I added a large collection which are described as being from Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection. I'd like to eliminate them from my games menu, but I can't remember what the package I added was called.

Ok, I stopped using Fedora after the version 9. Today for a change I installed Fedora 12. And now I am in an endless world of troubles.At first I was able to video call friends on msn. But it wasn't working. And then I found this guide and did everything it says. Now it's even worse, audio and video call buttons are greyed out?
Amarok is a critical software for me. No Amarok, no Linux. I installed the amarok's latest version through yum. But amarok can't scan my collection. It keeps giving this error "[ERROR!] Tried to query an uninitialized m_db! ".???
I upgraded my fedora 12 to F13 last night by Fedora 13 DVD. then i updated my F13 using this code:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently learning to use rsync to backup my music collection. I have a Firefox tab open to the rsync manual page(s) and have been reading man rsync and running experimental rsync operations.I've been doing this for the last 3-4 hours. I've used rsync for this purpose in the past with disastrous results. What was and is once again (due to a month and a half of file pruning) a 9000 file music collection had mysteriously grown to over 25,000 music files and 80GB of data! This was likely due to the fact that I didn't really know what I was doing with rsync and had never spent too much time learning about all the parameters, what their functions are and how they may relate to my goal.Here are the particulars:
* Source drive is a 500GB disk, /media/sata500/music/.
* Destination drive is a 250GB USB disk, /media/FreeAgent/music, connected to the same computer that houses the 500GB disk.
* I want to copy or backup files from /media/sata500/music to /media/FreeAgent/music.
* I do not want to create ANY duplicates of files that exist.
* I only want to add files to the destination drive if they are new on the source drive, like if I rip a CD and add the contents to the source. I want them copied over next time I run rsync.
Here's the rsync command in it's most recently used form, and probably very immature at this point.

This appears to have copied all files and folders and I'm satisfied that my goal has been met with some success. To convince myself of this I ran the command and then once it was complete I added 2 new songs putting them in their respective folders on the source drive and ran the same command again. The resulting output was

Two files transferred. Exactly what I want.Both folders now house 20,931 files and use 40.6GB. Identical as far as I can tell.What I'm concerned about are time stamps and play count data, etc. Anything that changes the original file. I don't want this data to cause a file to be transferred as I'm afraid that the new file will be created along side the old file of the same name thereby starting this whole music collection expansion thing all over again. I've invested a lot of time and effort to get it pruned down to where there are virtually no duplicates and albums are correct in that they contain the proper songs in the proper order.
Can anyone explain in simple schoolboy language (age about 5, or thats how i feel), how I can rip my cds, so not breaking law, and add to playlist.No problem playing them, but how do you get to add to the collection or playlist.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLast spring I graduated college. I lived in a party house, and being skilled in computers, I decided to build a media center for me and my five roomies. The thing worked great; MythTV for television, and a thin client in the kitchen to DJ the music. I had a samba share available so my room mates could just dump their music collection from their machines on to the media center. Adding new songs was their problem, and not mine. As you can imagine, nobody really wanted to organize the music to well. Many of them just dumped in the tunes and then searched for it in GMPC (a great interface for MPD by the way).
So over a year later, I have 150GB+ of music which is mostly unorganized. I need a way to put some order to the chaos... I tried using EasyTag for a while. Don't get me wrong, it's a great program. But sorting through every directory and song would take me DAYS, time I just don't have.I need a way to SAFELY rename and organize all of the music into a logical file structure. My initial thought was to just connect an external hard drive, copy it all into iTunes on some laptop, and then recopy the then organized iTunes database back onto the media center.
I was using amarok fine with 10.04, upgraded to 10.10 alpha, still worked fine. Decided alpha had a few bugs I didn't like so I completely removed it, installed 10.04 from scratch again (I have two partitions, / and /home, only formatted /). Now I can't get amarok to build for me at all. It plays mp3's no problem but when I try to build my collection it pretends to (takes a few minutes but goes relatively fast compared to what it should take to build) then shows 0 songs. I've already tried deleting amarok inside of /home/user/.kde/share/apps/amarok

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems that some of the functions I used almost daily in Amarok 1 are not to be found (at least by me) in Amarok 2. After a thread without a solution on how to play Random tracks, here is a new one.
In Amarok 1 I used to place a track (e.g. sitting in a download directory) in the playlist (by clicking on it). A right click on it in the play list revealed a few options. Two of them:
. copy track to collection.
. move track to collection
Both are gone in Amarok 2 and I could not find a replacement.
Btw when I right click on an item in the collection list (at left) there is still the Reorganize file(s) that is very much the 'collection internal' equivalent.
As I suppose that it is possible to add to the local collection, who knows how to do it?

Ok, it's TagLib's fault, but how can I know what files are causing this and how can I fix them? I suspect it may be some flac albums that I've added to my collection not long ago.
I have a few questions in regards to the music streaming service offered.
1. Does "entire music collection" mean only up to 50GB?
2. I can't sync off my external USb harddrive. Is there a way to do this. my entire music collection is on the external HD.
3.If i move music to from my external HD to the ubuntu one folder am I actually copying the file to my netbook harddrive or is it only a pointer? I have limited harddrive space on the netbook.
4. If I have to actually move files from my ext harddrive to the ubuntu one folder I may need to delete folders because of limited space. Anyway to prevent syncing so the folders uploaded do not get deleted from cloud.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get my movies to play on my xbox in a different room. It's giving me some problems. Until I get that going, I wanted to go ahead and rip my dvd collection and have it to play on my xbox. That being said, I looked at some different ripping utilities, but I wanted to try to keep everything in mp4 format (or something similar) without needing to use the DVD menu and such. I'd like to be able to enable or disable closed captioning as well.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell E6410 and I am not seeing my Local Collection. I went to Settings > Configure Amarok > Collection and chose the folder that has my collection in it. It scans it but when I try to view the Local Collection in the left bar, it's empty. I have Amarok on another computer in the house and it sees them fine. I can also use Rhythm Box on the 6410 and it sees and plays them fine.

Each time it takes more than a day to set it up from scratch and import the databases etc. I would like a solution that separates all the data, including the configuration files, from the binaries and stores the data on a portable medium that can be quickly used to setup a new server.
Here are the details. I don't use Apache Friends' xampp, instead I set up apache2, php, mysql according to the instructions in [URL].. So the php, css, html etc files are in /var/www, the apache config files are in /etc/apache2 and the mysql data is in /var/lib/mysql. What is the simplest way of making the data and configuration files portable so that I can quickly set up the same server on a new machine that I have first installed Ubuntu on?
Can I put the above mentioned partitions and directories on a usb drive? Should I always make regular dumps of the mysql data and use the dump files instead? Should I keep the whole lot on the local hard drive and find a way using rsync, unison etc to mirror the files onto another potential backup machine on a regular basis - this is not a trivial operation if all the file permissions and ownerships are to be preserved.
I got a CentOS 5.3 fileserver machine (no monitor/kb/mouse). I'd like to "pair" it with a specific USB drive, so that when this USB drive is connected and mounted it would start a backup - just a simple cp /source /target will do for now - it's the "autorun on mounted a specific USB drive" part I can't really solve. Is there an elegant way to do this some sort of autorun? My only really rough idea to do it is to check if the USB drive is available with a script run in crontab every minute :-

I tried portable virtualbox but it starts very slow and runs slow without the guest additions. It just doesn't work right.What I need is a quick, portable VM that starts up quick and runs decently; I'm not expecting all that much from a USB stick but at least smooth cursor movement.I would like one that allows me to save changes on the virtual HDD, as opposed to a LiveCD style VM.
