View 5 Replies View RelatedFor my desktop use, I wanted to keep my office suite and web browser updated while continuing to run Debian stable as my base. Here is how to install the latest Firefox and Libreoffice packages on Squeeze. Download Firefox 4 here. Then as root:
Code:
mv firefox*.tar.bz2 /opt
cd /opt
tar -xvjf firefox*.tar.bz2
ln -s /opt/firefox /usr/local/firefox4
ln -s /usr/local/firefox4/firefox /usr/local/bin/firefox4
rm firefox*.tar.bz2
[Code].....
It will install Libreoffice in /opt and the packages will show up in Synaptic Package Manager under "Local". The installation automatically creates menu entries in Gnome for Libreoffice applications. I've had no problems thus far using the latest Libreoffice 3.2.2 and Firefox 4. Hope this is helpful for anyone else wanting to install.

The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). Is there any way to update firefox to the latest stable version, like 3.6.x through the repos on OpenSUSE 11.2?
And will it cause any problems if it can be done?
The latest Firefox update seemed to override my Slickness Black theme settings for the location bar drop down (where you drop down the bar to see past sites visited. The link under the site name used to be a nice grey and now it's standard weblink blue. Not critical of course but I do personally find this annoying. I tried changing the weblink colors in Firefox but that didn't help. Anyhow have any idea how to get my original color back? It's unreadable in that awful blue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 11.04. I'm searching for an automated way of installing the latest version of Flash for Firefox. We are using our machine as a testing server and it would be nice to be assured we always have the latest version of Flash instead of having to manually update it whenever Adobe comes out with an incremental update.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm on the Slackware Security mailing list and I check the Slackware Security Advisory page daily because the mailing list, for me at least, is unreliable. After Firefox nagged me about a security update, I went to one of the FTP mirrors to check for an update and the Firefox update was there, but it still hasn't shown up on the official Slackware Security update page.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using flashplayer-nonfree in Debian, and have run "update-flashplugin-nonfree --install". Going to the version checker (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) says "You have version 10,2,159,1 installed". However, when I go to the Firefox plugin checker (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/) it says Shockwave Flash is using an outdated version that needs to be updated. When I follow the update link, the version it wants me to download is "Adobe Flash Player version 10.2.159.1".

If I go to the website and download the ISO file is it the exact same one that was released in April or will it contain the latest patches (e.g. security fixes, etc) that have been release since then? If it doesn't I suppose I'll have to download the entire ISO file, install the OS, and then have another couple hundred MB to download which is not what I'd prefer.
