7 I never partitioned a HDD before and was wondering if it was a good idea to set equal amounts of memory for windows and ubuntu. Also whats a safe way of giving more memory to a partition or removing a partition all together?
Thats it for now. I've ran commands through the terminal to get the cairo dock and that worked fine along with a few other apps.
For example you go to the synaptic and you delete some programs. And then you make a mistake you delete some another program which is tied to the system. If i go in terminaland i write sudo apt-get install --fix-missing will be installed back the program which was deleted by mistake?

I have used this CD on identical hardware successfully before. When trying to install, Ubuntu sees that I do not have enough space on the HDD and tells me that only 657MiB is present and that 100% is in use. (see attached screenshots) I used DBAN thinking that this would completely wipe the drive but it has not solved things. DBAN recognised the drive as 152GiB.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use Ubuntu 9.04 exclusively on my own machines, but I have a couple of flash drives that got infected by some corrupt windows executable (*.exe) files, probably by somebody's trojan (they are Cruzer 4GB so came with installed fancy programs that I dont need but didnt remove and Windows keeps installing unwanted ini files and other trash every time I use them in somebody elses machine or in an internet cafe). I deleted quite a few files, but some are stubborn.
$ sudo chmod +w-X doesnt seem to work. How do I unprotect and remove them? The filesystem is vFAT.
I suspect the files were created by some kind of a trojan as my work requires my flash to be pretty promiscuous.
When I 've backed up all the good files I need, I'd be happy to reformat the flash drives as straight vanilla data storage and retrieval, provided I can still use them on a variety of machines running MS windows as well as on my Linux machines. Any guidance on reformatting?
I installed Ubuntu, with a dual boot functionality and worked great. I was recommended Backtrack 4 and I installed it in the system. Now, I try to use the dual boot with Backtrack, Ubuntu and Windows 7 and only Backtrack works. I tried the restore disks that I created when I got the laptop, but the problem persists. s there a way to delete this Backtrack from the system and go back to Windows 7?

I had a drive with a partition layout like so:
~50gig Windows 7 - NTFS
~100gig Ubuntu - EXT3
~100gig Snow Leopard - HFS+
~100gig Extended Partition
-- ~100gig Swap Disk - exFat
I wanted to delete the Snow Leopard partition and format the Swap Disk partition to something else. exFat was causing major file size bloat on small files. QT sdk bloated to like 11 gigs or something ridiculous like that. Anyways, I loaded up an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS live cd and gparted then deleted the Snow Leopard partition. Gparted said "Mission Accomplished" and tried to rescan the drive, but never found it. At this point I restarted the computer, a dell laptop, which didn't boot with an unable to find a bootable device error. The ubuntu live cd doesn't see the drive anymore. gparted scans for drives indefinitely and fdisk -l has no output.
the time format i have used is %m:%d:%Y:%H:%M:%S eg- 06:21:10:13:29:18 and i want to convert it to 2010-06-21 13:29:18..
