I have a document with page numbers in the Table of Contents in Roman Numurals. I would like to change them to numbers 1, 2, 3. How would I do this? I'm not finding any help on the Internet and in Openoffice help. If I change the numbers manually, they will revert back when I update the Table of Contents.

I have a Table of Contents that I need to edit. Some of the levels are out. It has 7 parts. Part 3 is buried under Part 2. Is there a way to fix this and bring out Part 2 to be a main heading in the Table of Contents? Is there an easy way to do this, or do I need to edit the entire Table? The entries in the Table are linked throughout the document. I've looked at a few tutorials on the Internet, but am still uncertain about how to do this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to find any info on a terminal command that lists the contents of a directory with page breaks so that I can view the contents of a very large folder (such as /usr/bin) because if I use ls, it prints so many names that scrolling up won't even cover all of them. We all know the obvious solution is to use a graphical file browser, but I tend to shy away from depending on graphical utilities simply because command line feels faster.

I have been using a kubuntu 10.10 till last week when it could not complete do-release-upgrade, so I downloaded kubuntu 11.04, specifying that I did not want my /home partition to be formatted, and went ahead with the installation. I used ext4 under 10.10 and selected ext4 again for 11.04, yet when I first rebooted after the completion of the installation, I could not find any of my files in that partition (except a newly created user home folder with the same user name as the old one). But when I looked at du -h, it's 92% full. I know I have set the mount point correctly, so it shouldn't be a fstab problem. What I should do to recover the files?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a document, saved in MS Word, which comes to a total of 688 pages (A4). The same document opened in OOO writer 3.2 in Windows shows the same number of pages but when I open it in OOO writer 3.2 on xubuntu it gives me 793 pages. I checked all the page size settings I could find in OOO and everything is set to A4 as far as I can see.
Any obvious thing I could be overlooking?
I have an unallocated space at the end of my hdd, which is about 10 gb. I installed Pardus on that space, but then deleted the partition to install something else (I know I did not have to delete it, I could simply install the new thing over it), i dont remember exactly how, but it was from my Debian System, not from a LiveCD.Now, I am unable to use that space. GParted gives an error and says:Warning: the kernel failed to re-read the partition tableon /dev/sda (Device or resource nusy). As a result, it may not reflect all of your changes until after reboot.

Hyperlink toolbar button performs no action In order to place a hyperlink at the cursor, you have to click the pull-down menu by the hyperlink button on the toolbar. Clicking on the button has no effect.
I think it should be equivalent to inserting the hyperlink as text. Persistent extending hyperlink mode When you place the insertion point immediately following a hyperlink and start typing, the hyperlink text extends; there is no way to cancel that effect. In particular, in the situation when a new document contains only a hyperlink, everything you type, either in front or at the end, becomes a part of it. The only way out of this situtation is to clear the hyperlink text and press Enter; the hyperlink is then replaced with an explicit URL and you can type further without extending the hyperlink.
No apply on Close There is another undocumented button in the Standard Toolbar that opens the Hyperlink dialog box. This box behaves in a very peculiar way: when you click on the button [Close], the box closes without updating anything. In order to apply the changes you have to press [Apply] and only then [Close]. In OpenOffice spreadsheet, using the Page break preview you should be able to move the thick lines that indicate the separation between pages. Some versions ago you could do it normally. But now it's impossible. You can just move the thick line that indicates the limit of the print area.Has anybody noticed this? Is there any solution? In Ooo for Windoze it's possible, but I prefer not to use it unless is absolutely necessary.

This is rather queer, as I know what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure what it is called, or whether it exists in Writer.
I'm writing a report, and I would like to have the content (index) page configured "automatically", so that it lists my headings in the rest of the document, but if I add something in the middle of what has already been written then it should pick that up and change the content page accordingly, without messing up the page numbers.
It's quite a pain to make a content page by hand. I think MS Word has a tool to allow you to do this, but I don't want to use MS Word in this case for various reasons. So does anyone know what this is called and perhaps how it is done on Writer. Although, if I know what it's called, I can use the Help.
I know this is more of the Openoffice question but I felt I would find some solution here for this. At my work I am using lot of PDF files which are created using Openoffice Calc (Spreadsheet). I want to convert those PDFs to Calc file again for editing. Currently I am using a windows Machine with able2extract pdf converter for converting PDFs to .xls file. But it is not ideal solution for Linux and Openoffice users here.

I am done with the installations and all but seem to have a problem. i cannot format my flash drive. It now shows as a live CD (800 or so mb). Is there a way to fix the partition table back? I guess if i copy a partition table image from some other 8 gb drive that might fix the problem but i dont have any other flash drives. Is there a solution possible or am i stuck with a live usb forever

A couple of days I started using latex and have still one question about the table width. My table is too wide for a page. How can I adjust it so that it fits on the full width of a page? Can I use a command or do I have to specify each column widths by hand?

I always enjoyed the feature in Microsoft Word when in "Print Layout" where I could make the end of one page touch the beginning of the next page so the pages could be viewed seamlessly. There appears to be no way to do this in Writer Anybody know if this is possible in Writer?
As a work around I use WEb Layout to view documents. But everytime I reopen OpenOffice it defaults to Print Layout. Anybody know how to make it default to Web Layout when it is opened?
