Software :: Recover LVM Partition In Suse

I have some problems with LVM partition.We have suse linux 9 on our FTP server. After crashing our power supply we face some problem with our hard disks.We have 3 hard disks on our system, one is 80 G and two are 250 G. The Os is installed on 80G hard disk and 250G hard disk has LVM partition.After fixing the power supply, the Os is booted but LVM partitions are not mounted automatically.After researching on the web, I found a lot of article about LVM partitions but I want to recover my LVM partition.
1)What should I do to be able to mount my LVM partition and recover my data.
2)Can I mount this LVM partition on another system. I mean I have connected one of 250G hard disks to usb port, and yast detect this hard disk. Of course on the main system it was detected, too.

I let a 'friend' use my laptop over the weekend. Now when I turn it on, it loads the BIOS details, then says no active partition, then no OS cannot be found.
It looks like they have deleted the partition with SuSE with the Grub Loader.
I cannot load up SuSE or Windows 7!
Any ideas on how to recover the boot to load Windows 7?
I have tried using the Windows 7 install disc to repair - but it does not recognise that Windows is installed and wants to do a clean install only.
Is it worth trying to reinstall SuSE and hope it detects Windows on the other partition? (I assume it is still there!)
I cannot get to a command prompt.

i have windows 7 installed on my laptop and working fine..i want to install Open Suse 11.2 along side. I tried installing by booting with DVD for Suse. But it gave me warning to delete the windows partition.I would like to keep the partition intact with windows 7 and install Suse. Any suggestions ?I can create partition on my laptop but i do not want to modify the current windows structure.

I've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition.However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.

I have a laptop with an original linux Suse Enterprise 11 OS, and a Windows 7 installed after, I'm a beginner in Linux and actually I need some disk space, so I gonna free the linux one, so two partitions should be wiped, the ext and the swap, and that will provide enough space for my purpose, my questions is the follow: I'll be using Gparted to format, does not this make any issue or conflict with windows 7? I have a partition of the Suse System Recovery (to conserve of course), if I have formatted the partition where the Suse was installed, are there any risk to lose (crush) other partitions? If I want to install (recover) my Suse after freeing spaces (two disks) using my System Recovery CD, (again ^^) are there any risk to lose (crush) other partitions?

I initially installed SuSe11.2 with /tmp mounted on separate partition on another physical disk( there are two physical disks). Now I want to attach disk with existing SuSe11.2 to another motherboard so I would like that /tmp becomes part of the root partition. Will deleting /tmp mount point in /etc/fstab create automatically new /tmp from root at next startup, or something else has to be done to achieve, that in future, /tmp resides on root partition instead? In this way it would be much easier to move the disk with SuSe11.2 to another motherboard.

I am relatively new to Linux and Opensuse. I created the / root partition and now it is growing and maxing out. I have partitioner available to me but how do I change the partition size when the root partition is mounted. Do I login as root and then umount or modify fstab and restart and change from command line or do I format and reinstall everything? I have room to expand but not sure how to manage this?

I deleted Ubuntu partition from Windows and it deleted one of the LOgical partition(used for Data storage) along with it.Anny ideas how to recover that Logical partition?Windows disk manager now displays that partition as 'FRee Space'

I recently had to install ubuntu 10.10 through wubi because my olde ubuntu broke after a failed upgrade. Now I am quite happy with everything in 10.10 except I can't get to the files in my olde home folder because I chose the home folder encryption option in the installation process. How can I recover my home folder? They all seemed to be recovering from another user not another partition.

I need a way to recover my Windows partition that was completely repartitioned when I originally moved to Ubuntu.
When I first moved to Ubuntu 8.04, I somehow overwrote my Windows partition. It happened on a laptop and since then, I've purchased a new one so I can now go back and attempt to unzip the partition holding 10.04 and get to the files I had under Windows.

Well, my laptop slid off my couch and crashed down onto hardwood floor. The hard drive is shot. I was using grub and had both ubuntu 10.10 and windows 7 on it. Can't load either OS.
What options do I have for trying to recover data off the ubuntu partition? I tried loading livecd...for some reason, it won't work. Does livecd require a working harddisk?

I was trying to resize to the left the sdb5 partition where ubuntu is/was installed and things got messy. I lost the partition it was unallocated. Next "cleverly" used livecd and reinstall ubuntu (thinking it was just like a repair the system thing) but instead ubuntu install from new...all my data is lost...gone with the wind. I try sadly enough testdisk but it says partition corrupted impossible to recover. Now the whole disk shows as unallocated in gparted.
I am running ubuntu from a second hard drive and strange enough my windows 7 partition with files is save and sound. I wonder if there is anything I can do to recover my files (guess the enitre partition now is lost). I try photorec and no files were able to recover then try scalpel and it says files were not find or couldn't read the partition. Of course "cleverly" I didn't had a recent back up of my files. Now I cant access the new ubuntu partition that still in sdb5 at boot takes me directly to windows 7.

Well i have an 20GB HDD (/dev/sdb) formated with ext4 and has very important files on it .All of sudden something went wrong and the 20GB partition has been lost . Now how do i have to recover that partition and primarily recover those files . Gparted shows no partition on it but unpartitioned space .

I have no idea what to do now. I have downloaded super grub - because one of the pages that i googled said it would help - but my pc does not read from either the cd or usb drives - don't know why.I need this pc recovered today .

Accidentally, I deleted my '/etc' & '/bin' folder (i know, my fault). Then, I boot liveCD and tried to copy or fix this issue. And then when I can't figure nothing to fix it, I don't know why, I want install system on my existing system, and I thought that new installation don't touch and change my /home folder. And this step Was my biggest mistake, after this I get raw /home partition without my data. Now, I'm trying recovery my data from /home, and I don't know how do this. I'm using program testdisk but I don't know how it work with lvm and ext4. Can I recover content of '/home' or it's impossible?

I've formated partition to empty - only erased information that partition is NTFS.
Partition data haven't been changed. So i think only little change to partition table is required.

I have stupidly and inadvertently formatted my home partition on my other system while trying to 'downgrade' to Ubuntu 9.10. I have isolated the hard drive and am currently using Testdisk to discover the partitions on there. The scan hasn't yet finished however it appears there are two entries of each partition.

When attempting the downgrade, I was wanting to keep the home folder (and root and swap) all at the same size. I am pretty sure I fouled up by trying to revert the file system type to ext3 from ext4. Which partition out of the two 'home' ones, I should be attempting to keep? I cannot see a difference between them but this is how testdisk has reported the drive. Apart from the standard 'back up everything next time' and more fitting for me 'pack up your PC and never use it again!', does anyone have any specific advice on recovering my original home partition?

Yesterday, my windows partition (in a dual-boot with windows7/ubuntu) failed, and in trying to fix that partition, I managed to mess up both, including the MBR and what not. I have been desperately trying to recover them, and believe there's a good chance of doing that as I haven't yet written any data since the crash.
On running testdisk, I have the following info about them:

I am quite sure that the data I'm interested in recovering is in the partitions found on rows 2 and 3 (which correspond to my old windows drive c:, and my shared data drive, respectively). Currently, I am running off ubuntu that's living on my portable harddrive, and system> Disk Utility shows the internal (messed up) harddrive as one unpartitioned unknown mass of 250gb, with "bad sectors".

I was installing windows vista on my computer, so I backed up everything to a external drive which was formatted with ext2. I then proceeded to install windows vista. When I got to the partition section I tried installing windows vista to my raid 0. When it didn't work I decided that I would delete all my existing partitions and create a new one. Well in my haste I accidentally deleted my ext2 partition from my backup drive that was still connected. As soon as I realized what I had done I shutdown the windows install and disconnected my external drive. This is the current state of my drive from parted:
Model: WD 15EADS External (scsi)

I know that the drive only had one partition before and that it took up the entire disk and it was ext2 (maybe ext3).

A HP Netserver LP2000r, with original SCSI controller and HP NetRaid-2M controller, 3x 36GB Ultra3 HDD in RAID5, Debian (sarge/etch), has crashed after 992 days without reboot. From all that I can see, a hardware failure, most likely with the memory. The HP Diagnostic tools cannot find any problem, but everytime I boot into Knoppix, I get between 2minutes and 2 hours of runtime, and then either a kernel oops or just a complete and sudden halt.
Well, the box has earned its money. However, there is some data on the drives that I need to recover (yes, I have beaten myself up properly about not backing up that data, don't even go there !). There are three partitions: sda1 is /, sda2 is swap and sda3 is a LVM volume with 3 logical volumes on it. As far as I can tell, the hardware defect must have been creeping in and has made a total mess of the inodes in all these partitions.
After booting into Knoppix, I can restore the volumes using pvscan, vgscan, lvscan, vgcfgrestore and vgchange. If I try and mount them: mayhem. So I try and check them, using fsck.ext3. All sorts of interesting nonsense, such as a completely empty inode 11 (the first inode) and then obviously from there on all else is pointless. I tried using debugfs, but the information on what to do with it is somewhat spurious.
P.S.: Tomorrow I will go and get myself a 16GB Flash Drive and then hopefully I will be able to dump the partitions one by one onto that drive and transfer the images onto a different computer for analysis and data recovery.

I moved my NTFS partition with XP and after restarting got the grub> prompt. ls,grub-install and mount are not recognized. find /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0,2,a)
how can I recover? my *nix is osol and I have grub 0.97 (legacy)
I have both a osol and ubuntu cds, but it seems I should be able to load from the grub prompt.

I need to mount a bsd/386 partition on my hard drive to recover data. I am running the latest CentOS 5.3, downloaded and installed in the last week.My searches have turned up a mount command, that does not work.
[root@new-host-2 ~]# mount -t ufs -o fstype=444bsd /dev/sda3 /mnt/bsd
mount: unknown filesystem type 'ufs'
[root@new-host-2 ~]# mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/bsd

So, is there a patch to get mount -t ufs working?is there a patch to get bsd/386 filesystem type? have not build a kernel before, so I would like to avoid that, but I will attempt it if I have no other options.
