Software :: How To Connect OpenOffice 3 To Oracle Database?
Mar 14, 2009I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 and now I've installed OpenOffice 3, both in Spanish.I have oracle client installed and can connect to Oracle databases with clients like tora.What I try:
- Open Database and select connect to an existing database.
- Select Oracle JDBC.
- Next
- DatabaseName: I put the sid of the database of oracle. (orcl)
Server URL: The name of the server containing the database. It's resolved by a ping. (database.organization.es)
Port: 1521
- Oracle JDBC Driver:
oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
But I press the test button, I receive an error: JDBC Driver can't be loaded (really, the message is in spanish).

May 21, 2010I will be setting up Apache web server in DMZ and Oracle web server (Windows) in LAN. The requirement is to allow logged in visitors to view / change their details via the web site. What is the best way to configure this. Is simply allowing web server's ip to communicate with oracle server's ip (and the oracle port) is secure enough or is there a way to do this more securely?

Jul 24, 2011I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
2) Then I ran
sudo apt-get install bc (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
(gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine) Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
I ran the following command-
--Manually uninstalling Oracle 10g--
sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/oracle /etc/oratab /etc/init.d/oracle-xe /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe_client
Then I again ran the following command to install oracle-xe
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
See below what I got as the output-

Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed. So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked. After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.

Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

Jan 24, 2010I am upgrading my server and I have a lot of sites. Since I cannot take my server down for a few days, maybe a week until I manage to migrate all the sites to the new machine, I figured I could migrate them one by one. After migrating one, I would somehow tunnel the requests of that name virtual host to my internal machine. When everything is migrated, I would then switch the machines, update ip's and stuff and everything will work just fine.
However I cannot seem to find a way to do this tunneling. is this at all possible? If not, what alternatives do I have?

Jan 14, 2010I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 and I am having problems with my wireless. It is a Broadcom B43xx series wireless card. I have the restricted drivers installed but I have trouble with it maintaining a constant connection. I attend a college where in order to connect to the wi-fi you need to have their certificates installed.The wireless certificates are installed and I'm telling Ubuntu to use it in order to connect but it drops in and out. I will be connected for a minute or two but then it will randomly drop out on me. I know its not my wireless hardware because any other wireless that I connect to off campus works perfectly fine. Any ideas on how to get this to work correctly?
I hate to bring this OS up but my Windows 7 connects perfectly. (On the same laptop. I triple boot: Ubuntu, Windows 7 [gaming OS] and Backtrack4 )If it helps any the wireless AP uses WPA2-Enterprise, PEAP, and MSCHAPv2 authentication, and the CA certificate (which I have selected to use), plus my user name and password.

Jul 23, 2010I'm travelling right now so am not connecting into my normal router. When using Ubuntu it connects to the Wifi and then after about 15 secs drops me out again. I I boot to Windows XP this doesnt happen.

May 18, 2011I'm not sure if this is an issue with Ubuntu or with the BIOS. Basically when I start up my computer, the ondemand governor seems to work just fine (ranging from 800 MHz to 2200 MHz). However after some indeterminate amount of time, it will get stuck at 800 MHz and I'm not able to figure out how to get it to scale properly again.
When I restart my computer, it acts normal again for some time before locking in at the lowest frequency.
It seems like it may be related to this post: [URL]. The last post in that thread mentioned that it could be related to the temperature, that may be the case in my situation. Even if the temperature is low after it locks to the lowest frequency, it won't increase the speed as needed
My question is, is there any way to override this and let the CPU continue to run at higher frequencies once it locks down to the lowest frequency? My computer doesn't feel like it's getting that hot (it's a laptop), and I'd like to not have to be able to restart it every time this happens.

Slackware :: Internet Connection Drops Out ?
Oct 18, 2010Every now and again my internet drops out for no apparent reason. I try dhcpcd -k eth0/dhcpcd eth0 and nothing. I try modprobe -r <driver> modprobe <driver> dhcpcd blah blah and nothing. /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1/2/d restart. Nothing. The only thing that works is rebooting my system. how to reset my connection without rebooting?

May 11, 2011I did a fresh install of Slackware 13.37, and everything is great, and thanks to Pat and the team.
Recently I notice that Wireless drops out all the times, and it will show low connection first, then basically drops.
Is there anything I forgot to do?
For me, I normally have two ways to bring up wireless, sometime I use WICD, sometimes I just use "ifconfig....iwconfig...dhcpcd eth1"
btw, if I log in WindowsXP, wireless never or seldom drops.
Fedora :: Network Connectivity Drops Out Randomly?
Jan 21, 2010Installed Fedora 12 recently.
For some reason, my network connectivity drops out randomly. This has happened between 5 minutes to 1 hour of booting and logging into the machine.
When the internet does work, its great, and super fast !
When it drops out, Internet stops working, cannot ping to external site and I cannot ping my router 10.1.1.1
I have onboard realtek network ports on my motherboard.
Fedora Networking :: 15 Drops Network After Suspend
Jul 3, 2011I just performed a clean install on a desktop (older IBEX model) that is connected directly to a Cicso router; this is a DSL service. I configured the Network during the install, and all went well, the installation script downloaded many software modules, I was able to set up my mail accounts, etc. Now, if I suspend this machine and log back on I notice that I am no longer connected to the Network. Clicking on the Network icon brings up the configuration pane, and the original network appears to be there, but I cannot figure out how to make it reconnect without rebooting.

Apr 18, 2011here is the problem: for some reason, after switching song, sometimes even after starting song, my volume level gets to highest level, and when I try to lower it with my DELL Inspiron 9400 laptop's multimedia keys, it drops to minimal level (no sound). Then I have to adjust it in YAST Sound configuration or in Kmix panel - adjust "Master" chanell. But after another song switch - everythng starts all over.
As mentioned, to adjust volume I use multimedia keys. On DELL Inspiron 9400 laptop.
Opensuse version: 11.3
Used mixer: Kmix.
Used master channel (for multimedia keys): PCM
Volume level does't drop or increase, if I don't change song manually.
Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Drops Out For Firefox
Jan 7, 2010We have three computers at home. I have the only one running Linux, the other two are running Windows XP and using Belkin Wireless G USB Adapters. I started using Linux around November, and used a powerline ethernet cable. (It consists of two parts. One part you plug into your router and the power socket beside it, and the other you plug into your computer and the power socket beside that. It then uses the power lines as a network, and acts like a normal ethernet cable. I used the 'Auto eth0' connection without much problem). Back then, my internet would stop working once every few hours but only for firefox. Other programs such as bittorrent and Spotify continued working.
However, since I got back from holiday a few days ago the situation's worse. The internet regularly pauses (every few minutes, including spotify and msn) for about 30 seconds, and then comes back. Downloads are not cancelled, as they are when I am disconnecting from the internet, they merely seem to pause. The other two computers in our house don't have this problem, and I have tried the wireless adapter, yet it seems to pause at the same times as the wired connection. I know that it too used to work back in November.
Ubuntu Networking :: Server 9.10 Lan Connection Drops ?
Jan 23, 2010I got a new low power file server (Atom 330 with ion), but didn't enjoy it since.
I installed Ubuntu server 9.10 64bit.
I randomly experience connection drops. As I'm installing and testing, there are lots of ssh windows open, I transfer much data using scp from my laptop to the server (all connected to wired lan).
Connection drops are as follows: ssh windows terminate with "connection reset by peer", but not always all the ssh windows terminate. For example, I edited a mediatomb config using nano, that stayed open even with scp and all other ssh windows cut.
I also have apache2 installed because I'm running urd (a usenet download tool). It seems that when I start the deamon, connection drops. So I killed apache2 to try out but that didn't solve the problem.
I left ping run all the time, and the server is pinging back all the time, which is really strange as I thought that a connection drop means the whole network interface going down.
When this drop occurs, I have to wait 2 minutes until I can ssh back into the server.
I also installed mediatomb, but it isn't really fun to stream a video to my ps3 as it always hangs after 5 to 10 minutes.

Feb 4, 2010since ive upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 i have noticed that when i leave my computer for a while or just stop using it or leave it idling my internet connection drops. my comp doesnt hibernate or go to stand by. does anyone know any reasons for this? or know how to stop this? its hard to download something when my comp drops the internet connection.

Jun 22, 2010i have an asus eeepc that i recently upgraded from ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. the wireless networking has worked great up until about 2 weeks ago. now it occasionally drops the connection (can't ping the gateway), even though the "blue bars" still say connected. my current solution is to click the bars, do a "disconnect", and then reconnect.i've ruled out the router being a problem (all 17 other wireless devices in my house remain connected), and i've ruled out a laptop hardware problem (when i dual boot into win7, i never lose my connection).
i'm new to linux (installed 9.10 back in february), but not new to computers/networking. i run a major campus lan [windows based] and have worked all aspects from the early mainframe days to client support to server admin to helpdesk - after 17 years, i'm now in management, so i've lost my edge a little... plus, being brand new to linux, i'm feeling a little lost in the troubleshooting aspect of this.i do believe that i've narrowed my problem down to "almost exactly" when this occurs. the wireless connection drops out as soon as i start to do "network intensive" stuff like watch a videos video, play a facebook flash game, or (and here's the kicker), try to run the update manager. unfortunately, this means that i have not been able to update for a few weeks now. i'm up to about 150mb worth of updates that are waiting.

Aug 17, 2010I've had a computer running Ubuntu connected to my TV for a few weeks now, but as of yesterday, I can't get it to keep a connection to the Internet. Everything works well for an hour or so after a reboot, but then no WAN connections work. When this happens, no sites load in Firefox or Chrome, I can't ping Google, I can't SSH to the box from work, and none of the pages I have running on apache load from remote computers. However, all local area connections seem to work fine. SSH from within my LAN takes much longer than usual, but it does still connect.

Sep 15, 2010I have been running Ubuntu for 2 years and have not had a problem like this. Randomly one day my wireless dropped out. I can see other networks on my laptop, but they are all locked so i cant test and see if i can connect to them so i went to my friends house and was connect fine for over an hour.
Also my PS3 and my windows box connect to my router and internet just fine.
I then assumed that this was a hardware issue then with my wireless card on my laptop. So i called up lenovo and they sent me a new wireless card. I installed it and still had the same problem.
