View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed openSuse 11.2 with kde4 and want to import my data into korganizer. I saved my tasks and dates from kde3 as a vcs file.
Unfortunately the new version of korganizer does not show any entries in this file. I thought vcs is a valid import/export format.
Is there a way how I can import my data into korganizer?
I would like the calender to boot come on the screen with only the month ctrl 3 and the contact/control panel on the left.
I do not want the Event or Task areas to show. I don't use them that much and there are buttons to call them if I do need to make notes.
I only want the numbered squares and buttons/icons to be displayed.
I've dug here:
/home/dave/.gconf/apps/evolution/calendar/display/%gconf.xml
.evolution/calendar/local/system/calendar.ics
/home/dave/.gconf/apps/evolution/calendar/%gconf.xml
I would like this to be a permanent feature when I call it from my task tray.
I have an Ubuntu 10.10 in my work environment and have issues handling the Exchange 2007 server's public calender. My outgoing server is SMTP | Incoming server is POP3 (my office have disabled IMAP and run MAPI). First I tried evolution but it said ""The server is running Exchange 5.5, evolution-exchange connector supports 2000 and 2003 Server" Installed thunderbird and i am happy with it. The only thing which i would like to do is access my exchange public calender and firefox will not be able to do it in OWA.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have a suggestion for a *simple* calender alarm application? Something that will pop up when I open up the system and tell me "Take out the trash today!" (Actually, it needs to say; 'TAKE OUT THE TRASH TODAY, DUMMY!') I've looked at *Evolution* but it is too much application for what I need. My system is Ubuntu 10.04 OS with 3gb of RAM.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA thread-aware version of gdb receives a system notification when a thread starts in the app it is debugging. GTK+ has hidden threads associated with loading icons into menus. So trying to debug a GTK+ program, even one that is apparently single-threaded, can produce a deadlock between gdb, the app and XWindows. The app (actually GdkPixbufLoader) grabs the focus, the mouse and the keyboard and then starts a thread when a menu is opened. If gdb has trouble with threads, it leaves the app blocked but still holding the mouse, et. al. Then you can't talk to gdb or any other GUI interface. To make gdb happy, all GTK+ apps need to be linked with -pthread, if you have the source. If not, gdb cannot be used. In order to break the deadlock, you need a non-GUI shell. If your /etc/inittab starts agetty, mingetty, or the like, and you can get to it with <CRTL><ALT><F3...F6>, you can do a kill -KILL <pid> on the offending app, recover and then go back to XWindows with <CTRL><ALT> <F1/F2>. Otherwise it's reboot time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 11.1 on a computer. I updated it yesterday. Now K3B, VLC, and XDVDShrink are all broken. Possibly other programs broken as well. VLC refuses to uninstall via Yast. These are high-priority programs for this computer. Multiple people use this computer for multimedia and there is not much to entertain ourselves with in our very cold climate. In other words, it is mandatory that K3B, VLC and XDVDShrink return to operational status.
Should I just upgrade to 11.3, try to fix the broken 11.1? I prefer using KDE3, not KDE4, but I can sacrifice.
Are there any programs to count keystrokes (NOT keylog) for Linux?
If not, where could I start manually?
Poking around in /dev/input has turned up nothing usable.

what i find really interesting is that in command line, i can type many programs and commands, eg firefox can be run via command line from anywhere. In windows cmd prompt, im used to having to run the .exe file by first navigating to it, then being able to run the .exe.
what i wanna know is how does linux know all the programs at the command line?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAre the programs written on schedulers ,thread library , process management, memory management, et al called systems programs ? How are they different from the programs that implement functions like open() , printf() , scanf() , read() .. they have a prefix sys_open, sys_close, sys_read etc , right ? Is there any difference of hierarchy between the programs that implement system calls and system level programs like that implement thread library, process management , memory managemnt etc..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have GParted installed, running openSUSE 11.3 with GNOME. When running GParted, it always grayed out most file system actions, supporting only hfs fully. This made no sense, as I had all the required packages installed for other file system support. However, I recently figured out how to get it to work. Using the installed menu button doesn't work, running "gnomesu /usr/sbin/gparted" doesn't work; to get it to work, I have to open up a terminal, type "su -" to log in as root, and then run gparted. The menu button and gnomesu both prompt for a password, so it should be running as root, but launching it through the root terminal is the only way to actually get it to work. Is one root different from another?

View 2 Replies View Relatedusing mint 10, now after updates my system is barely working. The programs were no longer showing in the task bar, and the system was running much slower.
[code]...
This repeated over and over again. My temperature was never to high 40-55, and I found a suggestion to update my kernel to 2.6.37-020637. After doing so there is no longer the thermal limit exceeded error but the computer is still running poorly. The system is slow and again no programs are showing up in the task bar when open.
I have an NTFS file system nfs-automounted on our RedHat servers. Users can read and write to the file system no problem, and can create new files, edit them, and delete them to their heart's content. The only issue is that utilities such as "dos2unix" cannot create temporary working files:
$ dos2unix events.0818.dat
dos2unix: converting file events.0818.dat to UNIX format ...
Failed to open output temp file: Operation not permitted
dos2unix: problems converting file events.0818.dat
This isn't limited to "dos2unix"; any other utility that creates a temporary working file gets the same problem. If I copy the file to a local file system like /tmp, it works fine. Here's the kicker: this works fine on Solaris systems. I can take the "dos2unix" utility over to a Solaris system that has that exact same NTFS file system automounted via NFS, and it works. No issues creating temporary working files at all.
can open the programs pe-install, but can't open other programs or install new programs

I am a long time Unix system admin and this one has got me stumped. When I try to run the system-config-network (or any of the system-config-xxx programs) from the links on the GNOME interface, I get a message pop-up that says, "Unknown error" and no additional information. I have also opened a terminal and run it from the command line (/usr/bin/system-network-config) and I get the same "Unknown error" pop-up. I was not the one who originally configured this server, so I am not sure of the history or how it might have been broken. I can't seem to find any debugging information or even any command line parameters that might give me a clue what the complaint is. There is no error number or any other helpful hint as to the cause of the problem.
I have been manually editing the config files so the server is up and running but it is tedious to manage the server without the GUI.Has anyone seen this before? I assume it is a configuration issue, but I am not sure where to look.uname -aLinux xxxxserver 2.6.18-164.15.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Mar 17 11:30:06 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux/etc/redhat-releaseCentOS release 5.4 (Final)
Right now when I start a program from a terminal I can't use that terminal instance again until I close the program.
I am a new user of linux, and I want to know if there is a way to execute a program/application from a terminal without blocking the terminal until the program ends.
