I'm using pclinuxos and trying to install empathy. The version in repository blinks (opens, right after, closes). The newest version is compiling from source, many dependencies, can't be installed automatically. The previous version:
- rpm -ivh rpmfilename is many dependencies too that can't be installed automatically too
I tried gui:
- installing apturl, clicking the rpm file link, opening it with apturl, installation gui alerts error message
- opening the rpm file with Synaptic doesn't work
- opening the rpm file with /usr/bin/apt-get doesn't work
If I add the previous rpm repository to Synaptic, what will it do to the current? If I apt-cache add previousname.rpm, what will Synaptic and apt do to the current and what will the apt-get install previousname (.rpm? no .rpm?) be?
how to update my system online (for example my firefox 3.0 to 3.5) but i can't figure out how this possibly works. I tried the "online update" using Yast2 but apparently (according to Yast) there is nothing at all to be patched on my system. I tried to click on the Firefox-3.5.5 rpm in the repository web-interface and open it using "install software" but the process aborts because of unresolved dependencies. Is there an easy way to update software without having to download/install every dependency manually?
The download page (http://gtk-apps.org/content/show.php...?content=90610) says that PDF-Shuffler depends on GTK 2.x Searching for 'GTK' in sbopkg gives me a big list. Does anyone know exactly which package I need to install
I want to install the subversion. I want to install the depandancy files like gcc, gcc-++ etc. But when I try to use Yum, I get errors. When I tried yum install I got the following erro xulrunner-1.9.2.17-3.el5.x86_64 from updates has depsolving problems
--> xulrunner conflicts with firefox dbus-libs-1.1.2-14.el5.i386 from installed has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: dbus = 1.1.2-14.el5 is needed by package dbus-libs-1.1.2-14.el5.i386 (installed)
I got a new hard drive in and decided to do a completely new install of 11.4 64 on my "testing/spare machine:. I have my dual monitors configured properly But I ran into two issues. When doing a manual post install update from the 11.4 updates repo I have one file that will not play happily named cronie. When trying to install the application wspr from the hamradio repo I get the following error for an unsatisfied dependency. I have the same application installed on another 11.4 installation on this system and it didn't choke on this file.
I try to update my openSUSE system from 11.2 to 11.3. But I stumble on the following message.
Code: Sonne:~ # zypper up zypper ... Problem: libsnmp15-5.4.2.1-11.2.1.x86_64 requires librpm.so.0()(64bit), but this requirement cannot be provided ...
I wonder why the library is not found at the moment. (The command "rpm --query --provides rpm" shows that it is available here of course.)
Would you like to share any advices to resolve this dependency?
New to SuSE, but not Linux. Trying to install the source for 2.6.37.1-1.2, but YAST only has a different kernel version. Try downloading Kernel 2.6.37.1-1.2.2 rpm, but am getting into dependency hell.
So I switched to linux entirely and I was searching for a ODIN tool for android devices and found "Heimdall" [URL]
its a superior alternative but currently the deb package doesnt have its dependencies satisfied.
Question: How do you install a deb package without dependencies Is it worth force installing it without dependencies and just wait till the developer creates them?
i installed centos 5 in my pc. and i installed vlc 0.9.9.rpm. while installing it is asking some dependency files. then i install rpmforge.rpm. rpmforge clears all dependency files so then i am able to install vlc on my pc very successfully. now i have a another pc with centos 5. i dont have network connection on second pc.
so i want to copy these dependency files (installed by rpmforge while installing vlc) from first computer to sencond computer(without internet) by pen drive. and want to install these dependency files manually.because rpmforge is install dependency files form internet. is it possible to install dependency file manually.
There may be a way not to download all dependency and install one by one.But how?Sorry for such a basic question but i could find only solutions for ubuntu.
I'm trying to install KDE, but I can't. I've tried using tasksel, but it gave me an error, so I tried to install task-kde-desktop myself. When I did that, I ran into some dependency issues:
Code: Select allSome packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
task-kde-desktop : Depends: kde-standard but it is not going to be installed Depends: kdm but it is not going to be installed Recommends: kdeaccessibility but it is not going to be installed Recommends: k3b but it is not going to be installed
I spent days, testing, touching, compiling, etc. and no way to get it work for me.I post some outputs in the hope someone can point me right

I installed the W3C-Validator from the Software Centre after installing the missing dependency from oneric. But now I get a 403 when visiting [URL]. Think this is most likely a file permissions issue but am not sure which file/directory to chown?
I'm having problems installing things like "Teamspeak" and Netsupport on my 64 bit fedora 14. Now netsupport will run in the terminal window, but won't install.
However the thing that hurts the worst right now, is "Open Office" I open a terminal window, type "su" put in the password and run the installer from a prompt cd'd to the setup file. I get back dependency errors that I don't understand. So I ran the updates and tried again. No luck. I have screenshots of the error messages in case someone could help me decode, they download to full size if they aren't read-able enough.
I've been trying to get Xmonad installed and keep running into dependency installation issues. So far, I've used slackbuilds to get everything I need for Xmonad. (I'm pretty new to linux still, but as far as I know, having 64bit slack shouldn't be an issue in running 32bit applications?)
I have- ghc-6.12.1 haskell-mtl
The main issue I've had thus far is with the Haskell-X11 (1.5.0.0) dependency, I downloaded the slackbuild:
I'm excited to try the new 2.0.1 version of Guile. I'm running Slackware64 13.37 and the latest version of Guile distributed with it is 1.8.8. I see that this new version, as part of it's new capabilities, has a few new requirements. I have built and installed libffi, libunistring and libgc according to their install instructions, but Guile's configure script can't find them.
I have tried manually creating libffi.pc libunistring.pc and libgc.pc files, which has allowed configure to get past the first two, but I still can't determine the correct name for libgc. Further, I am now not confident that Guile will find these where it expects to find them in the end. I would like to ask for some clarification of the install process for this new version of Guile, but I'm not sure whom to ask.
i wanted to install screenlets under fedora 11 but python wont let me, is there a way to do it i keep getting the Python(abi) dependency missing message I've tryed both 32 and the 64 bits version, even the noarch i found here with no results at all
I get following error during automatic patch upgrade of my SuSE 11.2 to latest path revision. I assume it is due to the KDE 4.3.5 Update part of the patch set: compiz-kde4-0.7.8-9.14.x86_64 requires libkdecorations.so.4()(64 bit) but there are no providers. The package manager suggest to replace compiz-kde4-0.7.8-9.14.x86_64 with kwin-4.3.5-0.2.1.x86_64 but I don't want to loose compiz-kde. which repository I must add to resolve the dependency.
I cant install vlc player or other media players in my fedora 11 .Every time it shows the dependency errors. Any media player get from the fedora yum server.
I want to install php-soap on centos 5.2 server. When i run the command, yum install php-soap, i get the error:
php-soap-5.1.6-24.el5_4.5.i386 from updates has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: php-common = 5.1.6-24.el5_4.5 is needed by package php-soap-5.1.6-24.el5_4.5.i386 (updates) Error: Missing Dependency: php-common = 5.1.6-24.el5_4.5 is needed by package php-soap-5.1.6-24.el5_4.5.i386 (updates) You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest The php common file is not actually missing, its there with the exact name. The problem seems to be that the php-common file is installed from some other repository, thats y it is creating dependency problem. The only solution i found is to remove the current php-common file and install it again, but then lot of programs get uninstalled with it, which is y am afraid of doing that, since its a vps, and some 10 sites are working on that.
