View 12 RepliesI currently have eight surveillance cameras setup that used to connect to a windows pc. I decided to throw away the old computer, take the dvr card from the old computer and use it in a new computer with ubuntu 9.10. However, till now I can't get the cameras to work.
I installed Zoneminder, and followed instructions from here and there with no useful results. What I currently have are monitors showing black screens, with the fps showing.
I am pretty much still a noob, so I am not sure where I went wrong. I do not get anything when i run XawTV (or maybe i don't know how to run it right).
when i run "lspci | grep Bt878" I get this
Code:
Following instructions from various places, this is what I have for the following files /etc/modules :
Code:
Code:
Code:
I followed the instructions for installing Zoneminder on Ubuntu 9.10: [url]
I also get some tips for setting up the tv card: [url]
What is confusing is I get a fps rate, which is a sign that the camera is working, but all i get is a black screen. The cameras used to work in the original windows setup, so i doubt that the cameras are not working.

I've decided to give ZoneMinder a try with a simple USB webcam that I've had laying around. I installed it in a VMware machine, but I could not get the webcam to "pass trough" to the virtual machine, so figured I would install ZoneMinder on the "regular" server...
I installed it, got annoyed, and autoremoved it. Now, I'm trying to reinstall it using
Code:
apt-get install zoneminder
and I'm getting a bunch of errors,
Code:

I just installed/configured Apache and also installed/configured Zoneminder to the best of my knowledge. I know Apache is running because I can go to http://localhost and see the simple webpage I made. Zoneminder starts fine and I added a monitor (camera) but when I click Monitor-1 to try and view the camera, it gives me just a black box where I should see the video. I think I'm very close, what do I need to do? I confirmed that my webcam is attached to /dev/video0 which is what I have it set to in the Zoneminder options.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Zoneminder 2.24.2 installed. It seems to work, however, when a client computer tries to use IE explorer to view the the camera the frame rate refresh is very slow (once every 10 to 15 seconds). If firefox is used to view it, it works at normal frame rate. What causes this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my first time installing zoneminder, just downloaded the latest version and trying it on my slackware 12 box. I tested the card I ordered with xawtv and was able to see video just fine.
Zoneminder seems to start fine but I can't get it to stream video.

That's what I get when I try to view. I'm not sure if there is a log file I can check to see if there is an error.
8.04 permissions. I have had ubuntu 8.04 running Zoneminder 1.22.3 for over 2 years with a capture card and cctv cameras. I just bought a Trendnet IP512p camera. My zoneminder box will not connect to it. The main error I get is, [Restarting capture daemon for ipcam, shared memory not valid], I am wasting time with shared memory settings. I just booted a live cd of 9.10 with Zoneminder 1.22.3 that I remastered from another system and the IP camera works fine. (It ran all night in the live environment.) From that test I have concluded I have a permission problem in my 8.04 install that is not letting www-data (the ZM process) access what it needs to grab the stream. From the same box I can stream the camera to firefox while using vnc to connect to it.

I fixed several issues with deprecated functions and other miscellaneous stuff. I just completed a build of CentOS 5.5 server to be used for Zoneminder using these awesome instructions: [URL]The problem I have is I am trying to use a DVR card that there must not be any drivers in the OS for. The card is an 8-port DVR card with a Techwell 6805 chipset. Using Ubuntu, I had to download the driver using this command "git clone git://gitorious.org/tw68/tw68-v2.git" I just wanted to try CentOS and see how it works out. I just dont know how to download the drivers for this card.
Running lspci gives this output for the card:

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have some troubles configuring it.
I.) Setting up the network: I have 3 pcs:
1x Ubuntu 10.04 (Desktop)
1x Ubuntu 10.10 (Desktop)
1x Windows 7 (Professional [activated])
I tried setting up samba (install all the required packages and stuff) but it does not work for the Ubuntu 10.10 PC! I can enter the IP of my 10.04 desktop pc and those files are shared, however, with the exact same settings (and other IP) the 10.10 pc does not seem to be able to use any samba shared stuff at all! (Not even the samba stuff it shared). However, on the 10.04 I can access the shared 10.10 stuff so samba should be running and be configured correctly. I know uninstalled everything (Samba) and replaced the smb.conf with an old backup. Is there any guide how I can set up an samba share that also appears in the network? I will sooner or later update the 3rd PC to ubuntu too, however, I'd like to have Windows compactiblity in my network.
II.) Working with PlayOnLinux (POL): I have installed Warcraft 3 + TFT successfully, however, I don't know how I can install any game that is not on the POL list into the POL framework.
III.) Programs that I am missing: I have found a lot of software already that I use every day, however, here is some stuff I am missing that I haven't found a good replacement until yet: (Would be great if you tell me programs that could replace them) Mikogo (Teamviewer is totally laggy) [An presentation remote-control GUI-based program]
IV.) Troubles using Empathy/Pidgin: I am using the latest pidgin and latest empathy version and enabled the empathy plugin for pidgin. However, from time to time Pidgin tells me that I need to reactivate accounts and I will get disconnected. Is there any way to solve this? (And why does this happen?)
V.) Partition "magic" - Suggestions or feedback: I have these partitions:
1.) Primary Ubuntu, 20GB, ext2 (System)
2.) Extended, 400GB
3.) (Extends 2.) Data, 50GB (Backups & co), NTFS - Should be accessable in windows too
4.) (Extends 2.) Files, 300GB (Media...), NTFS - Should be accessable in windows too
5.) (Extends 2.) Docs, 50GB (.doc, .xcl,..), NTFS - Should be accessable in windows too
6.) Primary Windows, 100GB
7.) Swap
In linux I mount them as /data, /files/, /docs, /windows and /.VI.) Backup the whole system (Solved): Connected to V, I would like to know how to backup the whole primary ubuntu drive with being able to restore it.
VII.) Login issues:Whenever I log into my ubuntu, it says "Waiting for a program to react" (Power Manager). It says logout or wait as actions.
Yesterday I installed Centos on my "old" pc. I followed this tutorial to setup my ssh I followed all the steps but when try to connect from my laptop to the server (with putty) it says "Network error: connection timed out".
