Software :: How To Edit My Extensions.conf Located On Remote Host
Feb 4, 2011
I intend to configure my extensions.conf and sip.conf but asterisk in configured on a remote host in another city, i have to travel there to configure it. Is there any way to access it using internet instead of vnc and teamviewer. how can i use telnet to access it or how can i ssh the remote host.
I've been scanning the apache2 docs for the past few days and have not come up with an answer my following issue:
In my httpd.conf file, at the very end, I have the line
Include conf/vhosts/vhost_*.conf
However, when I run apache checkconfig or try to start apache, it gives me the error:
httpd: Syntax error on line 993 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/httpd/conf/vhosts/vhost_1.conf: Permission denied
It appears as if the Include line is correct - in terms of it grabbing the first virtual host conf file. However, I'm confused on the permissions. the /etc/httpd folder is owned by root:root, as are the subfolders. As a test, I chown'd the conf/vhost folder combination and all the vhost files to apache:apache to see if that made a difference, and it appeared to make no difference at all. The log files don't contain anything (assumed because apache isn't starting). If I place the contents of the vhosts in a singular vhosts.conf it works - with the permissions set to root:root. I'd like to avoid having to use one vhosts conf for the configuration I'm trying to achieve - as it would make my life a lot easier.
In the gmd3 greeter.conf-defaults file its tells me the themes are located /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme, but wheres that directory actually at, like how I can find it?
Btw, I know I can go back to gdm, but I'd rather understand how to theme this, before. I might just.I'm using compiz, btw, if that makes any difference.
I need to change a game's screen resolution in a couple of .con files, but when I double click on them all I get is success in a little pop up window. Can I move them to my computer, edit them with a text editor, and reinsert them with read only privileges?
I have a directory of a load of files without extensions. I know what the filetype should be, so is there any way of batch renaming the files to append a given extension onto it. i.e. text would be renamed as text.txt?
I am running Ubuntu 9.04 on an Acer Aspire laptop and have broken my display system while trying to use the restricted drivers for the nvidia graphics card.
Basically I downloaded and activated the restricted driver. I rebooted and now ubuntu freezes on startup.
I can get access to the command line but am unable to edit either fstab or xorg.conf because ubuntu has mounted the filesystem in read only mode.
I have read and tried all the options given in this posting but because I cant read or write any of the files I cant seem to affect any change to the system
Trying to get this server to work and abandoned trying to do it with Xubuntu last night and installed Ubuntu server. But now I'm stuck on Samba again as I decided to use the vi editor to edit the smb.conf file and now I can't get out of it.
I am trying to edit my /etc/resolv.conf file while under root. After saving the changes and reboot my computer, file has not changed. I read a thread on chattr and lsattr on this fourm.(see link below) I ran in terminal lsattr /etc/resolv.conf and got the following results:-----------------e- /etc/resolv.confWhat does the dashes and e mean? I thought I would get ----ia------------ /etc/resolv.conf instead, as shown in the link. What am I doing wrong?
I want to edit the file ports.conf to make Apache to listen only to loopback interface as described ... here ,The text extract follows
Quote:
The Listen directive specifies the port, and optionally the IP address, Apache2 should listen on. If the IP address is not specified,Apache2 will listen on all IP addresses assigned to the machine it runs on. The default value for the Listen directive is 80. Change this to 127.0.0.1:80 to cause Apache2 to listen only on your loopback interface so that it will not be available to the Internet, to (for example) 81 to change the port that it listens on, or leave it as is for normal operation. This directive can be found and changed in its own file, /etc/apache2/ports.conf
But by typing
sudo vi /etc/apache2/ports.conf [/CODE} and opening the file I am not able to edit the file After going to the Listen Directive I am not able to type 127.0..0.1, Since what I type does not appear on the screen, the Keyboard is not working. How will I be able to edit the ports.conf and other configuration files
I am trying to edit my grub.conf file. I am logged in as root. It says it is a read only file. I have tried to set permission with chmod 777 and also tried through GUI. Using VI it says it's a read only file. Using nano it will not write either. I have two choices on boot up. I want to automatically go to second automatically. First at the moment is CentOS-4 i386 (2.6.9-55.ELsmp) and second is CentOS-4 i386 (2.6.9-55.EL).
I am trying to install debian as a DC but on reboot I get the "Input not supported " error. I switched to virtual input and login to try to edit the xorg.conf file but created a new file instead because the xorg.conf file is open by the installation. How do I close it so I can edit it and continue. I am afraid to start a new file as I am not sure what is in the ools one.
I have successfully installed fedora 10 and have rpmfusion in my /home/ directory. i don't know how to edit yum.conf to make yum install from this local repo. i tried once. But when i tried to install vlc i got an error saying some lib****** files are missing and missing dependencies.
I'm trying to set up some shares on this pc and every time I try to edit the /etc/exports file I get this error. I get the same error when I try to edit /boot/grub.conf file or any other files. Does not matter what editor I use. I'm running f14.
i have a lenovo g550 with nvidia geforce g 105m i tried to install its driver on fedora 11 and 12 and i have followed the instructions of setup as in fedora sites and forums, the problem is after installation i have 6 equal screens 640*320 and i don't know how to edit xorg.conf
Having a problem in my awstats, I'm a little lost to were to edit the config file to show all IP's and host so far its only showing up my IP and the PC's on my network and nothing else.
I installed debian etch, it runs and does connect to the internet fine through a linksys router...the linksys router is connected to my cable modem...now..
I just registered for a domain name (ex. mydomainname.org) with Verio....this is where I am stuck.
I installed apache 2, a web server, file server (all seem to work) I need to know what files I need to configure to have my machine actually BE that domain name.
Ex. my linksys DHCP IP addresses, the linksys gets an IP from the cable modem...my yquestion is ONCE I register a domain name with verio...how do I configure my end so it "knows" I am that respective domain name...I think I need to configure the following, but knot sure how to do it: resolv.conf, hosts, and interface?
after yesterday's update to kernel 2.6.35.10-72 my grub.conf didn't get updated and ll /boot shows that neither vmlinuz or initramfs exist for that kernel. uname -r though tells me I'm running 2.6.35.10-72.
How can I do that? and on another more reallystic matter how can I generate the missing files so I can manually update grub.conf?
Why does ping see audit.median.hu as 127.0.0.0, and why does host -t a audit.median.hu see it as 193.68.35.149? audit.median.hu is just an example site [hosts ads, etc.]
I just have a caching nameserver on my Fedora PC:
I configured my DNS server addresses in the Network-Manager Applet: 127.0.0.1, 8.8.8.8
Even with Wireshark, I can see it:
So the big question: Why don't the host command or my web browser recognize that I have modified audit.median.hus IP address?
I need to add a user to the sudoers in my vps host and edit a couple of files and I just cannot make sense of visudo, vi or nano. The tutorials I find on the net just take too long to study and they are never complete, can someone explain what I need to do? I am running Debian 506.
I had some trouble with the netinst CD and I had to install lenny with the 6DVDs instead. My internet connection only works after I edit the interfaces and resolv.conf files manually. So my question is: can I do that from the netinst CD before it actually needs the connection to install everything? (otherwise I'll just need to use the DVDs.
What's the fastest and most reliable way of working on files on a remote linux machine with emacs on a windows host machine? I need to be able to easily copy and paste text between emacs frames and use all the keyboard shortcuts, so putty and cygwin are out of the question. I've tried tramp mode but it just hangs when I try to connect.
I have a webGUI in php where users can make certain settings. How can I edit a file on a remote server from my php webserver? Currently I use my FTP client, vsFTPd and a chrooted user in a specific directory where the file resides. I think this is pretty save as long a nobody else uses my FTPclient. How can I make changes to this file on the remote server from within my php-code on my webserver ?? (so that not I need to make the changes but my users can do it from a html-form) I found this but the credentials for the FTP-connection are plain :
<?php $file = fopen ("ftp://loginasswd@server", "w"); if (!$file) { echo "<p>Unable to open remote file for writing. ";
.....
I use https for the webGUI, but I guess this does not mean the connection to the remote server will be encrypted also ? Can I use my FTP-user (has no shell) from within php to edit the file ?
I have a server I can ssh into, and I am also running Ubuntu. How do I edit this remote file using any program I have installed on my local Ubuntu, without copying it to local, editing it, and copying it back?
