I have read the solution fot the problem posed by someone who couldnt find a taskbar in gnome. I have KDE (4, I think). I can get to a text prompt, but then I dont know what to do. "Restart x" doesn't work. Meanwwhile, user can get to his e-mails but not to his files.
Anybody knows how to fix overlapping tasks in KDE system taskbar? Here System Monitor overlaps with digiKamWorkaround to rearrange icons - start any new task.Sorry for taking real photo of the screen. When I do PrintScreen KSnapShot task appears in the list and makes all task to rearrange. The resulting screenshot contains already fixed view.
After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04 all of a sudden, the task manager or task bar, keeps changing length. The individual window "buttons" themselves keep changing size - flashing even, and the space between them also changes. It is driving me nuts! The little system tray(?) icons no longer appear in the system tray, but all stacked on top of each other in the top left corner.
How do you launch a task from a terminal command line interface and it not be kill'ed if you close the terminal window. Like if I run jedit I type jedit & which launches jedit as a backgorund task. But, if I close terminal window, jedit dies to. How do I laucnch jedit and completely divorce it from the terminal task?
I have my task list in evolution (mainly so it can sync with my phone and online task list) but I always forget to look at the task list. Is there an application or plugin which periodically displays the contents of the tasklist or even better, it briefly displays the most urgent/important tasks when I login? Or anything else which automatically displays the most important tasks. Currently I have to open the task list and look at them (which I usually forget). I do not mean some kind of alarm when the task is due but more a daily reminder of what to do.
For a certain task, everytime I have to open 10 bash terminals and write different commands on them. Any way to automate this? I am running Fedora linux.
For some reason randomly my task bar messes up for some reason. Im not sure if many other people have this. but ill provide a picture so you can see it. Some times its even worse, like i get a double account name and double of everything else.
I don't know what I have done this time, but on my desktop I have the cube effect, which is working fine. But now when I minimize a page it goes to the opposite end of the taskbar instead of to the workspaces I have.Using Ubuntu 10.04. Not sure if I have explained this properly. Also when I flip the cube to a clean desktop and open a new browser, it doesn't open on that side of cube , but reverts to original workspace and opens in a new tab there.
First off, I'd like to thank all the people on these forums. Gotten a lot of help and answers from reading these forums. So I've been trying for what seems like forever to get a decent vertical task bar. So far, KDE seems to be the only thing that manages to get it close, but I don't want to be restricted to KDE to have a desktop that works the way I want it to.I've also tried some dock apps, and while they look nice, I'm not really liking them.
Here's basically what I'm looking for:shows a nice vertical list with a small icon followed by the name of the window.keeps windows from the same application next to each other (but doesn't group them all into one keeps everything reasonably sized; doesn't make a single window take up all the available vertical space support some kind of window notification flashing (ex. an IM window flashing when you get a new message)
at this point I want to redirect what I have in hand to a file but also ... fork? or split? whatever the term, to continue onward so that I can pipe the results further into wc -l or sort or programX. without having to re-loop through that huge log file.
I'm getting increasingly aggravated with tis so I figured I would ask and see if there are any insights on this.
I'm currently running F12 on a Dell XPS m1330 laptop. Everything is going great with the exception of pulseaudio. Rather than using the internal mic and speakers I'm using external (usb) Bose companion speakers and and external mic that is integrated into my Microsoft Lifecam Cinema webcam.
Now, when these work, they're spot on. No issues at all. HOWEVER, pulseaudio frequently disregards them and tries to use something else (the internals) or just stops using them. Nothing crashes, nothings broken, they just get "deselected". This happens when I back out of a game or program, log out and login, etc. I then have to jump through a series of hoops to get it configured back for the "correct" setup.
I got opensuse11.3 with KDE desktop. After installation everything was ok, but all of a sudden the right hand side of the taskbar (system tray) went in towards the left and I can't see the open windows in the task bar. I have gone through the panel settings and everything but the problem remains.
Very new installation of openSuse 11.3 on T42 laptop. I was having trouble with a persistent notification and in trying to remove it have lost several important widgets including the speaker volume, wifi connection and upgrade notification icons.I cannot identify some of these from the add widgets option. Even tried a new installation with re format of root, (but retaining /home,) thinking that I would get all back to how it was, but no, the fresh installation has the widgets still missing. Is it possible the desktop configuration is on /home partition?
The task bar manager swallowed my desktop folder when I was moving it around. Now, I have a little folder icon that pops up a menu when I click it. How do I put my desktop folder back on the desktop w/o endangering my task manager?
i know that emerald changes the window borders. how exactly do i go about changing the scroll bar, task bar, etc. i know metacity generally controls this but my fusion icon is set to compiz by default and when i switch it to metacity emerald no longer works. should i be looking for compiz themes instead of metacity themes to change my task bar and scroll bar and if so how do i install them?
I'm fairly new to the Ubuntu world but have been simply amazed by what it can do. Someone told me to install Mac4Lin after I was done and I've done that. The desktop looks a lot more like a Mac especially after installing AWN. I do have a bit of a problem and would be very grateful for any assistance here. My taskbar is set to a background pattern which gives it the OSX look. However, towards the left side where the menu's reside, there is a bit which does not show the background pattern and instead has a dull grey color. I've been searching around for where I can tweak that bit to also have the the same pattern as the taskbar but have had no luck. Attached is a screenshot.
Because the on/off switch vanished from my task bar, I managed to delete it. It did warn me. Anyway, I can't get it back and I don't know where anything is. I have a second user account but Ctl+Alt+Del doesn't even give me a logout option! Bad. ubuntu version 10.04
I have used the Ubuntu 10.04 and I had installed the software to change the boot screen of the OS. The tool is ply mouth and now after installing it I am not able to get the task bar and even select any of the menu options
I messed up and deleted some task bar thing from the bottom bar. I do not know how to get it back, but I want it back because I can't do anything with it like this. Here is a picture of what I see.
