Software :: Program Does Not Release Diskspace Even I Have Deleted Them / Resolve It?
Aug 5, 2010
I run whole batch of simulations and taking a lot of diskspace (8Gbytes). I have deleted them after examine the results. However, the diskspace remained the same even though i have deleted the files (rm -rf *). Sound like the program does not release the diskspace (maybe in cache or virtual memory? ). It only release the diskspace after i exit completely the program.
Is there a way to ask the program to release the diskspace without exit the program?
I have a problem to gain my hardisk size after deleting a large amount of files. i have root partition size with 196 GB. actual used size in that partition is about 70GB, with command df -h, the used size 139GB. I have no idea to find out where is the hidden files. this happend after I delete the large amount of files because the hardisk almost full. the file i have deleted is almost 60 GB size.
The app in linux server(CentOS 5.3) uses files from a mount directory(Shared windows directory in read only mode). At the same time, the same file might be edited by user in windows env. We were assuming that as the windows folders are mounted in read-only mode in linux so any change done by user in windows environment would be fail safe i.e. can be safely committed to the file. But when the file concurrently used both by Linux and as well by windows, at some point linux does not release the file handles and the files get corrupted(deleted too). Earlier we were using win2k server and this step was hardly reproducible and win2k was releasing file handles quickly. But with centos, we really had touch time managing files.
Deleted a whole bunch of files, I have backed it up but it was from about 2 weeks ago and as I had added loads of stuff in the meantime I urgently need to recover the files.Ubuntu 9.10. Any and every file recovery program you know please.Preferably one that allows me to recover an entire directory, not just individual files, but it'll be fine if that is it.
I need a script to fill up my diskspace on my Linux box. It would be best if I can leave 200 MB free. I have Nagios installed, and it should email me when something like this happens, but how do I test it?I have Perl and PHP installed so if you want to use that then sure.
I'm using Slackware64 with multilib (AlienBob) and i can't compile 32bit programs; 64bit programs do compile (tried helloworld). I read the tutorial and folowed it step by step setting my paths right (32dev.sh) and changing libsuffix="64" to libsufix="" from the slackbuild script. In the attached config.log in the core test section there is this line that i find interesting Code...
I searched the forum with various terms and didn't find anything, so my apologies if this is a common and/or newbie problem. It seems that when I have a USB driveplugged in to switch the files around, those that I delete are still taking up space. I first noticed it with a Chinese MP3 player and thought it was the player being crappy. I could still play all the songs that were supposedly gone. Today, I noticed it with a little thumb drive that I've had for years. I plugged it into my husband's computer running winXP, and the files showed up in a weird, unusable form. I was able to delete them for real.
I was told I need to build / configure a RHEL 5.1 server. I did so using the old ISO I downloaded from Red Hat's site. My question is if I do a 'yum upgrade' command, will that then change my release date from 5.1 to 5.5?
I Have installed oracle 11g release 2 in fedora 12 but after completion of the installation there is no launch shortcut has generated nor any where any icon for launching oracle is given so now how can i run oracle.
Since I use this for work, I don't want the DE to get unstable with updates, but want to do other updates like security updates. Should I disable the KDE Factory Desktop repos? How can I work this so everything updates without taking my KDE into 4.4.1 beta? I ask because I'm not sure yet what comes down through OSS, NON OSS, and Updates repos....or, if I can only do those. I'm just trying to make it dummy proof..I don't tend to break things in linux
I have heard its going to be July. One concern is KDE4.4 and whether this is going to be the KDE default environment for 11.2. Over at KDE, 4.4 is out with a 1 click install for 11.2. The main problem I have discovered from reading the KDE forum is poor multi monitor support with separate X screens. From what I read this is extremely problematic. I would like to update to 4.4 to get the equalizer back in Amorak but attempted once, the day before they officially released 4.4 with no success. I wonder if anyone here is using 4.4 in a separate X screen setup?? Additional thought-- when 11.3 is released will 4.4 be the only option or will we be able to elect to use 3.xx??
I just updates to 4.5.4 from 4.5.3 from the openSUSE 4.5 stable repo and when I open aboutKDE (from most KDE apps; Help->About KDE), it says I have KDE 4.5.3 Release 1!
I was wondering, is there ever more than one build of a given Ubuntu release (but with the same major/minor version)? That is, if I download X.10 a month after it comes out, and then I download it a few days before the next version is released, say, will it be bit-for-bit the same as the one I originally downloaded? Or does the Ubuntu team do new builds over time, fixing things, etc.?
Event 1............................................................ full_name: JENNY_JENNINGS genre: f age: 32
[code]....
But as you can see in the input, in the 2nd "Event", the line containing "age" is not present, but in the output my code is printing the 1rst age value twice. The correct output should be blank in the age field for 2nd line in the output like this:
I will have to code this. However I am lacking of time since I have too much to do. make a short code bash/dash to prompt the country with Zenity, then, get the PLS or m3u url and prompt with another zenity which radio to play. http://www.listenlive.eu/index.html
Is there anything like burning rom from nero or roxio cd/dvd copier. Do you know of any dvd copying program? like without making the image and then burning with just one process just copy the disc sorta program like roxio dvd copier? I wanted to make copies of movies I made a dvd of but aside from image burn which is a hassle to make the image first. is there something for burning on the fly or dvd/cd copying? infrarecorder and cdburnerxp do not work for me at all.
What is the reason to drop Xdialog from the new release; is any replacement on the horizon? (beside zenity that is really crippled version of Xdialog).
managed to get KVirc 4 installed on 11.3 RC2 everytime i try to install its giving me an error about Perl 5.10 / libPerl 5.10.#By default 11.3 will come with libPerl 5.12 / Perl 5.12How can i upgrade kvirc to perl 5.12 or install perl 5.10?
I've always had a doubt about what means the last numbers after the For example, what could have possibly changed between Mesa package version: 7.8.2-22.1 and 7.8.2-23.1 ????
Thats with every package, including KDE, etc etc. If its the same package, what could change from 2 different release numbers?
