Software :: Neither Drupal Nor PhpMyAdmin Can Connect To Database

I have two VMs, one as a web server and one as a database server. Both are RHEL5.2 Web server httpd-2.2.3-22.el5_3.1 php-5.1.6-23.2.el5_3 Database server mysql-5.0.22-2.1
On the web server, I can connect to the database just fine with a user I created with all privileges on *.*
Both phpMyAdmin and Drupal, though, tell me they cannot connect to the database. phpMyAdmin says :#2003 - The server is not responding..Drupal says:Failed to connect to your MySQL database server. MySQL reports the following message: Can't connect to MySQL server on '172.16.1.1' (13).However, I can also connect to the database with a simple little PHP test script.What do I need to do to get these apps to see the database that is up, running, available, reachable, in existence, etc. etc???

First i get drupal package :-
"sudo wget http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects....tar.gz"
this will download the Drupal file into current directory.
> unpack the files issue the command
"tar -zxvf drupal-6.13.tar.gz"
this will extract the files into a folder in home directory > make a directory in the web root folder to keep the Drupal files in. To do this type in
"sudo mkdir /var/www/drupal"
> move the Drupal content over to the web folder. Type in
"sudo mv drupal-6.13/* drupal-6.13/.htaccess /var/www/drupal"
> set up folders for media associated with the site to do this issue "sudo mkdir /var/www/drupal/sites/default/files"

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 with Apache, phpMyAdmin and MySQL. Normally phpMyAdmin loads properly, but the other day I created a large database of 6,000+ tables and 1.3 GB of data in the entire database. Now phpMyAdmin loads and shows my different databases, but if I try to open the new large database, it just loads a white page with no content. Does anyone know if I can reconfigure my server so it will be able to show parts of the database?

I am at work right now and noticed my blog is down because of a database connection error. phpmyadmin wont load either it says theres an error, and webmin wont load either. So what would cause a mysql to go down? a hack or update? i am running ten.o four ubuntu server.

I have installed on a remote server phpmyadmin 3.3.1 and mysql 5.1.46 on a centos 5.4 OS.
Any newly created user with phamyadmin is unable to login both from mysql command line (from localhost) and phpmyadmin (localhost and remotely).
No prob when the user is created with mysql command line (from localhost). All of the users created with phpmyadmin, are not "visible" recognized from the show user command via the mysql command line. The setting I used when I create any user was the same as the ones with the mysql command line creation.
The error message I get when accessing from mysql command line (from localhost) is the following: "Access denied for user ... @localhost (using password: yes)"

i'm in the process of migrating from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6. My main Drupal page won't load. I have been stepping through the index.php Eclipse and XDebug.The error I'm receiving is:"can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'".i think the sock file setting is correct; it matches what the MSQL control panel has.
First question: if my.cnf says the sock file is in /var/run/mysqld, why do I keep getting the error that it can't open /tmp/mysql.sock? How do I tell Drupal to use '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock'?
Second question: the mysql command-line interface (i.e., after i have logged into mysql from the terminal) doesn't mention a port from the listing obtained by entering 's'. is it possible that 3306 is a mistake? (I have tried commenting out the port reference and i still get the error identified at the top of the thread.)
does anyone have any ideas about how to resolve the 'sock' error? Many thanks if you do. Merry Christmas, too.

I been going off old outdate guides and informaion around the internet and nothing is working
I have 2 Servers
Server A running apache, php, phpmyadmin
Sever B running MySQL
Server A has IP of 192.168.1.110
Server B has IP of 192.168.1.120

(This par was confusing to I just re-added the line above instead of searching for it all).
Then I set the MySQL vi /etc/mysql/my.cnf to comment out #bind-address = 127.0.0.1 There is another line that most of the guides asked me to comment out but I cannot find that like: # skip-networking
The Next closest match to that is: skip-external-locking
I will assume that is not it and leave it alone....
I keep getting errors for example: "Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly"
Another error was it canno connect because it is not accepting connections from the IP Address of my webserver..

So the problem is that phpMyAdmin does not want to connect to host name (at remote server) but connects to that same server fine if it's ip address is used. Command line "mysql -h hostname ..." works fine and connects to host name. Mysqladmin also works.

I've disabled SElinux and temporarily disabled Iptables but no luck.
Somehow I feel MySQL is not doing DNS lookup when used by Apache/PHP. So it just understands ip addresses.
I found that on MySQL startup you can disable DNS lookup. [URL]
Not sure if it's disabled and how to enable it at startup. Could not find anything at "System" -> "Administration" -> "Services".

I've setup a CentOS apache web server, and loaded a site onto it. The site previously was functioning under windows xp (before I "stepped in") and wamp. What I did was copy the site in /var/www, reconfigure the httpd.conf (DocumentRoot /var/www/site, etc). Although when I try to open the webpage I get this error: Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:The MySQL adapter "mysql" is not available.

I'm trying to connect to a remote database but can't connect directly (I think due to security reasons). Here's the setup:
Computer A - my computer
Computer B - server, I can SSH to this from computer A
Computer C - server that runs database, I can SSH to this from B but can't from A
Any ideas how I can can connect to C directly from A? I think I need to setup a tunnel or something like that but I can't figure it out.

I am trying to replace my Widows work station with Linux, I am now down to two applications. One is close to being resolved (it's a hardware connector between two pieces of equipment) and the other is replacing Crystal Reports with JasperSoft iReports.
I have been progressively hammering away at this for several months now. And still no progress. All I need to do is connect the stupid report software to my SQLite database.
Now, no I cannot move to another database. This is the solution I have and that's it. I know someone will suggest MySQL or some other db... not in the cards not in this time frame. I have over a year invested in the application/database and have already deployed it for use. And I just don't have the time needed to re-write my application to connect to another database then move all my tables and data over to another database then go through the entire testing cycle again. Okay I think that horse is dead and the position clear.
System Specs:
OS: OpenSuSE 11.0 x86_64
Desktop: KDE 3.5.9 "release 49.1"
CPU: AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core
Drives: 3 SATA

And it shows up in iReport after I point to it... but then I get this error from iReport when I try to connect to my DB.
"Unable to add connection. Cannot establish a connection to using org.sqlite.JDBC (Unable to find a suitable driver)."
I have been all over the web and haven't found any clear instructions or directions on where these drivers are stored, how to properly add a driver or how to connect iReport to SQLite... and according the iReport web site I can...

I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 and now I've installed OpenOffice 3, both in Spanish.I have oracle client installed and can connect to Oracle databases with clients like tora.What I try:
- Open Database and select connect to an existing database.
- Select Oracle JDBC.
- Next
- DatabaseName: I put the sid of the database of oracle. (orcl)
Server URL: The name of the server containing the database. It's resolved by a ping. (database.organization.es)
Port: 1521
- Oracle JDBC Driver:
oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
But I press the test button, I receive an error: JDBC Driver can't be loaded (really, the message is in spanish).

When I compile this code, I get the error: undefined reference to `sqlite3_open' I added sqlite3 package using the command 'apt-get install sqlite3'. Unfortunately the sqlite3.h header file was not installed in /usr/include, so I downloaded the SQLite3 dist., untarred it and copied the sqlite3.h file to /usr/include. I saw on a previous message that I would need to link the library. The only library file in /usr/lib is libsqlite3.so.0, so the command g++ -lsqlite3 still gives me an error.

Trying to get OpenbavoPOS to connect to my remote Postgresql database, but so far i've only been able to connect to the local postgres installation. I _am_ able to access the remote databases with psql. I've read literally dozens of pages, and am pulling my hair out. When i try to open a connection to start querying i get this message:
Cannot Connect to Database Server
Cannot start SSH tunnel manager
1 Check that mysql is running on server 127.0.0.1
2 Check that mysql is running on port 3306 (note: 3306 is the default, but this can be changed)
3 Check the root has rights to connect to 127.0.0.1 from your address (mysql rights define what clients can connect to the server and from which machines)
4 Make sure you are both providing a password if needed and using the correct password for 127.0.0.1 connecting from the host address you're connecting from

I am trying to connect to my mysql database using php but I am getting the error "Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect()".
I checked phpinfo() and there is no reference to MySQL. I believe this means that my install of PHP doesn't support MySQL. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall with a version of PHP with MySQL support? If so how should I do this and how do I get a version of PHP that supports MySQL?
