Ubuntu :: Software To Manage Collection Of Code Snippets?
Aug 9, 2010I'm looking for a program/solution to manage my collection of code snippets.

View 2 RepliesI like the convenience of having a music player that manages the placement of my music files based on the tags of the files, sorting into a root music folder with Artist/Album/01 - Track Title.mp3 sort of hierarchy. Previously, I was using Banshee for this feature, as even most of the other gui music players don't have this library management feature. Now, I've been trying to use console-based applications, and I have been using mpd + ncmpcpp fairly successfully. When I download new music, it is downloaded to a specific folder, and that's not part of my music collection. My previous workflow would be to open a gui filemanager at the downloaded folder, and drag and drop those songs onto banshee, which would then make a copy of those files in my library hierarchy. Currently, I'm doing the same thing, using Banshee only as a sort of import program, then closing it and updating my mpd database, and there we go.
If at all possible, I'd like to automate this to something where I can define a watch folder, and when some magical program sees new music in said watch folder, it identifies the correct place for the files to be copied into my heirarchy, renaming folders and files to the correct format. I know I've written a lot describing, but I don't actually think this too uncommon a task, and I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for my problem.
I found that Kate comes with a plugin called "Kate Snippets", and it seems very nice.It lets you add commands into the snippet and even define QtScript (similar to JavaScript) functions to do things. But there is no manual or documentation that I can find.aybe someone knows more about this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes webilder just keep growing the collection? Or does it ever get rid of old photos? It seems to me an ideal webilder I could set max 100k, it would delete oldest photos to make room for new. Or, like flickrwall (windows), it would just pull one flickr photo per hour, over writing last photo.

Ok, it's TagLib's fault, but how can I know what files are causing this and how can I fix them? I suspect it may be some flac albums that I've added to my collection not long ago.
I have a few questions in regards to the music streaming service offered.
1. Does "entire music collection" mean only up to 50GB?
2. I can't sync off my external USb harddrive. Is there a way to do this. my entire music collection is on the external HD.
3.If i move music to from my external HD to the ubuntu one folder am I actually copying the file to my netbook harddrive or is it only a pointer? I have limited harddrive space on the netbook.
4. If I have to actually move files from my ext harddrive to the ubuntu one folder I may need to delete folders because of limited space. Anyway to prevent syncing so the folders uploaded do not get deleted from cloud.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get my movies to play on my xbox in a different room. It's giving me some problems. Until I get that going, I wanted to go ahead and rip my dvd collection and have it to play on my xbox. That being said, I looked at some different ripping utilities, but I wanted to try to keep everything in mp4 format (or something similar) without needing to use the DVD menu and such. I'd like to be able to enable or disable closed captioning as well.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell E6410 and I am not seeing my Local Collection. I went to Settings > Configure Amarok > Collection and chose the folder that has my collection in it. It scans it but when I try to view the Local Collection in the left bar, it's empty. I have Amarok on another computer in the house and it sees them fine. I can also use Rhythm Box on the 6410 and it sees and plays them fine.

It would be cool to script something that could be run on cron or manually to keep them synced.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a large number of video files on a couple of high capacity HDDs. The files are reasonably clearly named. I've never bothered creating a database of the files because I am inherently lazy and believe the computer should be doing this for me.
Anyways, crunch time. Had a look at the stuff in the public repositories, but they all involve too much typing, too much work. So, what are others using/ doing to maintain their "collection" indexes?
After upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (yes I'm a bit slow on the update), Amarok no longer displays or plays my itunes collection.
the Itunes collection is on a separate drive in a dual boot configuration (Win XP Pro). Drive is mounted and I can navigate to the music directory in the file browser. Also Amarok can see the directory when I try to rescan my collection.
When I rescan the collection - drilling down to the correct directory - amarok appears to be scanning the diretory. However when it is complete, the collection header (in the local music view) shows the music share with a track count, but the sub directories (album, artist, etc.) is empty.
I have removed and re-installed Amarok, and cleaned up the itunes directory - no change in the behavior.
Amarok reliably played the itunes collection in previous ubuntu distros (9.01, 9.04, 8.10, etc...).
What do I need to do to get the collection visible?
Ok, I stopped using Fedora after the version 9. Today for a change I installed Fedora 12. And now I am in an endless world of troubles. At first I was able to video call friends on msn. But it wasn't working. And then I found this guide and did everything it says. Now it's even worse, audio and video call buttons are greyed out?
Amarok is a critical software for me. No Amarok, no Linux. I installed the amarok's latest version through yum. But amarok can't scan my collection. It keeps giving this error "[ERROR!] Tried to query an uninitialized m_db! ".???
Last spring I graduated college. I lived in a party house, and being skilled in computers, I decided to build a media center for me and my five roomies. The thing worked great; MythTV for television, and a thin client in the kitchen to DJ the music. I had a samba share available so my room mates could just dump their music collection from their machines on to the media center. Adding new songs was their problem, and not mine. As you can imagine, nobody really wanted to organize the music to well. Many of them just dumped in the tunes and then searched for it in GMPC (a great interface for MPD by the way).
So over a year later, I have 150GB+ of music which is mostly unorganized. I need a way to put some order to the chaos... I tried using EasyTag for a while. Don't get me wrong, it's a great program. But sorting through every directory and song would take me DAYS, time I just don't have.I need a way to SAFELY rename and organize all of the music into a logical file structure. My initial thought was to just connect an external hard drive, copy it all into iTunes on some laptop, and then recopy the then organized iTunes database back onto the media center.
I was using amarok fine with 10.04, upgraded to 10.10 alpha, still worked fine. Decided alpha had a few bugs I didn't like so I completely removed it, installed 10.04 from scratch again (I have two partitions, / and /home, only formatted /). Now I can't get amarok to build for me at all. It plays mp3's no problem but when I try to build my collection it pretends to (takes a few minutes but goes relatively fast compared to what it should take to build) then shows 0 songs. I've already tried deleting amarok inside of /home/user/.kde/share/apps/amarok

I used to use DVD43 in Windows, but now in Slackware I am not sure what is recommended for such a process.
What would be the best music jukebox that doesn't lag when there is a lot of music in the library (400+ gigs)?
I have tried songbird, but its pretty laggy. I like to import all my music and turn on shuffle and go through my songs.
I was just using Amarok 2-3 days ago and everything was working fine. Now every time I launch Amarok it shows 0 songs in my collection. Under my collection properties, it still shows I have the correct folder selected. When I try to rescan my collection, absolutely nothing happens. Also, when I quit the program, it stays in the top gnome bar. When I click on it, the exit option is gone and I have to manually kill the process.
I'm running 10.04 with the 2.6.34-5 kernel.
During the past eight years I've used a number of computers with different operating systems and browsers. On each one I made a habit of using the bookmark utility of each browser and saving the bookmarks file. I never ensured the continuity of the bookmark file - with each new computer I started a new bookmark file. Even when I was reinstalling the operating system I didn't import the old bookmark file in the newly installed browser: I've always started a new bookmark file. As a result I have tens of bookmark files for Firefox (json format - some kind of xml?) and IE (html file format?) each one containing hundreds or thousands of saved links. I have also some files containing links in text format (created usually when I was using someone else computer).
I would like to be able to manage this bookmarks files by using some sort of "bookmark manager" software. The "bookmark manager" should be able to merge the bookmark files into a single collection/file. It should be able to identify and remove the duplicate entries (I have timely versions of the same bookmark file) and also it should be able to group the entries/links on categories (for example the bookmarked articles on codeproject.com should be grouped under the codeproject category). Not to mention that it should provide a search facility to quickly locate the interesting bookmarks. I couldn't find such software in ubuntu software center. Do you know something that even comes close to what I need?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIt seems that some of the functions I used almost daily in Amarok 1 are not to be found (at least by me) in Amarok 2. After a thread without a solution on how to play Random tracks, here is a new one.
In Amarok 1 I used to place a track (e.g. sitting in a download directory) in the playlist (by clicking on it). A right click on it in the play list revealed a few options. Two of them:
. copy track to collection.
. move track to collection
Both are gone in Amarok 2 and I could not find a replacement.
Btw when I right click on an item in the collection list (at left) there is still the Reorganize file(s) that is very much the 'collection internal' equivalent.
As I suppose that it is possible to add to the local collection, who knows how to do it?
