Is there any web-based open source solution(web-based) for Employee's Time and Attendance ?
As i know that TimeTrex is one of the solutions , but is there any other open source software for time ,attendance and payroll other then TimeTrex , so that i can make comparison and select the the one which suits my requirements.
I have a Broadcom BCM4312 LP-PHY in this machine. I was informed theres an open source driver for broadcom cards (brcm80211), but it doesn't seem to support this chipset. In the spirit of Debian, is there another driver available?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am mainly a Windows admin, but I do *NIX administration from time to time, for now I need to use an open source solution for backup windows environment mainly, I spent last days playing with bacula and backupPC, and I then chose backupPC, I built a solution with it seems working not bad, but before i go on deeper, I thought asking geeks here better, my main experience with back was with Vertias/Symantec Backup Exec, what do you recommend as most similar backup solution in Ubuntu offer a close level (I don't backup to tapes I back to hard disks), also a gui is preferred, while backupPC do a nice work and i handled its client config file (machine_name.pl), but I still do mistakes sometimes and troubleshooting is annoying, I have to backup files from users machines some of these files are running (like PST files), and I could need to backup a database or something from time to time. so whats your opinion all?

Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ?
To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.

I use basic ssh and scp on a regular basis and sometimes for file transfer... certainly over public networks. However, often I want to transfer large (several GB) files from one place on my LAN to another.
I've read that FTP is the fastest, and when I'm transfering many GB, fast matters. Of course I know it's not secure, but I don't need security on my home wired LAN. What I do need many times is preservation of date and time of each file when uploading. Filezilla does that and I use it, but sometimes I need a CLI solution. I have use ncFTP and been happy with it until I realized it doesn't preserve date and time on uploads (probably not on downloads either, haven't looked).
Is there a CLI FTP solution out there that will preserve file date and time information on file transfers (including uploads)?
I hope this is in the right spot, and I have searched but haven't been able to find anything to help me out.
I installed GIMP recently, it worked for awhile, but now it will not open up even after the 'Starting GIMP...' appears. That goes and nothing happens. I've tried un-installing and installing via the software centre as well as via the terminal with no success. Will be happy to go through steps again if someone gives me some guidance.
I have a set of machines on a disconnected network. Periodically, one of the machines connects to the internet and synchronizes its time with a time server that is not known until the connection is established. (The machine queries a central command server for the address of the time server it should synchronize to.)
I then use a custom tool to do some calculations to call adjtimex() and adjust the clock so that it runs fairly accurately.
I know ntpd is supposed to be able to handle disconnected networks but I thought you had to preconfigure the servers in the configuration file.
My intent is to run ntpd on this machine (without configured "server"s) so that it can serve time to the internal network. (Periodic synchronization using ntpdate from the internal machine to the bridge machine.)
The problem: ntpd wants to fuss with the values I set using adjtimex(). I want it to quit thinking it needs to adjust the clock and just serve time to the internal network. (Maybe I have a GPS time source hooked directly to the machine!)
I have a LAN which is totally disconnected from Internet. Therefore, there is no possible syncrhonisation with online time reference.
Thus, I need an hardware source of time to maintain synchronisation between systems.
Do you know what could to provide the time ?
I can't use radio device, I can't receive radio in the room.
I can not seem to find a pdf viewer browser plugin other than the actual craprobat plugin from Adobe. The default Ubuntu install comes with a perfectly good open source stand alone pdf viewer, but this means that the browser has to save it to your download directory then run the external viewer, and eventually your download directory is all cluttered up. I would much rather just view the pdf in the browser.Is there no open source browser plugin?

However, I do like how all the hard work is done for you and you can spend more time implementing, then actually coding stuff like socket classes, date/time classes and other wrappers to make the complex C/C++ code easier to use and tie with each other I have a custom library that I've been adding to as I need stuff, but then I got thinking, there must be something out there with everything I need to code applications, that is easy to use and more reliable and efficient then anything I'd ever make.
Does such framework exist?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been testing with the ATI Catalyst drivers. I have made a package from the 9.12. I have found that they were not working the way I want, so i tried to switch back via synaptic. I have removed everything which had to do to "fglrx"
now when I restart, here is the message i get

For information, it does start in low graphic mode. I have reinstalled the "fglrx" module, but the problem is still the same. If I reinstall the fglrx drivers from synaptic or terminal, I am back with the newer catalyst driver. I cannot switch back to the ubuntu repository one it seem.

I want to know how to remove unwanted Open Source Software not listed in Ubuntu Software Center. I tried to used Add/Remove Program. That did not work for me.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've read about the open source PIM Chandler and how it's kind of a new twist on software of its kind (although I guess I missed the release by a few years...) and I've been dying to try it out. I've had no success, however. It seems the most recent release is for Jaunty and I'm running Maverick. I guess there are some pretty well entrenched dependency issues. These talk about it: here and here. There doesn't seem to be a solution anywhere.. Does anyone have a potential solution to this? Has anyone even heard of Chandler?
