View 2 RepliesIs there any way to configure Evolution to use GMail ?
View 2 RepliesI have been trying to configure the mailcheck in gkrellm to check and notify for new mail on my gmail account. I have activated pop of course...
These are the pop info taken from gmail:
Quote:
Server for incoming mail (IMAP) - needs SSL: imap.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993
Server outgoing mail (SMTP) - needs TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use verification)
Use verifiering: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes(some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
I've spent ages trying to get evolution & Gmail to talk to each other. Whenever I press Send/receive it tries then I get 'Error while Scanning folders in "IMAP server imap.gmail.com" '. I've tried changing the ports etc, deleting the account from evolution and redoing it. I've looked thru various forums and walkthroughs. I've checked that the right password is stored in the keyring. I'm sure all my settings are right, but evolution can neither sync with my inbox nor send emails.
I have synced my google contacts and calendar with evolution, however. I use my Gmail on a variety of devices so I don't want to use POP and in any case SMTP isn't working either. I'm running ubuntu 10.04 on an acer 5738 thru a not particularly fast ADSL connection.
I follow the introduction like the web page, want to set up gmail for Evolution. But When I try to send or receive a mail,it always failed.Check the debug logs, showing:Could not connect to pop serverCould not connect to smtp serverCould anyone know what I should check ,in this machine I can connect internet no problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Debian for about 2 years now, I have decided to use my email through Evolution (actually both my live and Gmail accounts). Right now my problem lies with Gmail so I will just mention that...
Evolution simply does not accept my gmail password when I log in. I have gone through the whole "Evolution Setup assistance" many times, and whenever the setup is done, and I proceed to open up the program and actually log in to my email> I enter my password and click "ok", and then the same login screen simply flashes and asks me to enter my password again! This is the entire problem. I cannot go beyond the login screen, and evolution simply asks me to enter my password again, and again, while never logging me in. And yes, the password is correct as I use the very same one to log into gmail's web interface several times a day. Imap is also enabled in my gmail account.
I have used Gmail's imap and smtp configuration information from [URL]..... and it simply does not work, even though I put all the information into Evolution Correctly.
I've seen a bunch of other posts on this topic but they haven't solved my problem. I just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04. Love it so far. Except, I can't figure out how to setup my gmail account in Evolution so that I can see the emails on the server or download them locally. I had it working before both in 8.04 LTS and a flash drive install of UNR 9.10. I really can't figure out why it is so difficult this time.Gmail settings are/were already on IMAP - checked while logged in through browser. In Evolution, I've tried changing the account name, user name (for receiving mail), etc. and different combos of same settings. The receiving mail settings I'm using for IMAP authentication are password and save password. Security is set to SSL.Evolution tries to access the server but never asks for a password. Likely, because something is wrong with my settings. I just don't know what.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have several Gmail accounts. On one of my Ubuntu-running computers (Hardy) Evolution remembers the passwords. Which is a good thing, as I can't remember one of the passwords.
When I'm out and about with my netbook, I like to check my email. But I don't use Evolution on the netbook; I access the Gmail accounts via the web. And because I can't remember the password for one account, I can't check it.
Obviously, on my Hardy desktop, Evolution/Ubuntu remembers the password - so it must be stored on the computer, right? How do I get Ubuntu to tell me the password?
I want to forward mail from the evolution mail program (2.22.3.1) to my gmail account.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 9.10, I could setup gmail inbox in evolution.. but i'm constantly getting error for outbox.I'm getting the following error always ( i tried changing ssl to tsl, id name from 'id' to 'id@gmai.com'.. etc but none worked.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn general, sending to people with gmail accounts fails although it works for others. Here's the error message:Evolution ErrorError while Sending message.RCPT TO <someuser@gmail.com>failed:<someuser@gmail.com> No such user hereI have Evolution Sending Email set to Server Type: SMTP.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI use Evolution with my Ubuntu lucid lynx. My email server is optonline.net. I can't send to from my evolution to yahoo mail or gmail. If can send from optonline.net web mail.I am wondering whetherI have a wrong setting or is it something with evolution itself.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have configured Evolution to use my Gmail account. I am able to read my Gmail, but I have not been able to send email. I have found instructions to do this from several sources, which include the Gmail website and Ubuntu help at HTML Code: [URL]. The instructions from all sources have been consistent:
Instructions for Sending(smtp) Mail from Gmail:
1. Server: smtp.gmail.com
Note: Some ISPs block port 25, if you are having a problem sending mail, substitute smtp.gmail.com:587 for the server information above.
2. Server requires authentication: Checked
3. Security: TLS encryption
4. Authentication: Plain or Login
5. Username: johndoe@gmail.com
I have also tried using port 587 and 465 as alternates. When I try to send an email, there appears to be two stages: it successfully completes the first stage that refers to POP, but gets stuck on the second stage that refers to SMTP.
I'm on a fresh Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 install and I'm trying to configure Evolution to grab my email from Gmail using IMAP.
For receiving mail my server is set to imap.gmail.com:993 and my user name is ___@gmail.com
I'm using SSL and the authentication type is "Password"
If I click the "Check for supported types button, the "Please wait. Querying server for a list of supported authentication mechanisms." window pops up, but it never finishes.
When I try to sync my mail, evolution doesn't ask for my password, and the send and receive mail window displays my account as "Scanning folders in "IMAP server imap.gmail.com" indefinitely.
Running Evolution from the terminal doesn't seem to print any IMAP related errors only
Code:
** (evolution:5565): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed
POP works fine, but that isn't really an option.
I use evolution 2.26.1 on my jaunty machine. I have a couple of gmail accounts, and use pop3 to have that mail sent to evolution on my computer. All was fine until a few days ago. Then I noticed that I was no longer getting mail from my freecycle account sent to my machine. I went to the gmail web interface and saw that freecycle mail is still being sent to me. But gmail isn't passing it along to my evolution. The odd thing is, other mail from that gmail account *is* reaching evolution okay.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up my gmail account with Evolution. I am trying to set up a mail client where -
1) All the mails are stored locally, so that I can work offline. When I reconnect, the client (Evolution) syncs with the server - sends emails and updates any changes.
2) All the labels/folder system to be respected and retained.
After struggling with various sites that argued Pop3 and IMAP (numerous blogs and google searches), I came across this conclusion (pls correct them if they are wrong)-
1) Pop3 allows mails to be stored locally, but will not break them up into folders.
2) IMAP will allow the folder system, but will only store the headers of mail on the local server, and the content will be downloaded as per request.
1) Will Pop3 access allow syncing between the local version and the server version? For instance, a mail read in Evolution should be marked as read when I sign into the web-interface as well.(I can always create a filter/rule that replicates gmail filters)
2) Will IMAP allow me to store all mail locally (isn't this exactly what IMAP is not!)? The combination of imap-gmail-evolution was not so successful when I tried it out - too slow!
PS: I would prefer Evolution over Thunderbird so that I can integrate the Calendar. However, if ThunderBird is the easiest solution, then it's fine too...
Is there any way to have Fedora use gmail as the default system email instead of thunderbird or evolution?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the 11.4 Gnome Distribution.everything is setup except my email sending.I have never been able to setup evolution correctly with gmail.I have followed the gmail settings of setting the smtp server to be smtp. gmail. com:465 and folowed the instructions here Evolution/FAQ - GNOME Live!to setup smtp.gmail.com with no port change.if there is no port specified the sending message window doesn't report an error it just hangs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'd like to configure Evolution (or Thunderbird) to delete Gmail messages. When I select messages and hit "Delete", the messages go to my local trash and they loose their Inbox label in Gmail. I would like that in Gmail, they loose their Inbox label and go to [Gmail]/Trash so that they'll be deleted after a month.
Could I configure the "delete" key of my keyboard to move msg to [Gmail]/Trash ? Could I configure another key to move msg to [Gmail]/Trash ?
What other solution ? Because moving to the trash is not convenient, it takes a lot of time without a key shortcut.

My evolution mail is not able to integrate my gmail chat and facebook chat.It shows this error-

Evolution works fine for receiving mail, but I cant send anything. When i hit "send/receive" itll receive but ask for smtp password every single time. My understanding is that the password is your email password, but it wont accept it.

Mutt can only read email's from my gmail account, but no emails can be send through gmail to the Internet. I need some guide for Mutt , don't know how to configure it , for sending emails via my gmail account. I tried many muttrc conf files from the Internet and even tried to configure my own muttrc file , but still no luck. My windows xp box ( Outlook Express ) is configured and works with gmail account , but I would like to explore the power of Linux.
I have a problem sending emails in the command line. I have introduced this command:
sendEmail -f my.account@gmail.com -t myself@domain.tld

-o tls=yes
-xu usernameonly -xp mypasswd
But then I received this message:
sendEmail[13230]: ERROR => Connection attempt to smtp.gmail.com:25 failed: IO::Socket::INET: connect: Connection timed out
