View 5 Repliesok, so i was installing kget and i accedently turned off my computer while it was installing, kget is for KDE and since ubuntu uses gnome, it has to install the packages to make it work, one of which is kdebase-runtime-dataI cannot uninstall it through synaptic or terminal, i didnt uninstall kget, and thats the only KDE based app i have i thinkI cannot install any apps because it is tring to remove kdebase-runtime-data even if i dont select it, its like always selected for removal and i cant uncheck itI am running ubuntu 9.10 with the 2.6.31-22-generic kernelHere is the output from terminal
aouate3@aouate3-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get remove kdebase-runtime-data
[sudo] password for aouate3:

I'm fairly a newbe. Synaptic tells me I have a broken package: kdebase runtime It tells when repairing:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/kdebase-runtime_4%3a4.2.2-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb: poging tot overschrijven van `/usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu', wat ook in pakket kdesudo zit in english Try to overwrite what also in the package kdesudo I can not repair it. Now I can not update anything.
I am trying to install the Matlab 7.5 compiled runtime for 64-bit Linux (MCRInstaller.75.glnxa64.bin) and keep getting a "No Java Runtime Environment(JRE) was found on this system." error message.
I understand the JRE is bundled with MCRInstaller and will self-compile/install. However, I don't have admin access, could this be the source of the problem? If so, how could I fix it (not sure how to direct it to install locally without going into the source code)?
I got around this error before, but stupid me didn't write down what I did and I forgot.
I'd like to customise the kde theme, for one app uses kde. I found that Kcontrol would allow doing this, however those recommendations seem outdated as they don't specify how to install it.Package kcontrol is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source.Which one of kdebase-workspace-bin kdebase-runtime kdelibs4c2a should I install?
View 1 Replies View Relatedafter hours of searching and trying, I could not determine which kde package contains the kde system-settings gui. I'm under Xfce and would like to make some changes for my remaining KDE apps.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Fedora 14 and being satisfied with the behaviour and the packages installed for it, i want to replicate the same installation in a few more PCs, so i installed Revisor to make with it an iso file that reflects my actual installation.
The problem is that if i run the software from Applications->System tools->Revisor, nothing happens after giving the user password.
Then i run it from a consele and this error is produced after giving my password: "Cannot find anaconda-runtime in /usr/lib/anaconda-runtime"
But anaconda is the environment used for installation, so it is installed from the very begining. Why this happens?
Im running KDE 4.6.3 build from source. Everything works, but when going to system-settings, trying to change some stuff at Login Manager, for example AutoLogin to enabled, I get the following error:
Code:
polkitd(authority=local): Operator of unix-session:/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session1 FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization for action org.kde.kcontrol.kcmkdm.save for unix-process:21517:43051441 [/usr/bin/systemsettings -caption System Settings --icon preferences-system] (owned by unix-user:robert)
I get the prompt to authenticate with a user, and of course I get user root and user robert, but when I select user root, it automatically closes with error: Unable to authenticate/execute the action: (code 4) and then of course I get the above error in /var/log/messages. I know this issue is somehow related to polit setup and/or KDE, but can't figure out what. Please if someone has some ideas, let me know
NOTE: The system is slackware-current, 32bits.
I am trying to install the beta of kdepim for testing. I am using the repo here
Index of /repositories/KDE:/Unstable:/SC:/kdepim45/KDE_Distro_Factory_openSUSE_11.3
I used the one click install for kdepim4 4.4.93 and it pulled in the kde distro factory 4.5.1 repo as well automatically, but when I try to install any of the beta stuff, it complains of requiring kdebase4-runtime >= 4.5.2 which doesn't exist anywhere. So do I have to test the entire kde unstable or can I just test kdepim (what i really want to do) as the post on news.kde.org indicated.
Following some advice here elsewhere about changing a login screen which actually declared that extra KDE stuff did not get installed when installing KDM I found exactly the opposite to be the case when I tried! installed KDM via the yast installer which seemed to be a small 4MB install. However lots and lots of other KDE stuff DID get installed alongside it. 187 MB in fact! 187 MB that's 183 MB I never asked to be installed!
The bad thing is that removing KDM and the KDEBase package does not remove all these components which are now firmly embedded in the system including Oxygen Firefox theme and all sorts of other KDE branding. Could anyone advise how short of reinstalling 11.3 from scratch I can get rid of all this guff the KDM install has introduced into the system by apparently exploiting some bug or other in the installer.... Uninstalling KDM and KDEBase has only uninstalled the 4MB I thought I had chosen. The other 183 MB it glued to my system seems to be invisible to the Yast installer although there are many lines in the history file /var/log/zypp
I'm looking for a way to install kdebase 4.7 with no additional dependencies. My target is home desktop and I only want these : kdm, plasma, ark, dolphin, kdesu, konsole, okteta, kwrite, kate, kmix, ksnapshot. There are things I don't use but they get installed anyway and break kdm if removed. These things are : akonadi, strigi, nepomuk, virtuoso, kfind, kgreeter and a couple of others, including libqtzeitgeist0 and PIM in general. Also I don't want kdm 4.7 features hence I use kdm3 as a login manager. Is there a 4.7 build that doesn't mind the removal of so called base components? If not, is there a 4.4 repo for 11.4?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having touble with a java web application. It's online learning through SEEK's skillport website and it uses JRE runtime environment to display the content. I have java installed for Ubuntu as per java.com's website instructions, and I can launch my web application, however it only displays the left half of the screen. The other half is just not there. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, all updates applied. I've also tried installing OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.2) but the same sypmtoms occur. Skillport's support centre only supports Suse Linux so they couldn't help me. I'm wondering if Java is the problem or maybe a browser issue? I've tried in Firefox as well as Google Chrome for linux - same result. Currently I'm having to boot into Windows so I can do my study. Everything else works fine in Ubuntu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using wine to run a mapping application called Tracklogs. It provides Ordnance Survey 1:25000 mapping that can be printed as well as upload routes to my GPS.
It has worked perfectly since Fedora 8, I last updated wine appDb in January 2010 reporting that it was working with Fedora 12 and wine version 1.1.32.
Since wine has been updated, I now get an error dialog "Microsoft Visual C++, This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications's support team for more information".
As far as I am aware tracklogs does not use Visual C++ Runtime, so I am not sure why it is even installed. It is a clean install of wine and this is the only application I have.
It has worked consistently for over 2 years and 4 versions of Fedora and no doubt multiple updates of wine, but at some point recently something has changed with wine that causes this error. Have they included Visual C++ Runtime by default? Is there anyway to get rid of it?
i am in the process of learning bash programming,i have a any problem, about call my own C language functions directly or runtime from bash shell?

I'm having issues with the Linux rpath functionality. It seems the rpath provides the ability for a library to embed the location of other dependent libries within the shared object file.
I'm trying to disable this functionality. At my company we install libraries on NFS mounts, so they can be available on any machine. The problem I have is that my application runs on a few hundred machines. When my application is running, the NFS server can be overloaded with thousands of processes picking up library files. To get around this, I have installed the libraries locally, but I'm still picking up the shared object from NFS.
From my research, it seem the protocol for Linux is to first check the LD_LIBRARY_PATH, then check the rpath if it cannot find the library. However, on my system, it seems to do the opposite, and is only going to LD_LIBRARY_PATH if rpath fails.
Is there anyway to disable the rpath completely, and only use LD_LIBRARY_PATH? Keep in mind, I'm looking for a runtime solution. It's not feasible for me to re-link all the libraries with disable rpath flag.

Why apt-get can while aptitude can't?
I've searched on web, and all I can tell is that aptitude is "safer" than apt-get because it taking account the packages on hold.
But I don't have any package on hold! (I've tested dpkg --get-selections | grep hold)
When I moved from Fedora 13 from Fedora 11, I thought the annoying application crashes that I had been having were gone for good. Random crashes - firefox, Thunderbird, Abrt, metacity and what have you with SIGSEGV errors. I'm beginning to believe that these are not down to Fedora or even the RAM (Have run Memtest, several times). I'm not sure if what I am seeing are signs of IRQ conflicts of some sort. Can someone, please have a look and give me some guidance on what to do? Should I reinstall with acpi=off ? noapic? Also, don't have a clue why the system complains of ECC being disabled? The RAM is non-ECC. I have posted some sections of the logs here with links to the full logs instead of making this a massive post.
Code:

EDAC amd64: ECC disabled in the BIOS or no ECC capability, module will not load.
Either enable ECC checking or force module loading by setting 'ecc_enable_override'.

Full dmesg log on a fresh install. No issues experienced with system installation.
I recently locked Thunderbird 3.1.8 and Firefox 4.0 using zypper addlock, but now every time I go into Online Update I get "There are some conflicts on the transaction that must be solved manually." with these "options" which I have to tell it "Do not install..." (2x) seen at SUSE Paste. Is Online update trying to update my locked apps or a DEP of the locked app or something else? I can't touch those 2 apps, but how can I "fix" this behavior?

repositories enabled. Since some days, if I go to YaST2 †’ Package †’ "Update packages if a new version is available" (I'm translating from Spanish) I get a warning that plasma-addons-4.6.5-9.3.x86_64 needs akonadi-runtime < 1.5.40, but that that requirement cannot be match because there are eliminated providers: akonadi-runtime-1.5.3-91.1.x86_64
and non instalable providers: akonadi-runtime-1.5.0-3.3.1.x86_64[openSUSE-11.4-11.4-0]
As "solution" it offers me to not install akonadi-runtime-1.6.0.93.1.x86_64 and libakonadiprotocolinternals1-1.6.0.93.1.x86_64 (which I selected) or to uninstall plasma-addons and kadressbook, which I do not think it is a good idea...
I keep getting u1conflicts in my Moneydance backup. For example, I am usually doing something in Moneydance daily. However, when I went to open it up yesterday, it didn't save anything from the previous 3 days. The last 3 days worth were u1.conflict. Moreover, this is the only computer that we do the Moneydance transactions on. My other question is about the speed it is taking to upload all my pictures. Granted, I do have A lot of pictures (3000+), but it is taking forever to upload them. When U1 is running, it takes all of the bandwidth. My husband already posted something about limiting the bandwidth problems. What I am wondering though is if there is a way to get all my pictures backed up faster? I have been trying to back them up for about a week now. In 6 hours, it only backed up 115 files of over 3000, and that is using up all of our bandwidth.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Lucid. I installed gourmet, a gnome recipe program using Ubuntu Software Center. Everything appeared to go smoothly. Then I tried to use miro and discovered it was gone. So I reinstalled, then discovered gourmet was gone. OK, there's the problem, so I went to Synaptic to confirm. Tried to reinstall gourmet and was told it would remove miro. So, any fix for this? I'd like to use both programs.
