2015

I have noticed i cannot get nemo to preview jpgs and pngs that are located on a network drive (smb).

I can preview these file types locally, but not in the network storage.

I have tried changing: Edit > Preferences > Preview

So that:

Show thumbnails: Always
Only for files smaller than: 1GB

This has had no effect, i still cannot preview network jpgs and pngs for some reason.

Red Hat :: Unable To Select PNGs As Desktop Wallpaper - JPEG Backgrounds

Apr 21, 2010

I switched our main fileserver to new hardware running RHEL 4 Update 8 yesterday. Post the switch my users are finding that the text in the boxes on taskbars at the bottom of their desktop screens no longer truncates but spills over onto that of other boxes, making them extremely hard to decipher.

All our desktops are RHEL 4.8 too. Also, I'm only able to select PNGs as desktop wallpaper - JPEG backgrounds just appear as plain white when selected(!) Has anyone seen this before and knows of a fix?

Debian Multimedia :: Konqueror Stopped Displaying Thumbnails Of JPGs, PNGs

May 4, 2010

I just installed KDE and I had 2 minor problems with Konqueror:

1) Every time I emptying the trash, I'm getting the error message: "The file or folder /...path here.../.Trash-1000/files/...filename here does not exist.". Seems like I had deleted this file, and before emptying the trash, I deleted somehow this file outside Debian installation (probably from a live cd). Other than that, trash is working OK. I'm just wondering if there's a way to get rid of the error message. (Of course emptying the trash from command line, doesn't brings any message).

2) Konqueror stopped displaying thumbnails of JPGs, PNGs etc. (with the exception of Photobook view, which is not very convenient for large number of photos).

I bypassed this problem, installing d3lphin (since dolphin is not available for lenny), and browsing the photo catalogs with it.

Ubuntu :: Recovering Corrupted JPEGs On SD Card?

Oct 12, 2010

I needed to use an SD card for something unusual today, but wanted to preserve all the photos on it. So I unmounted it and ran...

$ sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=/home/kip/Desktop/Camera.bin bs=1MB

...to make a backup of the complete card, partitions included. I used the card for other purposes, umounted again, and then wrote back the image with...

$ sudo dd if=/home/kip/Desktop/Camera.bin of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=1MB

I unmounted, removed the card, and then re-inserted to find most of the JPEGs corrupted. I can see some pixels, but they are all mangled.

I fear the blocksize (bs=1MB) may have been the culprit and should have been 512 (bytes) for a card containing a fat16 formatted partition.

I have googled and come across this [URL] which says when there is a pdf generation, everything is recompressed, hence the blurriness. How is there a way around this? What do I tweak to ensure pictures are left alone (I already ensure they are as small as possible) when I convert anything to pdf?

General :: Covert Multiple Jpegs To One Pdf File In UBUNTU?

Mar 22, 2010

One of the most common qs i see in forums is >>> How to convert multiple jpg files to one one pdf file by one click . I have got 2 solutions that I consider solve this situation to the best ....

*1.* Install SCRIBUS from synaptic package manager . It can convert jpegs to pdf without any issues . F Spot Photo Manager can also be used .

*2.* This 2nd step I find much better ....
I have been using it myself for some time now ... and its flaw less ...

A) Install WINE using the terminal . For beginers .... Its a software that can run selected windows applications on a linux destro like ubuntu. Installing is very easy >>>> open synaptic manager and in quick search box type Wine. Once the wine files show in the search mark them for installation. For details on easy manual for wine installation check here .. [URL]

B) Now go to the page below .... Its a free software.

[URL]

Down load and save the software from the link given . Open the file using wine ( Right click on the file and choose the option open with wine.) The installer will run and the programme will be installed . And Viola ... Its ready .... Import ur jpg files and merge them all in to 1 pdf file .. Very Useful In Merging Comics together.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Create Video From JPEGs - Use Mencoder To Add The Audio?

Jan 18, 2010

My 1st and only grandson turned 1 year old and we have taken about 1 million pics of him. I wanted to make a video from pictures taken in the past year. The first one is an ultra sound picture. The last one was taken this last Saturday. I have 153 12 MPixel pictures in a folder. They are named C001.jpg - C153.jpg (I can rename them if needed).

I had noticed mencoder or ffmpeg can create movies from jpegs. But, I didn't think about the frames per second. Would I need to make like 20 copies of each picture and then make it like 10 FPS? or something like that? Optimally, I would like to have a video where each picture lasts for 8-10 seconds or so and I would be able to add a song as audio. (I think I know how to use mencoder to add the audio).

General :: Copying Jpegs Recursively While Preserving The Directory Structure?

Aug 9, 2010

So I have a bunch of directories:

dir1
dir2
dir3
etc.

which themselves all contain subdirectories:

dir1subdir1subdir2etc.and at the lowest level they contain all of these jpegs that I need. The problem is that I only need some of them. They're named like this:

pic1.jpg
pic1_med.jpg
pic1_small.jpg
pic2.jpg
pic2_med.jpg
etc.

I want to just grab the ones without the size suffix and copy them all to another set of folders, while preserving the directory structure. The numbering all starts at 1 for each low level subdirectory, so I think that the directory structure is the only way to not get them mixed up.

I know that cp has a recursive option -r but how do I just extract the ones without the underscore? And then how do I preserve the directory structure when I move them over?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mass Video Encoder With A GUI?

Jun 28, 2010

I've got a bunch of wmv files that I'd like to re-encode to avi - about 50 of them. Is there a straightforward GUI application that does the same thing as Sound Converter does with audio files? As in, add a folder full of files, select the output format and output filename/folder, click "convert", and come back a few hours later.

Yes I know I can convert video files with mencoder and ffmpeg, but doing it file by file at the command line means I can't leave it running overnight or something.

I found something called Arista but the only output options are designed for specific hardware, ie. iPods and PSPs. I just want to convert the wmv's to avi's, not mess around with resolution etc. Also, with Arista you still need to add the files one at a time.

Security :: Crashing Apache Mass Connection?

Aug 29, 2010

Basically, this is not the first time it happened, but the third I would say. My trouble and concern is with this massive downloading targeting a test file of mine/client file of mine. Since my server couldn't support that many connections child process spawns, my apache server crashed.

I managed to solve it by closing the client's account, preventing the attack from continuous download. Another way I could solve it was by replacing the file they attempted to attack with 0 byte file.

I'm wondering if there is a possible solution to prevent such issue in future. I'm also not very sure what kind of attack this is. Could it be DDOS? But from what I've asked, some said it wasn't DDOSed, if it was, my whole server would go down, not only apache.

What I was curious was how these attacker found out the files that were stored on the server. These files were not leaked outside, nor there could be a possibility to access that folder because it was protected by .htaccess which deny everyone.

Ubuntu :: Kernel Lock With Usb Mass Storage Device ?

Feb 2, 2010

I just discovered that inserting any USB drive causes an immediate hang of the system. The keyboard caps lock and scroll lock lights blink. Only recourse is to power cycle the system. This is after installing Kubuntu 9.10 in January, I don't believe I had occasion to insert a USB drive until tonight. 100% reliable. No entries in logs, presumably because it hangs the kernel when it happens. The /var/log/kern.log file has been corrupted due to file system damage (1+ sectors of some other file inserted into chain) and probably other files as well.

I've not had occasion to report other bugs, but I've found no way to report anything other than application bugs. I tried using "ubuntu-bug kernel" which helpfully said there was no such application as 'kernel' and has been busy "collecting problem information" for the last half hour or more. Somehow I don't think its ever going to finish.

The crash only happens when booted into Kubuntu 9.10. If I boot off of 9.04 then USB drives work fine. Both USB drives I've tried reliably produce the crash. One is a random cheap USB thumb drive (imprinted "Cisco"), the other is a 16GB Corsair Voyager.
