Ubuntu Multimedia :: Scroll Through Hundreds Of Photos & Move Good Ones To A Separate Folder?

Nov 19, 2010

I'm relatively new to Ubuntu and am just trying to get basic functionality without having to punt back to Windows applications on Wine (such as Irfanview). All I want to do is step through photos (by pressing a key, such as the space bar) to view & then press a keyclick to move the good ones to a separate folder.

This is so fundamental that I must assume there must be software in Ubuntu which can accomplish those two simple tasks (step through a folder and move a file to another folder). Yet, I have The Gimp, GNU Paint, Krita, KSnapshot, XFig, XPaint, etc., and none of them appear to have this basic functionality (which Irfanview has, but on Windows).

What program can view and easily MOVE the photo to a stated directory in a single keystroke? Note: All the programs can "open a file" and "save as" but this is NOT the desired fundamental operation. The fundamental operation is:

- Press a key (spacebar would be nice) to scroll to the next photo in a folder.

- Press another key combination ("control + m" would be nice) to move the photo to a stated folder

- The "index" should NOT be reset (that is, the next spacebar should show the next photograph in the folder, not jump back, perhaps hundreds of photos, to the first photo as The Gimp does, for example, after a save).

- It's ok to set the move-to folder the first time, but it should not ask each and every time which folder as it should be the default for the move command after the first move.

Note: I also tried making the icons in the Nautilus browser huge and then control-click selecting the good ones, but that makes ALL icons at all times huge, and the scroll in Nautilus is atrocious, so, in effect, that was a failure. I need a graphic program that performs this simple task. This is so fundamental of a need (to scroll through and move just the good photos to a stated folder) that I find it hard to believe I can't (yet) find a graphics display program capable of scrolling and moving photos.

Ubuntu :: Make A United Media Viewer And Sex UI For Picture And Photos?

Nov 4, 2010

Also, I must say I really like the feature of QuickTime in MACOS. I think Ubuntu team can improve the current GNOME desktop and provide some like that. 1. make the movie player amd image viewer dockable..window decoration, hide controls...when mouse move over the image, show transparent controls UI.
Currently the Totem, Shotwell(for me, I like F-Spot more than shtwell) and Cheese UI are very different change them, like nautilus elementary.

2. make specified UI of the Music,Picture,Movies in nautilus...such as use clutter view as default view, add extra column,eg. album, artist, starrating.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Streaming Video Is No Good

Nov 1, 2010

I am elevating this thread up a level from [url] . Ubuntu 9.10 no longer streams without the screen pausing and going black every 2 minutes! Our product was just going into production and now we need to hopefully find a version of Ubuntu that streams video! We couldn't go with Unbuntu 10.04 because the video streaming was 30% slower than 9.10.

Hardware :: Good Video Card In Remote Server?

I just got a Proliant server and I loaded it with 4 cpu and 12Gb of ram. I use it only remotely and I am interested on using graphic software like FEM pre-post-processing and video generation. I am not sure if it will make sense to buy a video card more powerful as there will never be a monitor plugged into that card. Who does the video processing when I do rendering remotely through ssh -X or vnc? Is the server or the client responsible for that process?

Ubuntu :: Unable To Display The Slides Right, Let Alone The Videos?

Apr 29, 2011

I have installed the Microsoft Power Point Viewer 2010, but it will not read any files. gives a generic 'there was an error accessing file.pptx'

If i am albe to get it to work i will be able to use linux for the 30 laptops we use for our presentations, which is good because windows is giving us some performance problems.

the powerpoint file in question was created in 2010 and has embedded videos in it. Openoffice and LibreOffice do not seem to be able to display the slides right, let alone the videos.

I want to hopefully get the viewer working, or i will have to just remake the powerpoint in odf

OpenSUSE :: Skype Alternative - Client With Good Video And Voice Quality

Jun 16, 2010

I am looking for a good alternative to Skype. I would like to have video and voice calls with a family member who uses MS XP but would like to avoid Skype if possible. Does anyone know of a good client with good video and voice quality that will work on both platforms. I'd like it to use open standards so at least we can use different OS specific clients if one is not available for both platforms. Googling hasn't yielded much and some of the results refer to really old (~2006) articles or apps. I hope I'm not doomed to using Skype. I've resisted so long with using SIP clients for voice but am stumped now that I want to include video.

Is there a way to enable scrolling to move onto the next slide? i.e. scrolling down or up w/ mouse button only moves the canvas up/down rather than proceed to the next slide (which requires a Page Up/Dn). Additionally, is there a view similar to ppt that the left side of the screen has thumbnails which u can scroll up and down w/ ur mouse wheel or the up/dn arrow?

Fedora :: Make Video Settings Persistent

Sep 4, 2009

I just did a fresh install of Fedora 11 and the only video resolutions available were 640x480 and 800x600.

The native resolution of the monitor is 1280x1024 and that's what I'd like to use.

I was able to get the display to the proper resolution with the following commands:

Code:

However, rebooting sets it back to 800x600. I have seen the edits to xorg.conf but that file wasn't created.

Is there a way to make the 1280x1028 resolution persistent without creating a xorg.conf file?
