In Amarok 1 in the playlist tab you could choose to make a playlist of 50 random from your collection.
I start using Amarok 2.2.90 now. Where did they hide this functionality?
3 o 4 days ago I installed KDE 4.6 from KDE 46 repository and I upgrade my OS and some applications like Amarok. I had some problems so I erased .kde folder and reboot my computer. KDE 4.6 works fine and fast (in my opinion, faster than KDE 4.5) but I have problems with Amarok 2.4. When I try to scan my music collection Amarok don't find any song. I have a NTFS partition in my computer and I have all my music there. I mount the partition since fstab and in 6 months I didn't have any problem. I can use Clementine for exmple and scan all my songs perfectly, but not Amarok.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new hdd for my pc and reinstalled opensuse 11.2 Updated to amarok 2.2.1 and now i have a problem, my menu doesn't contain playback-->repeat/random options, they simply aren't there. amarok doesn't allow to play repeat and random simultaneously.
My problem is that i want to launch amarok with random playback....could this be done with some parameter through the terminal...(e.g amarok --playback-random)?
And ifanyone could say why I don't have certain menu items in amarok I would also be grateful. I think it is not related to the packman repo because i have the suse version of amarok.
I have 2.3.1 on ubuntu lucid and every 20-30sec it scans collection (or updates it) but only to 52% and it stops. I am not changing watched folders fyi. When I start it from terminal I get these messages code...
Ok, it's TagLib's fault, but how can I know what files are causing this and how can I fix them? I suspect it may be some flac albums that I've added to my collection not long ago.
After upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (yes I'm a bit slow on the update), Amarok no longer displays or plays my itunes collection.
the Itunes collection is on a separate drive in a dual boot configuration (Win XP Pro). Drive is mounted and I can navigate to the music directory in the file browser. Also Amarok can see the directory when I try to rescan my collection.
When I rescan the collection - drilling down to the correct directory - amarok appears to be scanning the diretory. However when it is complete, the collection header (in the local music view) shows the music share with a track count, but the sub directories (album, artist, etc.) is empty.
I have removed and re-installed Amarok, and cleaned up the itunes directory - no change in the behavior.
Amarok reliably played the itunes collection in previous ubuntu distros (9.01, 9.04, 8.10, etc...).
What do I need to do to get the collection visible?
I have a vast amount of MP3's but I can't seem to get Amarok to play them, Amarok opens up and I can see all my music in the music folder with no problem but when I select an MP3 and select Play I get nothing. I can convert my CD collection to OGG.VORBIS but I don't want to go through that process all over again. Currently I'm using 11.2 64bit,

Most other mp3's play through Amarok though. Why this problem. I'm using the gstreamer backend. I tried changing it to xine but then nothing would play. I really like Amarok and want to use it as my main player, so this issue is a little irritating.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was just using Amarok 2-3 days ago and everything was working fine. Now every time I launch Amarok it shows 0 songs in my collection. Under my collection properties, it still shows I have the correct folder selected. When I try to rescan my collection, absolutely nothing happens. Also, when I quit the program, it stays in the top gnome bar. When I click on it, the exit option is gone and I have to manually kill the process.
I'm running 10.04 with the 2.6.34-5 kernel.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have most of my music on my hard drive in one big "Music" folder, and in Amarok this is seen as the collection. Everything is imported, works fine.
Until i change the ID3 tags of a file/album. Amarok refuses to load the new tags, and keeps displaying the old tags.
I have over 200 GB of music in that folder, some of it is badly tagged. When i realize that, i retag the files with Musicbrainz. And unless i scan the entire collection again, the new tags wont be loaded. Needless to say i can't listen to the respective album/file for hours, as the rescanning of that whole folder takes at least one hour.
It isn't that I don't get sound. It just won't play. If I click a file, then click play it quickly goes through an amount of songs. Too quick to give a good number. For example, if I have 100 songs on my library, I want to play one. Obviously I click play and such to make it play but instead of playing it acts as if it can not read the file (even though all my songs are in the library). Got any help/tips/whatevers?

I've tried to search through this forum a couple of times to understand this problem, but no posts to date (that I've found) quite address it. Simply put, I am unable to get amarok to play mp3 files, which represent a large portion of my music collection.Every time I start the program, a window pops up advising me that amarok cannot play mp3 files, and it asks if I wish to install that support. Every time I click yes, it announces that the system has successfully done so, except that I might have to restart the program for the change to take effectEvery time I restart the program the same sequence happens. At no time does it ever play mp3 files.
I've tried to install every mp3 codec library I can find, none of this makes any difference.There was a time when amarok handled all this with absolutely no problem and behaved like a really good music manager, but that capability evidently was blown away by some software update that I probably wouldn't have run if I'd known what would happen.Does anyone know how to solve this? View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Opensuse 11.4 and even have the multiboot working (at last) and firefox running at more than a snails pace, but this latest problem is really stumping me. I suspect it might be a little more fundamental than just amarok and mp3's but that's where I see it.
So, when I run amarok it asks if I would like to install MP3 support So I click on affermative and, since I added the neccessary repositories, it starts merrily into updating. Then after a few files it his this one:

98MB. It downloads all the way to 99% and then the transfer rate drops from the 120KB/s I expect to 8B/s for a minute or so nad then it just restarts from 0%. It will do this a few times before offering the opportunity to skip. I did skip and it did a few more files successfully then hung up in the same way. It seems like any file larger than 1MB will not download.

When I import my music folder into my amarok library I come up ~3000 songs short. When I load the same music folder into songbird 1.4 I am able to see the full library.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to which songs' ID3 tags are not being read properly by Amarok and therefore are not appearing in my collection. I have tried removing my collection and rescanning, removing and re-installing amarok.. removing all amarok related folders from my .kde folders and reinstalling... yet I am still unable to get my full collection read by Amarok..
How can I make amarok play music that is in a .wma format? Or how would I convert it to mp3?

Until I get that going, I wanted to go ahead and rip my dvd collection and have it to play on my xbox. okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.
Ok, I stopped using Fedora after the version 9. Today for a change I installed Fedora 12. And now I am in an endless world of troubles.At first I was able to video call friends on msn. Decided alpha had a few bugs I didn't like so I completely removed it, installed 10.04 from scratch again (I have two partitions, / and /home, only formatted /). Now I can't get amarok to build for me at all. It plays mp3's no problem but when I try to build my collection it pretends to (takes a few minutes but goes relatively fast compared to what it should take to build) then shows 0 songs. I've already tried deleting amarok inside of /home/user/.kde/share/apps/amarok

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell E6410 and I am not seeing my Local Collection. I went to Settings > Configure Amarok > Collection and chose the folder that has my collection in it. It scans it but when I try to view the Local Collection in the left bar, it's empty. I have Amarok on another computer in the house and it sees them fine. I can also use Rhythm Box on the 6410 and it sees and plays them fine.
