Software :: Thunderbird Failing To Start In Ldap User Account / Fix It?
Mar 28, 2011
I recently configured my client to log on using my (open)ldap account. Since then I could not get thunderbird started from my ldap account. But if I su to one of the local accounts, it opens.
I setup openldap and samba on 9.10. The ubuntu desktop client gets authenticated successfully with the server. But when I do a passwd on the client, only the ldap passwd is getting changed but not in the samba and the unix user account.
My smb.conf
Code:
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://192.168.3.100 ldap suffix = dc=example,dc=local ldap user suffix = ou=People ldap group suffix = ou=Groups
[code].....
But only the ldap password is getting changed and not in the samba and unix user account.
Recently I deleted files from my root/share folder in an attempt to remove a program which had made the system virtually unusable. Upon reboot of the system I accessed the partition I had just edited and I found that I was unable to login using the login manager, every time I hit login it just returns me to the same screen displaying the message: unable to start session.
I installed CentOS 5.2 and then run yum update. I configured this server as LDAP/Samba primary domain controller. LDAP seems to be OK and for testing I am able to create users with:smbldap-tools useradd -am usernameI can ssh into the server as root and also as a Linux user which was locally created in the server. But ssh into the server as LDAP user fails (from a Fedora 11 machine) with "Permission denied, please try again", prompting again for password. Some data:
I am using RackMonkey to map out my lab. Unfortunately, due to RM limitations, every user who accesses the site has write access UNLESS they are logged in as a user named "guest". I currently have Apache allowing only the users (sysadmins) in an LDAP group access to RM, but I would like to allow read-only access for other users as well.I found mod_authn_anon, but I am having trouble combining the two authentication methods. I am using Apache 2.2.18 (compiled myself) on SLES 11.1.
This is the common part:
Code:
AuthType Basic AuthBasicProvider ldap anon Order allow, deny Allow from all
This part by itself works for the LDAP authentication:
Anonymous guest Anonymous_VerifyEmail Off Anonymous_MustGiveEmail Off Anonymous_LogEmail on Require valid-user
But if I have both of the previous blocks enabled at once, then guest access does not work. If I throw in a "Satisfy any", then I am not prompted for a username at all. How can I allow access to this LDAP group and to a user named "guest", but not allow all valid LDAP users to log in?
I've setup an Ubuntu 10.10 LDAP Client to authenticate off my LDAP server. I've install the following: sudo apt-get install libpam-ldap libnss-ldap nss-updatedb libnss-db nscd ldap-utils pam_ccreds Here's my /etc/nsswitch.conf: passwd: files ldap [NOTFOUND=return] db group: files ldap [NOTFOUND=return] db
I am using thunderbird and evolution on my computer at work using IMAP and have been trying to configure both of the clients to access the global address book from the companies exchange 5.5 mail server.
I read this but cannot get any results when I search for a name.

How can I obtain the information that I need from the Exchange 5.5 server to setup my GAL on thunderbird or evolution.
I have a problem with the Google search box top right corner in Konqueror, when entering search I recieve an error page "Unsupported Protocol" Google asks for ioslave or kioslave. Also when highlighting text on a page and right clicking with the mouse no search option is given. I created a new user and all works as it should for the new user. What is wrong with my user account? I have reset default values in Konqueror setup.
I am using openSuse 11.0 and have installed Thunderbird 3 (MozillaThunderbird-3.0.0-15.1) from the mozilla/openSUSE_11.0 repository of the build service. Thunderbird does not start, upon invoking it I get an instant crash with /usr/bin/thunderbird: line 130: 12025 Speicherzugriffsfehler $MOZ_PROGRAM "$@" (Speicherzugriffsfehler is the german equivalent of "segmentation fault"). I do believe, that this problem is somehow caused by some failed LDAP access.
I am using an LDAP-based user account which causes the behaviour described. For testing purposes I created a local user account, which could start thunderbird 3 without a problem. Starting and stopping nscd did not work, neither did the removal of .thunderbird and .mozilla. Here are the final lines of an strace dump:
I am using OpenSUSE 11.2 and have installed Thnderbird 3.1.8.
Now the problems are :
1.
In my office , where Ubuntu is being used, I've also installed Thunderbird, and my Yahoo ! account works smoothly there, but not in my OpenSUSE 11.2 machine.
2.
How can I take the backup of my any particular account of Thunderbird?
I just upgraded from TB 3.0 to 3.1 and now I can't access my email account. (It has a lock on the account icon and there are no subfolders available -- see attached.) What could be wrong?
I set up a mail account in Tbird 3.1.8 - only to find it was incorrect (IMAP rather than POP).
I have set up the new account correctly, but there does not seem to be any way to delete the old account. I have renamed it to avoid confudion; but I really need to delete it.
how to login with ubuntu ldap server account from ubuntu client(karmic). Ubuntu server and client setup is done properly but not knowing how to login to ldap server graphically from ubuntu client. I don't want to login via SSH
Is there a possibility in openldap to allow a user to only create/manage specific LDAP users? For example user "mailadmin" may only create/manage mail accounts in LDAP that are named like "m1342895"? Or a specific list of user accounts that are in a specific group?
How to get the Thunderbird E-Mail Icon to the far right side of the tool bar where the default evolution mail icon is? I can remove the evolution icon and install the Thunderbird icon to the task bar but I cant get it in the exact spot as the default account.
I've finally got all my accounts the way I like them in Thunderbird. I'm using IMAP and so don't have to move the emails, but how do I migrate my account settings to my other computers? The other machines are running WinXP.
(Ubuntu LTS 10.4) I have multiple mail accounts on Thunderbird (TB). All worked fine with no issues whatsoever. A few months ago it suddenly started giving me this alert message related to my yahoo.fr pop3 account
Quote:
The POP3 mail server (pop.mail.yahoo.fr) does not support UIDL or XTND XLST, which are required to implement the ``Leave on Server'', ``Maximum Message Size'' or ``Fetch Headers Only'' options. To download your mail, turn off these options in the Server Settings for your mail server in the Account Settings window.
Obviously I checked if these settings were somehow changed. They weren't. It should leave messages on the server indeed, but I don't use no max message size or fetch headers only options. The original settings are what they used to be and how they have always worked.
The thing is: everything works normal if I start up TB. It downloads the messages, puts them in the folders where I want them to come etc... The problem seems to appear after a while (mostly a few hours, or overnight). It just stops downloading the messages from my yahoo.fr account. When I click the Get Mail for my yahoo account the above alert message pops up.
There is only one solution really. Close TB and restart it after which all works fine again.
It might be that the problem is related to another issue reported as bug # 689453 in launchpad that started around the same time (a few months ago). That bug forces me to have to end the process through the System Monitor where Thunderbird-bin uses almost 100% of the CPU and doesn't shut down.
Obviously it doesn't avoid me from using TB, but it starts to work on my nerves to have to close down TB (sometimes through the End Process in system monitor) and then restart it so frequently.
Apache is run as www as is all the files/folders. People are uploading via FTP, scp, so the problem is if I chmod so everyone can read, then rsync as a user it works until new files are added which then my ; if rsync fails with a permission denied. Now I can add a chmod in the script so everyone can read, but since www can already read, I figured I would just change my script to use www. I added the ssh key to his authorized_keys file, but when I try to just ssh in I see this in the secure file;
server sshd[29539]: User www not allowed because account is locked sshd[29539]: Failed none for invalid user www from ip port 54983 ssh2
Now I read a few places already saying I need to add a password to the account, etc. but before I jump and try all I read, 1st major one, will this now break apache? Will this affect any startup things, etc. and .... will that unlock that user for ssh in or is there another preferred method?
I have installed 11.4, and it seems (seemed) to work OK so far. I installed Thunderbird via the opensuse "1 click install". the installation ran smoothly, but now a click on the Thunderbird icon does not activate any mail client; the only success is that Thunderbird icon jumps joyfully and then disappears.
As the title says I have an IMAP-account and I want to use it via Evolution. I have the exact same settings on both Evolution and Thunderbird but only Thunderbird sees the mails (new/old), there are 139 messages.Evolution seen none. Nothing. I looked for IMAP-related problems concerning Evolution and one thread suggested something about Inbox-folder and it's location. I don't know if it's the solution, but I didn't find any luck trying different combos in Evolution's options.
I have a user account which is required to run as part of the operating system and as a service. I am currently attempting to install my companies software on an Ubuntu desktop via wine just for the purpose of finding out if it's do-able.
Is there a way, in Ubuntu, for a user account to be given the local rights assignment to act as part of the operating system and to function as a service in the background?
I had an Ubuntu 10.10 installation that ran fine for around a month or so. I decided to go out and try to install aptosid (formerly known as sidux) as a dual boot. I couldn't get the desktop to boot in the LiveCD and kept getting an error saying that the nouveau module could not be loaded. I rebooted and at the main LiveCD screen, I added xmodule=vesa xres=1440X900. I was able to get a 1024x768 resolution. I decided that I really didn't like aptosid, so I shut it down and took out the LiveCD. When I booted back into Ubuntu, my resolution changed down to 640x480 for some reason. I decided to remove the proprietary nVidia driver I had installed via jockey. Once it was removed, I restarted. Now, I see no startup splash or a login screen - my monitor just goes to sleep.
I have all my files backed up already, so I decided to pop in my Kubuntu 10.10 LiveCD to install that. Once I choose the "Start Kubuntu" option, my monitor goes to sleep. I tried putting in Linux Mint Debian Edition LiveCD to see if that would work, and I had the same issue. After this, I went for the nuclear option and installed Windows 7 to see if it would wipe out any memory of my Linux drivers from the system. The Windows drivers for my card worked fine, so I decided to put the Kubuntu LiveCD back in and got the same problem. I am currently running a Partition Magic LiveCD, but could only boot into it using the Xvesa option instead of Xorg. My video card is an nVidia 9800 GT - and it has always worked in the past.
I have recently installed CentOS onto an old machine to get it up and running as a basic web/mail server. Originally the Network Interface worked ok, however I have been editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to try and set the IP address to be static.Now when I run the 'service network restart' command it won't bring the eth0 interface up and comes up with the following errors;
ifcfg-eth0 Line 3 DEVICE: command not found missing config file ifcfg-ifcfg-eth0
It doesn't seem to like any of the command words, even though most of these were in the original file that worked and the ones I added to do static I have commented out.

Slackware ver 12.2 Mysqld Ver 5.0.67 Apache/2.2.16 mod_auth_mysql-3.0.0 patched with apache22.diff
Symptom: when trying to use mod_auth_mysql to validate access to a directory via mysql DB, get prompted for user name and password but never find user and password combination despite using good values for login to mysql (same values in apache directory statements work as a cli login to mysql) and confirmed as valid in the user_info table (see values supplied to prompt in select * from user_info). Mysql general log does not show any attempt to access, strace does not show any attempt to setup local connection to mysql port. In a working version in Fedora I setup to test do see access described in the general log and strace shows a setup to mysql port. No useful messages in slackware apache access_log, error_log, mysql error logs, system logs.Have tried many combinations of mysqld variables, apache variables, mod_auth_mysql versions and variables, to no avail. Reinstalled apache, mysqld, etc.
