Software :: Thoughts On Reorganizing MP3 Collection?

Mar 14, 2010

Last spring I graduated college. I lived in a party house, and being skilled in computers, I decided to build a media center for me and my five roomies. The thing worked great; MythTV for television, and a thin client in the kitchen to DJ the music. I had a samba share available so my room mates could just dump their music collection from their machines on to the media center. Adding new songs was their problem, and not mine. As you can imagine, nobody really wanted to organize the music to well. Many of them just dumped in the tunes and then searched for it in GMPC (a great interface for MPD by the way).

So over a year later, I have 150GB+ of music which is mostly unorganized. I need a way to put some order to the chaos... I tried using EasyTag for a while. Don't get me wrong, it's a great program. But sorting through every directory and song would take me DAYS, time I just don't have.I need a way to SAFELY rename and organize all of the music into a logical file structure. My initial thought was to just connect an external hard drive, copy it all into iTunes on some laptop, and then recopy the then organized iTunes database back onto the media center.

Programming :: Reorganizing / Sorting Spreadsheet Using Shell?

Jun 25, 2011

I have a problem to reorganize a spreedsheat using shell, I want to use "sort" to organize the first column (descending scale) and then organize the second column in an ascending scale related to the first column so that the final result should be that one displayed at the end of the message. I have tried "sort -r -n" but I don't know how to reorganize the second column related to the first column.

Debian Configuration :: Reorganizing Disks In MD RAID Array

Mar 4, 2010

I'm trying to do some RAID managing with mdadm. I would like to sync my spare disk and then remove it from the array for making a backup out of it with dd command (the best way i can think of to get the current image of the whole system as it can't be done using the active RAID as source, because is constantly in use and changing). So, I have RAID1 array with 1 spare and 2 active disks (configuration listed below). Now I would like to force spare to sync and then remove it from array, although not faulty.

However, mdadm man page states:
"Devices can only be removed from an array if they are not in active use. i.e. that must be spares or failed devices. To remove an active device, it must be marked as faulty first."

So, I'd have to mark a disk as faulty (which it is not) to be able to remove it from array. There seems to be several people reporting that they can't remove this faulty flag accidentally given to a drive. And mdadm does not give direct for such operation. Isn't there a way I could remove and add disks whenever feeling like it?? One way would be open the cover and physically remove the disk. I'm not taking the risk, though. System is almost always in use, so there is not much chance for me to power off for temporary disk removal.

RAID CONFIGURATION:
~# mdadm --detail /dev/md0
/dev/md0:
Version : 00.90.03
Creation Time : Fri Aug 4 17:38:26 2006
Raid Level : raid1
Array Size : 238950720 (227.88 GiB 244.69 GB)

Fedora :: Amarok Can't Scan My Collection

Feb 21, 2010

Ok, I stopped using Fedora after the version 9. Today for a change I installed Fedora 12. And now I am in an endless world of troubles. At first I was able to video call friends on msn. But it wasn't working. And then I found this guide and did everything it says. Now it's even worse, audio and video call buttons are greyed out?

Amarok is a critical software for me. No Amarok, no Linux. I installed the amarok's latest version through yum. But amarok can't scan my collection. It keeps giving this error "[ERROR!] Tried to query an uninitialized m_db! ".???

General :: Amarok Not Building Collection

Jul 19, 2010

I was using amarok fine with 10.04, upgraded to 10.10 alpha, still worked fine. Decided alpha had a few bugs I didn't like so I completely removed it, installed 10.04 from scratch again (I have two partitions, / and /home, only formatted /). Now I can't get amarok to build for me at all. It plays mp3's no problem but when I try to build my collection it pretends to (takes a few minutes but goes relatively fast compared to what it should take to build) then shows 0 songs. I've already tried deleting amarok inside of /home/user/.kde/share/apps/amarok

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Amarok2 - Add Track To Collection

Feb 28, 2010

It seems that some of the functions I used almost daily in Amarok 1 are not to be found (at least by me) in Amarok 2. After a thread without a solution on how to play Random tracks, here is a new one.

In Amarok 1 I used to place a track (e.g. sitting in a download directory) in the playlist (by clicking on it). A right click on it in the play list revealed a few options. Two of them:

. copy track to collection.
. move track to collection

Both are gone in Amarok 2 and I could not find a replacement.

Btw when I right click on an item in the collection list (at left) there is still the Reorganize file(s) that is very much the 'collection internal' equivalent.

As I suppose that it is possible to add to the local collection, who knows how to do it?

Ubuntu One :: Does 'entire Music Collection' Mean Only Up To 50GB?

Oct 21, 2010

I have a few questions in regards to the music streaming service offered.

1. Does "entire music collection" mean only up to 50GB?
2. I can't sync off my external USb harddrive. Is there a way to do this. my entire music collection is on the external HD.
3.If i move music to from my external HD to the ubuntu one folder am I actually copying the file to my netbook harddrive or is it only a pointer? I have limited harddrive space on the netbook.
4. If I have to actually move files from my ext harddrive to the ubuntu one folder I may need to delete folders because of limited space. Anyway to prevent syncing so the folders uploaded do not get deleted from cloud.

Anyways, crunch time. Had a look at the stuff in the public repositories, but they all involve too much typing, too much work. So, what are others using/ doing to maintain their "collection" indexes?
