I untar the pack, and launch the application calling a script, from within the untarred folder,
Code:
This launches a gui which allows me to setup a case, which needs some setup file, tipically some *.in and a mesh file, tipically some *.msh.
Other mode of executuion consists of calling the setup file as argument to Impact.sh script ( CLI execution mode, for g33k5 )
My problem is : I have packed the whole stuff into a Slackware .tgz, that places it in /usr/local/Impact, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin,

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to troubleshoot an application that is generating several segfaults with an error 14, but the application is not crashing. The program continues to run. I would assume I can connect to a running process to debug it, but I'm not sure what to gather. The program has several background processes associated with it so I'm sure I'll need to attach to the actual internal process. Does anyone have any experience in this to offer some insight?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to get the predefined application icon to open the same file types.
for instance: *.avi, *.mp3 to have the VLC icon
and other application to have the icon of their default application.
So far I only found tips to install single icons or to add icon packs. :S
and is there any way to when you install an application make it default for such file types ?
I'm playing with NFS.
If I type
mount workstation.localdomain:/NFS /home/AndrewJames/Desktop/NFSonworkstation
I get two folders. The original one that looks like a regular folder and one that looks like a hard disk. Both work but I only want one or the other, what have I done wrong?
Question Two.
I read that some people use NFS to run applications from.
So I decided to play with NFS and set up /usr/bin to export.
From a client I then mounted /usr/bin.
The server machine has virtualbox on and the client doesn't.
On the server if I go into /usr/bin and click Virtualbox, virtualbox opens but if I do this from the client it doesn't. The
Why not? Or what do I have to do to be able to use an application through NFS.

Just installing F14. I am using the gpk-application (PackageKit gnome-packagekit) but when I need to install a package which needs lot of dependences, the window which tells which packages and dependences are going to be installed is too long that it does not fit in the screen, so the cancel-apply buttons are out of the view then it is impossible to click them.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn openSuse.. the practical way to backup with a GUI application.
a) Scenario: GRUB crashes or is modified/deleted.. (Obviously not due to ME... I'm and expert even though I just installed OpenSuse 11.4.... about 10 seconds ago..... if you know what I mean).
b) Scenario: Installed/Updated SOMETHING and everything went weird.. (can't boot, nothing runs, KDE/GNOME is dead, end up at a command prompt but I don't know any commands!!!)
Now I had an excellent OpenSuse running..... WHAT do I download to backup, WHAT do I back up so I can do a FRESH Operating System install (SuSe) and restore the rest (or most of it).
SO:

2: What Folders and Files/Directories do you backup to get back running ASAP?

View 2 Replies View Relatedyou're playing a game like Supertuxcart or Open Arena and the screen freezes which hints at something that has crashed.Well this happened this weekend when my mate's kids were playing those games on my laptop running Ubuntu 9.10.
All I could think of to resolve the issue was to hit the Power Button and restart my laptop. I am assuming that this is not exactly a good thing to do but at the time I could not think of anything else to do seeing as the screen froze and I could not use the mouse or pressing any buttons.Anybody got any ideas on how to un crash an application with out hitting the power button and forcing a re-boot?
i'm new to ubuntu, and also new to linux.
so basically i have many many questions to ask.
so i describe myself as a new human being in this linux world.
today i found out when i download an application, it comes in "tar.gz" format,
so i searched for solution, and the only answer i get is to go to the package manager and download the package. well... that is not a relevant answer.
then i went to try out the firefox, so i found out that the firefox was out-of-date, it was only v3.5 , i went to help> and where is the check for update option, i was like huh!? where is that button? so i googled it and found out the update website, then i downloaded the file, before i open it, i saw "tar.gz" o.o!!??
nevermind, i plug in my pendrive to play some music, then the movie player came out and gave me an error message that i have to download some files to play this mp3 format. ok, i guess a 600mb operating installer doesn't comes with everything, and i clicked download.
dang! error! could not locate the file ..
ok, i switched back to windows, went to videos to search for solution on how to install tar.gz files. the video showed me, first you extract the file to anywhere, then you open the file, then you *blah blah blah* the terminal, type this command xyzabc^#*
so, my main question is how to install an application downloaded from a website?
don't tell me it's package manager because there are many things i can't download there.
I am looking for an app that behaves like CPU-Z for windows, because I am desperately wanting to overclock my CPU. However, I don't want to do it without a CPU monitor that monitors heat/clockspeed/voltages/etc.
