I am trying to mount a .md file in CDlinux and getting errors. I want to mount a module file in CDlinux and when I type the following command mount - o loop -t base-cdl.md /mount/tmp (or any other directory name) I got the error mount: mount point mount/tmp does not exist.
Okay, so on occasion when I boot into ubuntu I get this error
[mount: mounting /dev /root/dev failed: no such file or directory] [mount: mounting /dev /root/sys failed: no such file or directory] [mount: mounting /dev /root/proc failed: no such file or directory]

I get the error when I open any of the kernel versions or any recovery mode. Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop is the only OS installed on the computer, which is a Lenovo S10-3. I can eventually get it to go away, sometimes by repeatedly unplugging it and plugging it back in, and sometimes I will boot into GParted, do nothing, then restart and it will work.I have found some solutions online, but all of them involve the error happening as a result of dual booting with Windows.I have made no major system changes recently, so I can't see anything like that being the problem.
First of all: it's been more than 12 years ago since I worked with Linux, and a lot has changed in the meantime. But I considered it a challenge to install Ubuntu 9.10 and lateron upgraded to 10.04 LTS without any troubles, until now:
Except my main partition ("/") all other partitions fail to mount. All NTFS partitions from my other OS and also 2 other linux ext4 partitions I've made are not accessible anymore. and, what bothers me the most: I deleted those 2 new linux partitions in the meantime because I couldn't access them initially because Root was the owner (Duh! root is standard disabled in Ubuntu, right?). After an attempt to try to automount all partitions following the help guides I got now big grey errors on my splashscreen while booting, telling that an error occured with e.g. /media/Backup because it is missing or it cannot be mounted, with 3 options below: waiting, skipping or using a command prompt to solve this. I always choose Skip for safety.
Now if I want to see the content of all my other partitions I got a popup telling me unable to mount e.g. /media/Downloads and the message included:
I have a problem in my ubuntu 10.01 that it can't load a drive/volume in ubuntu. When I tried, it said: "Unable to mount location Error mounting: mount: /dev/sda1: can't read superblock". And when I boot my pc with 'Windows', it said : "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" under a blue screen. What can I do to solve this problem?
I've just made the switch from Ubuntu to Debian Squeeze and am having trouble connecting external media (be it a USB stick or an ext HD). The error I am getting when I connect anything via usb is the following:

We recently moved to a new home and I am trying to get my home file/print server set up again. Thanks to swerdna's excellent website, I got my server box (just upgraded from 11.0 to 11.2) running Samba and serving my shares over the network, and my "client" machines can access them without a problem.However, I'm not having much luck setting up CIFS mounts on my Linux desktop. I have my all-purpose user added to the Samba auth list (via smbpasswd), and configured my client as swerdna's howto's specify, and I can access the files just find. My computer has been acting quite strange lately. It's been taking longer to boot, and my sound doesn't play anymore (Only a high pitched sound is heard, and no hardware for sound is detected). Just recently, my Windows 7 Partition returned the error of Disk Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.
Any way I can fix my whole issue, I think my desktop is starting to die on me :O (And its only about 7 months old T_T)
my windows xp system has recently been messed up, everytime i boot, i see the windows logo and then it reboots so i decided to liveboot ubuntu in order to recover the important files on my hard drive and then reboot. Problem is when i try to click on my "500GB Filesystem" I get this message.Unable to mount 500GB FilesystemError mounting: mount exited with code 13:ntfs_attr_pread_i:ntfs_pread failed:/input/output error Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap:Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk/f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice.The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/directory(e.g./dev/mapper/nividia_eahaabcc1). what does this error message mean? im trying to mount an ipod in disc mode. let me know if there is a way to manually mount it to get around this. but not too technical, the simpler the language, the easier i will understand it.
I just built an AMD Phenom II Six Core with 4 Gigs Ram a 160Gib / and swap, and (2) Two Tb mirror for Raid (data storage) I had been using DMRAID in the deprecated box but this box has MDADM v3.1.4 - 31st August 2010 from source (on MDADM wikipedia).
I have no permission problems with using the raid and dmraid is un-installed. The raid is working perfectly and is mounted in my fstab with ext4 defaults 0 2 as my options.
I have two exports /media/raid/Test /test
Both show IP and subnet on the showmount -e for the server. I can mount the test just fine on the server. I cannot, however, mount the /media/raid/Test error: mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting hostname:/media/raid/Test Using dmraid I am able to have the deprecated box export and mount nfs shares from the raid but using MDADM on the new computer, I cannot. I get similar results with pointing MYSQL's data folder to a location on the "/media/raid/Database" (even with apparmor entries).
since running update manager on my daughters net running 10.04 netbook on boot up I get the following on the screen

Doesn't seem to matter which version, every time I try to install Software raid on an Ubuntu server system, it blows up with this error. Seems I've had trouble for several versions.

I've done it on Centos Fine, and followed the many different instructions I've seen for Ubuntu. The only luck I've had was with bios raid, but I would much rather let Mdadm handle things.

I install both as letting Ubuntu decide partitions for one drive, do the same for the other, and create a raid, and do them from scratch. No dice, same problem. I've tried that one as logical and as primary too. No difference. Something just doesn't like booting from a raid 1 Mirror. I've tried installing grub on both HDDs (sda1 + sdb1)I've tried several CDs, burned from several machines. Re-downloaded from Torrent and from the website. The DVD drives work since I purchased new DVD drives for both one workstation and the server. Things install fine under CentOS, software raid comes up.
I was installing last night some applications , then i forgot to plugin my laptop so suddenly it turned off , anyways today i turned it on , while booting it gave me this error : "error where found when mounting the disk file /"so i press I to ignore , and it works , but now how can i fix this error?
Accidentally the usb plug on my WD "My Book" got halfway unplugged and I didn't notice it. when I rebooted it, it wouldn't read the drive. I tried using G Parted to repair it but no success, it just runs forever accessing the drive and never finishes. (I left it running an entire weekend and it didn't finish) the drive is formated ext3.
When I try to mount the drive in Ubuntu 9.10 it gives this error message:
Strangely if I boot into Windows and use the ext driver I can access the drive just fine. is this something I can fix? if needed I can use Windows to do any repairs.
So i insert the ubuntu 10.10 in the dvd and boot it. The menu comes up and i choose to install ubuntu. After that it shows some black screens and this error:

I can not use nfs from F10 client to F12 server. nfs mount on F10 to F12 times out anf nfs4 mount gives "mount.nfs4: mounting localhost:/home failed, reason given by server: No such file or directory" I have tried to close firewall and set selinux to permissive mode on both client and server with same result. Samba works fine. On server [root@flokipal ~]# mount -t nfs4 localhost:/home /media/tonlist mount.nfs4: mounting localhost:/home failed, reason given by server: No such file or directory

I run a mediaserver on Archlinux, working perfectly (or almost). I have set up NFS v3 and that worked for me on these clients:

I suspect the disk manager pysdm that i had just installed today and it had crash during the previous session. The /etc/fstab file does not exist anymore and i cant rename the fstab.bak because the disk is read-only even for my root user
Recently I was downloading some upgrades in Ubuntu and unfortunately the power to the system got off.
Thereafter on booting it comes to the Grub menu and I'm able to select the OS from the list but if I choose Ubuntu it comes up with a message "General error mounting file system" and the terminal is activated. However, if XP is selected it boots with no issues.
/dev/sda6 is ubuntu installation /dev/sda7 is swap partition
I went through lot of threads over the net and tried fsck, e2fsck and other variations of that command but at the end all I get the message as
it says sda6 is clean but for sda7 it says :
Superblock invalid trying backup blocks.... Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sda7 at the end it suggests "u might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock: e2fsck -b 8193 <device>"

I have recently experienced a problem that occurred after an automatic update. After the update it said restart system. So I did and proceeded as normal. when after the reboot Firefox suddenly stopped working, crashed and upon clicking it again only a blank box appeared. Then my other apps followed and i soon couldn't do anything so i shut down my computer. Upon restart I got a black screen with tons of text and something around the lines of

So I rebooted and pressed shift to open that grub thing and booted from an earlier kernel. This time it said checking HD for errors and after booted normally. Everything seemed fine but next day it did it again. Starting with Firefox crashing and then everything else. I again booted from a previous kernel and it worked but upon checking with uname -a it did not list the kernel i chose to boot from. So I decided to upgrade 10.04 to 10.10. This upgraded my kernel and deleted the old ones so i am hoping i am good now.
I am having permissions errors every time I try to mount a windows host. I have a linux server and all the windows computers can see that computer and its files, but we wanted to start backing up the linux machine to one of our other computers. so I tried to mount one of the computers. here is the sequence of events:

I then decided to try mounting one of our other computers. this one looked like it worked fine. no error messages at all. (I left password blank) so I look in my filesystem and the mounted drive is not in the /mnt/Anita-comp file. What gives?
